My bad on that
1990 game was in Frisco. It’s fixed.

Nice recap, Ed
Looking back, ‘81-’82 was a strange time for the franchise…Scott Brunner stepped up and made big plays after Simms went down and led us to a playoff victory, and things were looking promising with a rookie name Lawrence Taylor stepping up and making big plays and over the field.
The future was bright, but Simms blew out his knee in the preseason in ’82 and then the players strike ensued. The playoffs were extended to a 16-team (8 per conference) tournament-style format, but Big Blue finished 4-5, missed the dance, and Ray Perkins bolted for the Crimson Tide.
Thankfully, George Young hired Perkins’ DC to be head coach, and the rest, as they say, is history…

People forget that Parcells really struggled his first year as head coach
By his own admission he took too much advice and was very indecisive. He ended up playing Brunner over Simms for a while, and then seemingly all at once found himself. Re-tooled the team into a physical kick your face in outfit.

excellent point
Many a coach these days would get the hook after his first season if he finished 3-12-1. Seems like the pressure to win now is paramount these days.
Sports are full with such examples…crass of me to bring Philly into the discussion, I know, but Mike Schmidt bat less than .200 in his first season with the Phils, and he had over 350+ ABs. Nowadays, guys like Parcells and Schmidt would be long gone if they started that poorly.

May have been the third best thing George Young did
1) Draft the GOAT
2) Draft Prince Valiant
3) Stick with the Tuna

Man he's small
5-9, but a solid 190, bet he’s good at breakin tackles. Seems like something the Big Boss Man likes.

Ok but then of can 2nd guess every wt listed
Its easier to just assume they are all reasonablely close

lol
fair enough, like how AB somehow grew 2 inches and 25 lbs this offseason?
I generally take all these #s as complete crap. The fat men aren’t as light as they say and the little guys pad their #s like crazy, and it’s probably for their own safety.
The weight numbers on the bigger guys are notoriously wrong, even though they actually weigh in at those numbers
The weights are taken at the official weigh in day at training camp. Virtually every player has a weigh in number, if they come in over weight they get fined or lose weigh in bonus. So what happens is guys drop 10-20-30 lbs in the 7-14 days before weigh in. Then they start eating again and blow up.
I doubt JJ is too light, the Giants are notorious for wanting guys that are stronger, of course, JR has broken certain patterns.

SBNation Bay Area...figured I'd save you guys the time and post the joke of an article right here.
While most of the preview material has revolved around the San Francisco 49ers’ secondary against the New York Giants’ receivers, the biggest thing to watch will be the New York defense against the San Francisco offense. That’s because so much has changed in that regard since the first meeting. San Francisco’s offense will look much different, and that’s certainly a good thing.
Aside from the fact that Alex Smith is infinitely more confident this go-round, the 49ers don’t have Braylon Edwards messing things up in the end zone. Maybe that sounds harsh, but it’s absolutely true. He was a liability on the field and there was multiple points in which he and Alex were out of sync, costing the 49ers in the red zone.
Plus, Frank Gore will be a factor this time around. He left the first meeting with zero yards off of six carries, and probably shouldn’t have played in the first place. Everyone knew he wasn’t 100 percent going into that game, but now Gore is as healthy as he can possibly be and he’s eyeing the goal he’s had little chance of sniffing his entire career: a chance to play in the Super Bowl.
Don’t buy into the hype when it comes to the New York defense. It has looked great the last couple of outings, but overall, they’ve shown they can be beat. They’re ranked 19th in the league in regards to stopping the run, lending credibility to the fact that Gore’s health will be a factor in this one. They also were ranked 27th in the NFL in total defense, helped along by a poor pass defense that ranked among the bottom four in the NFL.
One thing they can do is get to the quarterback. But with a healthy Gore, this could lead to them biting on run plays and giving up big plays to Gore, who is always looking to take advantage of the smallest opportunity to break one big. Alex also should be looking to get the ball out early. Really, it’s hard to see how the Giants’ defense will really shut down the 49ers at this point.

their offense looks much different, but so does our defense.
and if he doesn’t want to buy into that “hype”, why should I buy into the “hype” that the Niners offense is any different, although from watching them last week and plenty of times since the Giants faced them…their offense is absolutely no different.

Whoever said that will be like this Sunday evening

This is not the 2007 team.
2011 NYG will have their own legacy.
All I know is 2 equally great offenses played last week
one scored 20 points, 264 passing yards, 388 total
one scored 32 points, 432 passing, 478 total.
Now, which team has the shitty defense?
Who posted that?
Sounds like some of the guys that post on BBV
Eli is our King!
The last sentence is unfortunate...
But all the points he makes, at least about us, are valid. Alex Smith is way more confident, and if Gore has 0 yards again I’ll be shocked. And he’s right – Braylon Edwards was actually hurting us by being on the field.

Inconsistent
Nicks was dealing with a hamstring injury and Manningham was dealing with a knee injury. Maybe a healthy Manningham dives for that deep ball to tie the game. Boley left the last game and the 49ers scored right after his departure. He’s healthy. While Gore left the game early, Bradhsaw didn’t play at all. This is a very different Giants team coming to play tomorrow.
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
I agree with that
But as I said, the points he makes while talking about the Niners are legitimate.

Ok but you have to admit that his points about he Giants indicate either
1) he hasn’t really watched the Giants last two games
Or
2) he just wants to believe that the Niners will win and the post was written conclusion first
Eli is our King!
It isn't hard to see at all actually
This defense is going to step up and make big plays all game long. Shut out the Falcons who have a better offense than the 49ers and we gave up 2 FGs to the best offense in the league along with 2 gift wrapped TDs from the refs. 49ers won’t admit it but they know scoring on this defense will be tough as nails.
Die hard Giants fan since wide Right! I was 5...
I'm down wit JPP
Yea you know me

Niners
Exactly our d is going up a first ballot hofer in alex smith. They have a number one offense for a reason i mean 5 picks all year compared to eli who has never won a big game who throws 5 picks a half. And the giants finally win a playoff game and them and there fans think there gonna lose by only 10 pts haa smith and co will take the niners to the promise land and itll be 41-0 at half. Lets get it right

so funny
These 49er fans i twll ya they said the Giants d was overrated the last few weeks. i cant even tell you how funny this is we have basically shut Dow the numer 1,11,12, and 21 ranked offenses mean while the 49ers have the #18th offense. i will take my chances with our D

yea you can do that
but it is interesting why that is the default setting for the site, no?
Giants Mets, JPP is a MONSTER
It definitely is odd.
Honestly, I just figured out that you could change your time zone. Don’t know why it’s set on Pacific. Gotta have something to do with whoever controls “SBNation” being out west.

Never seen another guy anything remotely like him
You remember how he used to chase down RBs? I liked that almost as much as the pass rush, especially in the sweeps away from him. Man I miss watching him play.

Perry Fewell to ....
Sorry to change the topic. Can’t sleep waiting for the game to come up in 13 hrs..
I hear Mr. HiFi himself may be a candidate for Tampa’s HC job?
The BIG BLUE Wrecking Crew > Fixed Games !!
I hope not
As much as I’ve been a critic of his this year, I’d rather hope he learned his personnel’s strengths and have the continuity of a third year with the same DC. Not sure there is an assistant ready to move up and an outside new guy might put us back.
But let’s get back to the big game! I want to see Jacobs lay some lumber early and let that SF D know they are in for a loong day!
Go Giants!
12 hours to kick off
Travel day yesterday, and im awake wayyy too early. So psyched for this game! SF has no idea how good our D is and Smith’s last 4 minutes are no reflection of what is about to happen!
Eli is going to be a beast! Hakeem, Cruz and MM will be rumning free, I can feel it!

RIP Joepa
He influenced a lot of lives in a very positive way. He should have done more with the Sandusky horror, but I think today we should all mourn a guy who’s heart was in the right place for the kids in the program 99% of the time.
Go Giants!
It's funny how the roles of the teams have switched
Now the Giants are the pass minded team, while the 49ers are the great defense, run the ball team.
