New York Giants' safety Kenny Phillips has a sprained MCL, the team announced via Twitter. His status will be "week-to-week."
That is fairly vague news about the safety, injured early in the first quarter Sunday night trying to make a tackle on Philadelphia Eagles' running back LeSean McCoy.
Stevie Brown stepped in for Phillips and played well. Tyler Sash is also scheduled to be reinstated this week following his four-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
"I was prepared," said Brown, a third-year pro who signed with the Giants in April. "I prepare like I'm playing every single game. Unfortunately K.P. went down, but I know the game keeps going. So I had to step in there and do my job."
It sounds like Brown's job with the Giants is going to get more important. Until Sunday Phillips had been the healthiest and most consistent member of a constantly shuffling secondary.
