The Peyton Manning Effect

Part of keeping my mind off of the incredible span between now and the Giants' next game, is in focusing on the other things going on around the league.

How is Peyton Manning relevant to the Giants?

With the reports indicating more and more that he will not be playing for the Colts next season, I look around the league and find that the team that, more than anyone else, is a Peyton Manning away from Super Bowl contention is the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins are solid defensively, something that couldn't be said very often about the Colts. They ranked 13th in total yards despite their offense coughing the ball up 35 times (3rd highest in the league).

We'll never see Peyton Manning as a Jet (thankfully). But with Shanahan over in Washington, I think this could be a legitimate possibility.

The upside? We'll get a Manning Bowl twice a year.

Of course, the downside would be a much more competitive division opponent.

With any luck, he stays in the AFC.

Why?

He’d only stay for like a a few more years. Then the Skins would look for another QB again

That's what they would likely need to develop a replacement

I don’t think they have anybody on their roster right now that they could hope to carry the team going forward. Perfect situation for a young quarterback would be to sit behind a future Hall of Famer for 2-3 years, wouldn’t it?

Dont see Peyton coming to the same division or same town as Eli.

This is not the 2007 team.
2011 NYG will have their own legacy.

Thats ok because we have the better Manning

Eli Manning is the opposite of Lebron James. If you ask Lebron for change for a dollar, he only gives you 75c because he doesnt have a fourth quarter. When Eli asks for change, he only takes one quarter because thats all he's gonna need.

Irsay would have to be crazy to risk trading Manning to an AFC team.

Oh wait, he is batsh%& crazy.

How is Peyton Manning relevent to the Giants? Tom Brady will be using his locker before the game in Indy. And he’ll be watching. That’s about it.

Brady will also be crying in front of Peyton's locker after the game.

nywins42 needs a new screen name - "nywins46" sounds great!

Just ordered FatHeads for all available Giants. Now I have something to aim at when punching holes in my wall.

He can play anywhere he wants

they can release him in march

and not owe him anything going forward

by DukBudr on Jan 25, 2012 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

You actually think they'll release him,

and not trade him? They’ve already paid a lot in guaranteed cash to him. He’s not walking without the Colts getting something.

It is what it is

by Middlesex on Jan 26, 2012 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

He has a $28M roster bonus due I think 3/31

I’m not a Dr nor do I play one on TV but I think his medical history will make that bonus moot. So they’ll be forced to release him. Or he could redo the contract and give up a lot of $$. Most logical thing is Colts release him.

He'll also help Eli in recognizing tells in the Pats defense

He’s probably as good as most offensive coordinators at breaking down film

Peyton Is Relevant

As long as he keeps watching game film for us and giving advance scouting to Little Bro.

If Peyton discovers even one little extra wrinkle to exploit that neither Eli or the coaches see, it could have a big effect.

Realistically his career is over

broken neck, three surgeries, please keep him off a football field as a player.
Great article in the NY Times about his support for little bro.

Max i was thinking Payton may end up in the NFC east

My money is on Dallas. First Romo has proven over and over he can’t play in big games and that’s not gonna get J jones Boys back to the SB.second j jones has proven over the last few years he will pay what ever it takes to get back. Third Payton would love to have all those weapons in Dallas.

Peyton in Dallas

I have a hard time seeing him in Eli’s backyard, but you know if the money’s right it could happen. But walking away from Romo would be silly to me.

Did something no one saw coming?

Thing working against him

Would be the cap. I think Dallas had a hard time just getting the cap in line for this season. If we had an uncapped year though, I would completely agree.
