I find the idea of there being a revenge factor in this Super Bowl to be one of the most interesting story lines. Both of these teams have changed a lot in the last 4 years. If you watch the Super Bowl 42, like I did a few days ago, you cannot help being struck by all the difference in the players from the current teams. Just from my observations, without in depth research, I would say the Giants alone have changed over half their starting line up. I am sure the backups have seen an even more drastic of a change. Even the coaching staffs have seen change, the Giants are on their 2nd DC since SB42 and the Patriots lost their OC and now he is back again in some role. Of course in this game it comes down to the head coaches and quarterbacks.
From what I have read and hear, supposedly Brady and Belichick have been steaming about the SB loss for 4 years and they are looking for revenge. Just looking at the rosters and comparing the talent I think the Giants have an edge over the Patriots. However, this revenge factor kind of scares me. It can give the Patriots and edge that they could use going into this game. If the players that were on the last SB team are pissed off and come out playing hard they might be able to use that anger to beat the Giants.
I can see the revenge idea going two different ways, if it is even a factor.
1. The Patriots are pissed. They still think about the lost perfect season. They come out mad and use that anger to pound the Giants heads in. This is of course a bad thing for us Giants fans and is what scares me about this game.
2. The Patriots are pissed. They still think about the lost perfect season. They come out mad and are overhyped causing them to make stupid mistakes. This further infuriates them, and the mistakes compound themselves and the Giants turn those mistakes into points winning the game fairly easily. This idea I like.
Is revenge even a factor in this game? Is it something to worry about?
