What's up with Herzlich?

He has had this high ankle sprain for a couple of weeks now

by Kirt Morose on Jan 13, 2012 2:37 PM EST reply actions

Five or six weeks

He hasn’t played since New Orleans, I think. It’s got to be a very bad injury.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 13, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

Kind of a blessing in disguise.

Not that you want anyone hurt, but that’s when they had to bring Chase back. Hopefully, Herz will be ready for next week’s game.

To warm the bench?

At this point they'll just go with Jones + Paysinger

Unless somebody else gets hurt. Otherwise somebody will need to be a healthy scratch.

He’d probably be better off with a clean break.

Ironically we are in better shape than many other teams in the playoffs with injuries at this point. Would love to have Tryon or TT for sure but otherwise this is a strong team going to Greenbay.

It's actually been a very good regular season for serious injuries

We didn’t put anyone on IR from September 10th to December 1st. After a terrible camp the most important guy we lost all year was Beatty. In 2007 we lost Shockey, Kiwi and Derrick Ward.

We had a ton of guys miss games but they’re all back.

I expect more from you, rorsch

Obviously there’s a risk, but I’m not advocating keeping him in as the blitz pickup on 3rd and long, I don’t care if it’s just for ST, you can’t teach what he has and you can’t stop it if he gets a crease. Risk vs. reward.

Besides, you happy watching Will F’in Blackmon crap punt returns all over the place? He’s just as much a TO liability, but he’s a vet, so it’s okay… grrrrr

the worst part for me

what the fact that we have a fumble overturned AGAINST us, the previous week, versus the Jests, when Kerle’s elbow hit the ground (or perhaps Ross’ foot, the replay was inconclusive, but I digress) and it was called a fumble originally then given back to gangrene

by TNYFBG on Jan 13, 2012 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

thats just one of about 5-6 examples

of how we’ve been screwed by replay this year. think about Ballards TD vs GB or Jenning’s “non”-TD. TC is 3 of 9 on challenges this year & we havent had one go our way in almost 10 weeks. granted a few of them were stupid attempts, but its just a pattern of how bad the officiating has been. & That doesnt even include the 2 awful calls in Denver & NO. Of the 6 holding calls made ALL of last weekend, 4 of them were called on the Giants.

Ware never carries the ball so how is he keeping AB and BJ fresh? Whatever they do with Ware, D. Scott can do just as good if not better IMO ( especially that damn flanker screen ).

false Ware is good for 5 or 6 carries a game (productive ones at that)

And not a bad blacker .

is more a product of the improved blocking than his actual skills. everyone’s been running well recently. He’s definitely mr. reliable but we all know Ware’s skillset is limited. He’s not stronger than BJ, he’s not shiftier than AB, & he’s absolutely not faster than Scott. He just doesnt bring anything special to the table.

in the playoffs you want reliable and low turnover risk

it’s sort of analogous to “take the points”

Better to take 4 touches, 15 yards then to gamble a fumble against a 10% chance of a big-play TD.

especially when ur in that tweener yardage just outside of FG range or when u absolutely need to keep a drive alive. & i completely agree, be conservative 90% of the time. a powerful back like turner with a head of steam is gonna get more momentum than a slow qb behind a guard snapping for the 1st time all year. & when they failed the first one, u have to give ur RB a shot at the 2nd. they waited till the game was almost over before giving it to their best player

You put an untested rook out there, Eli might check out of a good play, cause he’s nervous the guy won’t get it done. I wish we broke in young guys faster, but it’s the playoffs, and it is what it is.

A bad ankle sprain is worse than a broken ankle..Takes a long time to heal..

I'm not an orthopedist BUT

I had a horrible high ankle sprain

When I talked to the Dr, there is no ankle bone to break, the ankle is a joint, so when they say broken ankle I think it means instead of stretched ligaments (which I had) but also torn ligaments ( also had those).

If Herz has torn ligaments in his ankle no way he plays this season, also he high ankle sprain is also code for a lisfranc injury.

It’s already a wrap… might as well not show up tomorrow.

It took about 10 days for the swelling to go done

Then. 12 weeks in a cast.

My orthos first question:
Are you a serious athlete? Cause then they do surgery.

So When Stray had that Lisfranc problem I was thrilled he could return from it

Hopefully it's just a run of the mill high ankle sprain

And he’ll be fine, but your first statement is correct. If its a high sprain, its going to take 6 weeks minimum

Aso, do you really think he’s pushing Chase for playing time. I’ve never seen Blackburn better. Might as well let him heal.

Funny..when I built this house..

I built a Movie/Game room upstairs..It’s fully equipped..60 inch TV, Surround Sound (I have that in every room)..It seats 18 people comfortably..Normally the kids just use it..But during football season I go in there and watch every game multiple times..and during playoff weeks..I break out my Giants History collection and watch them..That’s what gets me psyched to the max…

Given your handle..I assume your Scottish..You'll be happy to know that I have a fully stocked

Bar upstairs…I hung a 32 inch TV in there..again with surround sound..It’s my personal Sports pub..Loaded with a ton of sports memoribilia…It directly off the game/movie room..So you can sit at the bar and watch the game also..Off the bar is a porch..with speakers..So you can go out there, sit and relax and look out at the canal, listen to the game..watch the boats..and the wildlife..I built a 35 foot dock with a Tiki Bar out there..I still have to run electric to it and cable..but I plan on having a TV out there as well..and also a bar..When I retired I went from flying 2000+ MPH in an F-16..to slow-motion..hahaha

God damn it

Joe Namath picked the Falcons to win last week for the oddest reasons. Now he is picking the Giants to win Sunday… I want no love from any jet, don’t pick them!

And another thing, it seems because the national media is calling this game the trendy upset so a few of them are picking the Giants, most of the local NYC sports guys are picking the Packers because “no one is respecting this 15-1 team” and “the week 13 game between these two teams does not matter”… Ok… whatever.

That is scary!!..

The media seems split on this game…I was hoping to fly under the radar of the Tebow Magic attention..NFL Network has it 50-50…which is reasonable..but there are alot of people all of a sudden on our bandwagon..Frankly I don’t blame GB if they feel slighted, because in reality our team still has alot to prove..they don’t..we all know who they are and what they’ve achieved..I just don’t want them to be pissed off at us when we show up…haha..If Rex Ryan comes out and picks us, I’m going to shit my pants and puke…

I figured it out why the Giants are the hot pick

not because of how good they could be but because it makes them look smart. Here’s how:

-Point spread starting at 9 and now at 7 makes this easier to pick the underdog.
-ESPN expert picks the Giants to win, Giants win in a close one, expert looks like a genius because thats what he picked.
-ESPN expert picks the Giants, Packers win in a close one, expert still looks good because it was a close game.

Leave it all on the field..When I flew into hostile territory..and came back home finally..people would ask how could you do that..what was it like?..I’d joke at first and tell them I was shitting Twinkies..but then just tell them that it was my job..You think about your family going in, look at your wife and kids picture..and when the shit hits the fan..The only thoughts you have is winning and doing your job..focussed tunnel-vision..with only one objective..Hit your targets..What will be..will be..but you don’t wimp out..You got boots on the ground counting on you..You shoot all you have and fly out..Plenty of time to reflect heading back to the base..

A bit surprised that we r the pick of many

But, we have Eli and a D-Line that would give any coach nightmares. I think we’ll know early if the D-Line will dominate. That’s the game. If not, Eli and the O will need to.be near perfect!

Our defense will be the key to this game..

I still believe that ultimately in the playoffs..Defense gets you the win..Obviously they won’t shut the Rodgers machine down..just minimize the damage..keep him on the sideline at all costs..Our defense from here on in is the most critical key to success..
