An interesting stat, the kind I look for
From ESPN stats and analysis
No defense allowed more touchdowns with at least three wide receivers on the field than the Patriots during the regular season and playoffs combined. Meanwhile, no team has run more plays, completed more passes and thrown more touchdowns with at least three wide receivers on the field than the Giants this postseason.
Why do I look for this kind of intel? It's hard to break those kinds of patterns. If you're getting killed by 3 wide all season, there is a reason. Its probably personnel. But then when you layer on a team that loves 3 WR on a team that struggles, it's a mating that should pay dividends. It's especially good because it forces the Pats to make decisions. Forces them to pull a LB,and with Eli's ability to diagnose the blitz, it eliminates CB blitzing for the most part. But toss in the possibility of Edelman on Cruz, you can max protect, and still get a very favorable matchup.

I also find that stat to be very interesting!
I can’t wait until Sunday.
nywins42 needs a new screen name - "nywins46" sounds great!
Just ordered FatHeads for all available Giants. Now I have something to aim at when punching holes in my wall.

Very profound stat
Nice find. First thing that is interesting is that the Pats are last, and we are first. Not second to last and fifth or whatever, but DEAD LAST and FIRST.
I keep wondering what BB will come up with to combat the obvious mismatch in personnel. If anyone can formulate a plan that will work it will be him. And yet the great plan may still not be enough.
As Simmsy states above, me likey.

I totally expect BB to have some wrinkles to try and neutralize that
But I’m not certain what he can do with his personnel. If he moves McCourty to CB to avoid the Edelman matchup nightmare, who plays safety? The analysts think he moved McCourty to safety to get some deep help as much as anything else.
So we go three wide and McCourty isn’t a S, you might see some big big plays. Mainly because all 3 of those WRs can catch a 7 yd out and take it to the house. Heck Hakeem run straight thru the Falcons D. I just don’t see how they camouflage it without heavy pressure, but that absolutely plays into an Eli strength. He can make any throw, so now you have guys one broken tackle away from going big yardage.
Eli is our King!
he will invent a new defense

The Giants used 3-WR sets 48% of the time during the regular season
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
The Patriots are the only defence not to allow over 27 points in any game this year
Thats not the Pats team, thats just the defence (the Bills got 34 or something against them, but that was with a pick 6)
Eli Manning is the opposite of Lebron James. If you ask Lebron for change for a dollar, he only gives you 75c because he doesnt have a fourth quarter. When Eli asks for change, he only takes one quarter because thats all he's gonna need.

I tend to see us matching up very well with NE
But the overall teams are pretty comparable. Both teams will want to establish an OK running game to open up a dangerous passing game. We have more big play guys, they have more underneath threats.
To me this situation is a big key. On paper, the Pats don’t match up to a 3 WR set like we present. But paper doesn’t matter. Some are inclined to want the big plays that this mismatch presents. I’ll be happy if it simply helps them move the chains. Good things happen when you are winning the field position battle. Good things happen when you convert on 3rd downs.
Eli is our King!
And we win on third down.
I forget the stat, but the Giants on offense are deadly on third down with some ridiculously high % rate. And on defense, teams in the playoffs are 11 for 29 against us. About 30%. That is pretty close to dominating.
- third down defense in the playoffs. Why should I expect any less once again? Because the Pats Oline is pretty damn good. If they hold up, and the Giants have to rush 5 or 6 to get pressure, limiting guys to clog up the underneath stuff than Brady may have alot of success.

The improved play on 3rd downs has been the key
PF has stubbornly stuck to using extra guys on the pass rush only to throw teams off. But it’s working now, it’s the best approach against Brady. Hes one of the great open route throwers ever.
Eli is our King!
If we are getting to Brady with four
on a consistant basis, then this game could look alot like week 9 where our defense clogs up the passing lanes with those short routes that the Pats love to throw, and we could see a frustrated Brady who is throwing incompletions and or a pick or two.
The Pats Oline will have alot to say about who wins.

My number one rule of predicting winners
Look to the trenches, look to matchups in the trenches, and the big picture. I don’t see either team with a big edge there. Ergo a tight fought contest. I think our 3 WR could tilt the balance, helping us get some key first downs.
Eli is our King!
I agree without question.
The way I have always explained it is: Which teams fat guys beat up the other teams fat guys will determine which teams little guys get to run around and play with the ball enough to win. :-)
Add in turnovers and costly penalties. I know we know all this stuff, we’re just passing the time shooting the breeze until Sunday, right?
