I know this is always easier to say after the fact

but the Packers were a deeply, deeply flawed 15-1 team, if there ever was such a thing.

They played a TON of close games this year, beat up on a relatively weak schedule, had a poor running game, and a swiss cheese defense.

I’m not surprised the Giants won at all. I AM surprised that they kicked the living shit out of the Packers.

This is a sig.

I'm surprised they kicked the shit out of them too

winning is one thing but they bullied them, I mean if not for two garbage officail calls thats a 37-6 ball game.

by Landeta on Jan 15, 2012 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

Really

The defense hasn’t given up a TD yet this post season, and opponents have only scored 8, and that’s two of the top offenses in the entire league.

This isn’t 2007. This smells of ’86.

by rich316 on Jan 15, 2012 10:48 PM EST up reply actions

When you're 15-1, that's relatively easy

because every game (except the one) is not only one more where you add points to the differential, but one fewer where you LOSE points on it.

But they blew out the Broncos, Rams, Vikings, and Raiders. Yawn.

I think the fact that the NFL Network is ripping the refs is telling… I might be reading too much into things, but I think source is important.

it really should be 37-6, no TD allowed by the Defense…
but whatever…

To play devils advocate (cause I've already posted 10 times how the ref sucked)

If the rule is that it only takes one guy on the field to call the runner down by contact, you’re asking a middle aged man to reverse it based on replay in 60 seconds. I bet they claim he didn’t get the best angle in time.Logically he should take into account that most of the guys on the field thought it was a fumble in the first place, but the replay rules don’t allow that.

The roughing call was a pure sympathy/mercy call. He was 30 yards away and he figured GB was down 17 and he just wanted to make sure the golden boy made it through the game in one piece.

Blue is the color of melancholy and honesty
Green is the color of inexperience, envy and nausea.

by roguetrader on Jan 15, 2012 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

But, we need an explanation. If he had the same video everyone else had, how did he not overturn (everyone else said it was a fumble — even Aikman called it a fumble and we all know how he feels about the GMen)

by BigBlueSJUFan on Jan 15, 2012 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

The real problem

the call should NOT have been overturned on the field. Obviously, no evidence that it should have been called down because such evidence DID NOT exist. Defer to the call made in real time…and then, from there, let the challenge rules kick in for the PACKERS to challenge if they want. They shifted the burden to the Giants, which is horseshit…if you’re going to play a live ball with no whistle, and have guys running around, THAT is the call on the field. The moment you decide not to blow whistles, and risk players getting injured for that play, you’ve made the field ruling. Don’t overturn it unless there’s no way to challenge it. There was a way to challenge it, and the Packers should have been the ones forced to do it.

This is a sig.

Exactly, but they had already made GB use a challenge

on a real bad call on the kick return. If they put it on McCarthy to challenge again he might not because he’d be done for the game if he got it wrong.

I bet that was in his head too. Even football has make up calls.

Honestly

I doubt a referee was thinking that far ahead.

And to be fair with the kick return fumble, at least there was a cluster of bodies making it hard to see.

This was one on one, no obstruction.

Interestingly enough

Goodell brought up the idea of having some full time refs. If the Giants lost this game, there’s no doubt they wouldn’t have them, if anything as for face saving.

What I’d really like is that they adopt a replay system similar to hockey, where they have a guy away from the field, who’s only job is to look at the play in question and rule one way or another

i wish the ref's could get fined like $100 dollars per blown call (i based low amount because i dunno how much money they make)

Or the league can allot the team some more salary cap room per bad blown call like that fumble.

Congrats on a great win!

I have mixed feelings about this. I love that the game comes to SF, but I really thought before tonights game that the Giants were the more complete team and would be the more difficult challange.

BOTH teams are playing now than they were in week 10. This could very well be another EPIC post season game between SF and NY! Whichever team wins, I think has a great chance of going all the way.

…somebody has to carry on the proud tradition of an owner fucking up his team by making the personnel decisions. And Jerry’s the guy to do it.

You’ve probably heard this one but ………

I was watching TV and there was this show about a guy who spent a billion dollars on his place and then filled it with crap. I thought it was Hoarders, but it turned out to be a Cowwboys game.

The two secret MVPs of this game:

Jacquian Williams and Prince Amukamara. The coverage all day was simply amazing, and the only way that could have happened is if those guys were playing the games of their lives. This is just the kind of huge rookie contributions that the giants got in 2007.

Go Giants!

by costanza! on Jan 15, 2012 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

let me underline this

for the plays when Ross was out and Prince was on the outside, Rodgers was very clearly looking to exploit that matchup, and he threw elsewhere.

very, very good on Prince stepping up.

Now everyone will say Eli is in Bradys class. F*ck me

by AJ_in_VA on Jan 15, 2012 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

Ross was a little scary at times, but mostly played well

If Osi hadn’t stripped the ball from Rogers on his first sack, that was going to a wide open Jennings who ran right by Ross. That was probably the play of the game, actually. If Osi is a second late, all of a sudden it’s 17-20 and momentum going the Packers way.

Go Giants!

he was excellent, particularly on the jennings endzone drop

Yeah, the pass hit jennings, but rolle made it an incredibly difficult catch to make. Amazing placement by Rogers in the only possible place that he could have caught it, but the coverage made it too difficult.

I remember one Driver catch, don’t remember when it was, and J-Will was right on top of him and looked like he almost stripped the ball after the catch when Driver was still in the air. That was what he was doing all day.

Go Giants!

The amazing thing was that they handed off to Bradshaw just after the Pack called a timeout, and did it again after the timeout. Can’t believe the Pack coaches didn’t tell their guys that the giants would probably run.

Absolutely atrocious D by the Pack

Right as Eli threw it I thought I thought, “oh fun a Hail Mary”

Then when it was coming down in the endzone I though “Holy sh*t there’s like TWO green jersey’s and 4 white, we might actually ca—- HOLY SHIT HE CAUGHT IT.!!!!!”

It’s not that I don’t like him, I just think he could be a lot better than he is. Tomlin was kind of right about him. I can’t verify, but it seems as though he’s starting to believe the hype. That interview before the KC game…uggh.
But seriously, i’m glad we have him, I just wish he’d go after balls that weren’t dropped directly in his hands, and maybe come back toward Ben and try to make something happen when the play breaks down, rather than just standing there.

Trust me, I thought about it, but they made the right call, it just didn’t work out. Sushi sucks balls. I’d rather have that chick from a MI high school that can kick 40 yarders. She may have a weak like like Sushi, but at least she’s accurate

IMO

Boley was the D player of the game. If he and JWill do what they did today, we can contain Vernon. If CC, Anvil, and Rocky B can contain Gore, we can take their O out.

I only wish Boley could have chucked the ball into the crowd

The thing about the fumble in the first quarter that really bothered me

wasn’t so much that they blew the call, whatever I can deal with that as atrocious as it was. It was the fact that they blatantly “overruled” the original ruling on the field to make it so the Giants had to challenge. No doubt in my mind that if the Packers hadn’t just lost a challenge they would have let the call on the field ride and made the Packers throw the red flag. It was like the ref’s huddled and were like “Oh crap, we can’t let the Packers be out of challenges this early in the game.”

It just reeked so bad of collusion to help the Packers and we know absolutely nothing will be done about it. And don’t even get me started on the hit called on Osi. Ridiculous rampant double standard as to what qualifies as a late it or illegal hands to the face when it pertains to Eli vs Rodgers.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Tom Coughlin is the master of the divisional round upset

1996 his rag tag second year expansion Jaguars shock the hell out of the #1 seed Broncos at Mile High. Those Bronco teams would go on to win back to back SBs and if not for TC’s squad it might of been 3

2007 knocked off the 13-3 Dallas Cowboys in Big D after lossing twice to them in the regular season

2011 knocked off the 15-1 defending SB champs at Lambeau. Beat up on the best QB in the game who had the greatest season ever for a QB and maybe the best ofensive season ever.

Not bad, he’s the master of the divisional round upset.

Make sure if it is a field goal

Every eligible receiver reports to the ref at least three times. Maybe runs out onto the field with a sign “I AM AN ELIGIBLE RECEIVER. I CAN CATCH THE BALL IF THE SNAP IS BOTCHED. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TACKLE ME WHILE THE BALL IS IN THE AIR. THAT IS CALLED PASS INTERFERENCE.”

To be fair, the roughing penalty came on 3rd down.

the pack could have easily converted on 4th, and then gotten the last TD. It was a bad call, but it wasn’t challenged, and that stuff just happens. Thats what makes the blown fumble even worse, that they looked at it in slow-mo and didn’t get it right.

I think the fact that Peyton wasn’t playing this year had a profound impact on Eli this year. Especially after the whole ‘Elite’ conversation started. This is terrible!

People might actually pick the Giants to win! THEN WE MUST CERTAINLY LOSE.

Srsly though, I’m a little worried about the Giants losing their ‘underdog’ mentality.

this game will be interesting

I expect it to be very low scoring, the forecast is for a week of rain. The field will be a mess. I think we can shut down the niners, but we probably wont be able to run on them and the pass game will be affected by the elements. I think it’s going to come down to who doesn’t make mistakes again.

I feel like I can call you Eli because you and me are so much alike. I would love to meet you some day. It would be great to have a catch. I know I can’t throw as fast as you, but I think you would be impressed with my speed. I love your hair. You run fast. Do you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have not been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did, and I hope you write back this time and we get to be good friends. I am sure our relationship would be a game winning touchdown.

Dont get me wrong, JPP has made so many huge plays, but when Boley went down we saw the effect it had on the D. he’s the heart and brain of the defense, and when he’s not out there they aren’t the same. Nobody expected him to be this good when he signed here.

I wonder if offenses are paying him more attention?

At least we know that other guys can get there. Its so great that Boley has become a threat to get sacks, you need that other guy who can be a dangerous blitzer.

Go Giants!

As it stands

we are the ONLY team in the playoffs to have paired a dominant d-line with an awesome passing attack. And with the rules how they are, is clearly the best way to win these days.

I love It. They have zero clue
every game is challenging
but come on, no way the Giants are as good as the Saints were. The Saints had some serious momentum coming into SF.

Giants played underachieving and overrated Falcons team and a horrible Green Bay Defense. Big difference between the Saints and them

by Giantstep on Jan 16, 2012 2:54 AM EST reply actions

O, come on.

As if the clue is in oodles around here either. Both fan-bases are enjoying a good win.

We all really know it will be a grown-ass men’s game next week. Pretty boys are out. And its a pick-em. I would not bet money on it.

by Mindless on Jan 16, 2012 3:30 AM EST up reply actions

saints had an awful defense as well

I would be shocked if San Fran had anywhere near the same success they did on offense this week.

Go Giants!
