Giants Vs. Falcons, NFC Wild-Card Open Thread

Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants, Jan 8, 2012 1:00 PM EST

NEW YORK GIANTS (9-7)
ATLANTA FALCONS (10-6)
Giants_icon_medium
VS. Falcons_icon_medium

Date: Jan. 8, 2012
Location:

MetLife Stadium,
East Rutherford, N.J.

Time: 1 p.m. EST
Line: Giants by xx
TV: NBC
Radio: WFAN 660 AM. National Radio on Westwood One

BY THE NUMBERS: Eli Manning has passed for at least 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns in seven consecutive seasons. He is the fifth
quarterback in NFL history to do so. The other four quarterbacks to accomplish the feat are Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Dan Marino and Drew Brees. ... Jason Pierre-Paul had 16.5 sacks this season and was voted All-Pro. ... Victor Cruz had a Giants record 1,536 receiving yards this season (third in the NFL). Cruz's 82 catches tied for the second-highest total in team history. He also had a franchise-record seven 100-yard receiving games this season.

Well, here it is New York Giants fans. The team's first appearance in the playoffs since 2008. Seems like forever, doesn't it? Especially since fans were getting used to winning.

The Atlanta Falcons (10-6) invade East Rutherford today trying to send the Giants into the offseason. What will happen? Your guess is as good as mine. Enjoy the game and use this for your open thread.

Game the f… on!

That is big time injury for the falcons defense.

by Giantstep on Jan 8, 2012 12:07 PM EST reply actions

Well that slightly helps

balance out the injury factor. I can’t sit here and watch any more pre-game, off to pick up my brother and some drinks for the game!

Victor Cruz is the 2011 Ahmad Bradshaw. He giveth, and he taketh away. Thankfully he is giving much more now.

My x factors for the Falcons today would be Jacquizz Rodgers and Harry Douglas matched up by Prince.

If Prince can lock him down and the LB’s can get a handle on Rogers that eliminates a sneaky part of the ATL Offense.

by lboogie25 on Jan 8, 2012 12:11 PM EST reply actions

haven’t seen prince in much except on special teams.

by Giantstep on Jan 8, 2012 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

and i think people forget about MM.i dont think he was healthy last week.

he could make a big difference hopefully and along with jake. itll all come down to if our o-line can give eli protection.

If he does not drop the td passes

by Giantstep on Jan 8, 2012 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

Well let's do this

No turnovers, Shut down the bowling ball and play an Aggressive attacking style D we got a good shot of going to Breenbay

Running Game is the Key

Not necessarily for this game, but if we have any further aspirations.

I firmly believe our running game COULD be better, if not for:

1) Coughlins unwillingness to settle the OL combinations. Our line simply does not have the reps as a unit yet.

2) Gilbride would rather throw. Its that simple. If Gilbride would committ more to the run, our running game would be more productive as the guys gain confidence.

My thing is, if we have any further aspirations of beating any of the real juggernauts in our division like the Saints, Pack or Niners – running and ball possession is going to have a play a big role.

Eli and co ARE capable of flat out out-scoring the Falcons….. but I don’t think they can do that to those other teams. We haven’t been good running ball, we better hurry up and LEARN to be good. I

I think if they give Jacobs the touches, he is capable of getting the job done, with Bradshaw in relief. The question is, will the coaching staff give this team the opportunity.

GO BIG BLUE!!!

I think it's more KG likes to run in too predictable a pattern ...

and almost exclusively between the Tackles.

I just wish he’d keep the D guessing more, run or pass.

The Falcons blog seems pretty worried that their CB Grimes is out.
This is a huge blow to the secondary, which suddenly has its work cut out for it. The Falcons need big games from the entire depth chart, and they desperately need a pass rush.

Crushing.

“Laying on”?

but if Eli leads Manningham, that’s a catch and maybe a TD.

All things considered, good first half.

Terrible job by the sidelines, not getting in Eli’s ear on that last drive. There was too much confusion, someone needs to step up, TC or KG, and take control. Just stupid.

nygmen123: Again, without Vick or Maclin, or Cromartie. Injuries don't seem to bother them. They just bring in guys to make plays
nygmen123: Stopped the Pats on the first series. Planted Brady twice. Guess what gang? This team isn't quitting. Or making excuses.
Simms-McC: Yeah -- I wish the Giants were more like the Eagles
nygmen123: In intensity and fight? Right now, so do I.
