b. I hate ... no, detest ... that stupid NFL rule (the worst on the books, the one I'd erase if I could change one thing about the rule book) that makes a 52-yard defensive pass-interference penalty a monstrous game-changer rather than a 15-yard penalty from the line of scrimmage. Yes, Quin interfered with Green, but 52 yards? When Green might not have caught the ball anyway? I beseech you, Competition Committee -- change that this offseason.

Read that too
I think the reason they don’t have those is that it involves the refs using their discretion on whether they should be 15 yarders or spot of the foul penalties.
And then the incessant complaining after a team gets hosed by choosing the wrong one

What they SHOULD change
is the stupid can’t challenge turnovers because of the whistle

I think all PI should become either a 10 or 15 yd penalty
It might increase the number of penalties, but with the rules as they are, teams won’t stop passing. It’s ridiculous the way it gets officiated. Teams and players with reps get the advantage because the refs are only human.
Whistles are sticky, I don’t know what they can do fairly.
The Tuck Rule is an abomination and should be erased. If it isn’t a thrown pass its a fumble. That’s it. No more tuck nothing. The game needs more turnovers, they are incredibly exciting. Again, I think initially it was put in to encourage passing, now it’s unnecessary and makes the game harder to officiate.
I’m also an advocate of clarifying the blocking rules. It seems pretty arbitrary now what is a hold and what isn’t.
It’s already a wrap… might as well not show up tomorrow.

SEPT 25 - Giants 29 - Eagles 16
It's a tough call on the PI rule
On one hand, you don’t want defenders to be able to drag down receivers to prevent them from making catches. On the other, PI is so frequently called now (when I was watching the Giants, say, a decade or so ago, it seemed that PI was called only very rarely) and often on much more borderline plays, and it can be such a game-changer. Maybe there’s a way to make a distinction between a “flagrant” PI (like dragging a guy down) and a non-flagrant version (like bumping a guy), which would get, say, 10 or 15 yards but not be a spot foul. As Willgfass points out, it would be a judgment call (like the old face mask rules), but might be worth it anyway.
