What's up all my die hard Giants fans out there. If you are like me you are plastered in front of your high definition flat screen watching the NFL playoff games right now. As I am sitting here watching the 49ers/NO game, I can't say enough about what I am seeing out of this 49ers defense. Win or lose, I have to tip my hat to how fundamentally sound these players are on the defensive side of the ball. The one important thing that stands out to me is the fact that these guys always happen to be in position to make plays. As I am writing this, Tony Siragusa has just repeated my thoughts.... These guys KNOW HOW TO TACKLE. The only missed tackle that I've witnessed this whole game resulted in a Saints TD. Whatever those guys are doing, I hope to God that the Giants and their whole staff are taking notes.
The one thing that I have noticed about the Giants D is that we are seriously lacking in this area. I often watch our defense as they are on the field and I cringe at how poorly some of our defenders tackle. I am also perplexed at how when a catch is made, our defenders aren't really in a good enough position to get a pick or make a good tackle. After this last game against Atlanta I was very pleased at how all of this changed. Moving forward, I would like to see a whole lot more of that against GB. In the playoffs, the little things are what win ball games with every team being extremely talented, the most fundamentally sound team always wins. I am happy for the 49ers as they have just defeated the Saints, to prove my point further. The most fundamentally sound team ALWAYS wins. At this point, the regular season means nada.
I haven't been this proud of our defense in a long time, but I hope Radio takes notes on how this defense NEEDS to be in position to make plays on the football or be in position to make a tackle AS SOON AS THE BALL IS CAUGHT, and not a second less. I also witnessed how the 49ers clogged up the middle of the field to take away the short passing game from Brees, which is also one of Aaron Rodgers's strengths. I know that our LBs aren't as talented as Frisco's, but it doesn't matter. What does matter is this.... FUNDAMENTALS. And this holds true on both sides of the ball. CATCH THE BALL when Eli happens to put make it hit BOTH OF YOUR HANDS. PROTECT THE FOOTBALL, which is something that has been dramatically improved after continuous games last season having that 'blatant disregard for the football'. This being said, the last thing I'd like to add to this is.... LET'S SHRED SOME CHEESE!!!
