Those Oilers were the first AFC team I ever liked. First team other then the Giants, actually. I carried it all the way through to the Titans with McNair, George, and Kearse.
I couldn’t care less about anyone other than the Giants now.

see now I think that's total garbage
the brunt of that hit was shoulder to shoulder, IMO that’s not a dirty head hit, that’s a defender trying to bust up a completion.

guys like Ronnie Lott
would be broke from fines these days. Really makes Marino’s pass record that much more remarkable. The Marks brothers got the crap beat out of them trying to make receptions in ’84-5
agreed
its amazing guys like Brian Dawkins who’ve played with both rules. & Dawk used to blast dudes hard. I havent really watched many Bronco games so I cant tell if he’s still doing it. but in all liklihood, he’s not. cause hes not allowed. must be frustrating for guys like that.
I think thats why our safeties havent been as good as they could be. theyre so afraid of getting the penalty, they get beat instead.

nice........
I’m more of a beer dude. IPAs and Stouts mostly. As far as hard liquor goes…only gin and vodka.
I’ve gotten a chance to try Blue Label, and I miraculously was able to get that down, so I’d take that…lol.
But I often dream of that perfect blend of tonic, tanqueray and a lime. I also enjoy Bloody Marys.
I can’t do rum or tequila after back to back “bad” experiences…I quit those lol.

I drink mostly vodka and dark rum for hard stuff, tho I do like a nice scotch, but too expensive. I’ll drink wine from time to time too, but mostly beer, dark, malty, and strong.
why quit gin?

Speaking of Dallas...
Did anyone catch Sapp and Irvin talking about how the Giants will be facing a ‘real’ QB tomorrow and Matt Ryan isn’t a joke like Sanchez or Romo?
I’m thinking…Isn’t Irvin the biggest Romo apologist in the universe? Now that he wants to hate on the Giants he has resorted to throwing Romo under a bus. Romo is so awesome that he could play a whole season of football from under the biggest bus on the planet.

3 fumbles in that game negated…. 3!!! The Colston fumble before was just about the same as the Holmes fumble too, and I still maintain Kerle’s elbow hit Ross’s foot and if not, there was certainly not enough evidence to overturn the original fumble call….. not that I’m still bitter either, mind you.
Refs are trying to give this game to new orleans, just like Atlanta at New Orleans week 16
Lot of holding and PI not being called vs. Saints.
If the Lions are going to win this game, they’ve got to kick ass, because if it’s close, the refs are going to give it to the Aints.

The interwebs say this.... so it must be true
Falcons at Giants (Sunday, 1 pm)
Referee Carl Cheffers heads to the Meadowlands with his regular season crew, with a couple of substitutions.
R — #12 Carl Cheffers (12th year, 4th as referee)
U — #96 Undrey Wash (12th year)
HL — #110 Phil McKinnely (9th year)*
LJ — #100 Tom Symonette (8th year)
FJ — #80 Greg Gautreaux (10th year)*
SJ — #125 Laird Hayes (17th year)
BJ — #30 Todd Prukop (3rd year)
Alternates — Scott Dawson (#70, U from Alberto Riverón’s crew), Mark Steinkerchner (#84, LJ from Terry McAuley’s crew)
*Substitutions: McKinnely substitutes from Jeff Triplette’s crew for Kent Payne; Gautreaux substitutes from Walt Coleman’s crew for Jimmy Buchanan. Buchannan is ineligible to work a conference championship or Super Bowl, as he is in his third season.
Cheffers’ crew did not have a postseason assignment last year; he last officiated a postseason game in the divisional playoff round in 2009, which was his first year of eligibility as a crew chief.
This crew worked the Week 2 game between the Eagles and Falcons.

Whistle was blown right away what crazy is the ball was in a saints players grasp n he just left it on the floor for a lion to grab. The nfl has to figure how to clean this part of the game up ashame there was no return nor if the whistle didnt blow the saints player prob would have actually attempted to grab the ball.

Dungy said
They’ll keep Peyton and draft Luck. . . I think his head is up his ass becasue unless Peyton does a major resconstruction of his contranct that would be about $50 million comminted to the QB position, not good when it comes to managing the cap
well doesn't the new CBA
prevent those enormous rookie contracts? I thought even the #1 overall was much more affordable now….
Kinda but he's a #1 overall QB
so its more affordable but not much more affordable, if say Indy drafted a QB at #10 or so it would be a lot more managable but the other thing is Peyton just signed a huge contract so a lot of that money would be going to him. Either way it just seems unfeasable to keep the two on the roster unless Peyton does a huge resctructuring of his deal. It’s going to be interesting. If he goes I really hope he goes to an AFC team other than the freaking Jets. GO to Miami or something. I don’t want him in the NFC.
Jets are another obvious landing spot too
Rex would go apeshit for that kind of a one up on us.
If the 9ers got him, they’d be contenders for the next 3-4 years. Ditto Seattle I’d say. It’s going to be a hell of a decision and result.
I doubt he'd go to the Jets
Rex is a bafoon he’d would want a good ofensive coach there or a more stable enviornment. . . and I don’t think he’d go to NYC where Eli is, I don’t think he’d want to upstage his little brother. . . I sure Woody Johnson would love for that to happen so he’d throw ever last dollar at Peyton but I don’t thik he’d do it.
SF is cheap and wont pay but would make the most sense. Good weather, good team, good young coach who knows the QB position well.
yeah, but if Peyton wants rings
the Jets are a nice opportunity and maybe he thinks being close to Eli will be good since they’ll see each other a lot and they’d only meet up in the Super Bowl. Plus, good D, good OLine, need another offensive playmaker or two, but it’s gotta be appealing to him
I could also see Oak, Minny, Mia, Buff offering good situations or making a big play too
14-10
Not what I expected at half-time. Detroit got all of the breaks and 2 turn overs, but did take advantage. Saints are lucky they are only down by 4.

Eli’s been doing that for years . . . chucking it up to Plax, Nicks, Cruz. . . he’ll his signature play of his carreer is hanging it up to Tyree in the SB.
Yeah in his earlier years
I feel like he’s starting to thread a lot more throws this season and has been pretty on the money with his deep balls.
It really is tough though to judge comparable QBs in different systems with different weapons. Who knows how good some QBs make their receivers and how good some receivers make their QBs.

Everyones all wet about the offensive teams in these playoffs but they’re all sloppy teams overall. SF is like you said sound. They don’t make mistakes and are very very physical. SF won’t be the cakewalk that all of these announcers are making it out to be. The contrast in styles should be interesting next week. I’m rooting for SF, both coaches are brutal to root for, both are jerks.

Delmas also played really dumb.
You need a LOT of discipline to have a ghost of a chance against that NO offense. The Lions are freaking opposite of discipline.

No doubt
Stafford is good, but Megatron makes his numbers so good. He throws into triple coverage all the time – Triple – and CJ comes down with it. Eli would have 50 tds with this freek!
Anyone see the sport science about megatron? 4.35 40, 6’5, 7 ft wing span, 45 inch verical, 11.7 ft broad jump. They surmised that his coverage area is.comperable to a garage!

I mean, the dude has had the likes of Orlovosky and Kitna throwing him the ball for most of his career.
When he has a competent QB, look at what happens. Moss had Culpepper (when he was ballin’) and Brady. He sucked in Oakland. So there’s that…

You cant blitz brees because someone will be open and hell get it out so quickly
And if your front 4 isnt good enough you wont get pressure from a 4 man rush… we have a superb front 4, but last time we faced them we didnt pressure Brees once. If we face the Saints again we best hope Tuck is 100% and Osi comes up big cause he was totally ineffective a few weeks ago.

Amazing how a Defense described as a "Tampa 2" gets toasted for long TD's,
10 yard check downs at will, 20 yard seam routes etc.
This is why PF’s approach sucks. Coverage doesn’t win, pressure does.
the sb antion lions blog say
They hate their scheme and question how a defense can play so bad despite the talent. And they are talking about how their defensive line can’t do everything by themselves. Sounds familiar somehow

half the rush yards were off broken tackles
something we have also seen from our boys, but that’s nothing scheme can fix
Let's hope SF can at least stop the run on NO.
We can’t go back to that dome!
Brees
He s the one qb I dont want to face. He gets rid of the ball so fast, plus this team can run the heck out of the ball. Add in the fact that we’ll need a lb on sproles, and I.dont like it at all.
by Giant Ken on Jan 7, 2012 11:09 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Blitzing is tougj.vs saints
They run 4-5 receiver set, and have Sproles. There is so much speed on offense, so if you blitz your looking at a lot of 1 on 1 match ups that can be exploited. Most teams dont have this many guys, with this much speed. That’s the problem.

Tampa two
Was much more effective before teams started to employ these fast, athletic tight.ends. They can hold the safeties in the middle, or burn them with big plays. This limits the help that the safeties can provide. You throw in abig time run game to freeze the backers, and you get big holes everywhere and limited help.
by Giant Ken on Jan 7, 2012 11:14 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I think the overall quality of QB's in accuracy is better these days and love to carve up zones.
10 years ago guys like McNabb were called elite and accurate, LOL.
They changed the rules
tampa 2 used to mean Kenny Phillips lighting guys up all day, now you can only hit the bar after the game So guys like onSaints might make a play over the middle then they’d watch the rest from the trainers room
If they make it any easier to pass, we will see a big increase in cheap shots on the QB. It will be the only way to slow an offense down

I don't think there is a single team
that can stop the Saints offense. Too many damn weapons and a record setting QB. We should focus on pure offense in the draft and in free agency and just pray that Fewell either gets a HC gig or gets his sh*t together. Too many high picks for inconsistent results.

Unfortunately most pro leagues think all fans want is scoring (like when they abolished the traveling rule in the NBA in the 70’s as long as you’re going in for the dunk).

The difference tonight was the running game. Saints ran all over them, opened everything up. Lions could not run the ball.
Sound familiar? I really thought that, after taking Prince, we should have traded back up into the end of the second round and taken Ingram. Very doable with a 2 and 3 or 2 and 4. Ingram is JUST the kind of back we needed. I get taking Prince for “value”, but I really thought JR would make a move and trade back in to get Ingram. He’s unique. His burst is amazing, he can catch, and he can run with power. Just what we needed.
