Report: Spags Back To Eagles
Well, you had to know this was coming. That, however, does not make it pleasant news for Giants fans.

Oh well, let's see how Philly manages to screw this up...

I support the Giants like bras support Kim Kardashian's boobs. It can be a struggle, we've had some jiggles, but we're still firm.

Disconcerting
He knows our team fairly well after being a coach and he can transform their defense back into Johnson’s Ds from their playoff runs. I am not happy if this goes down. We could be in for more problems when playing the Eagles.
No he doesnt!
That was years ago.

How many more could we be in for?
What is it 7 of 8 now that we’ve lost to them?

Well its only news when he signs
In the meantime it looks like a Spagnuola defense is forming itself here in ny without him.

Perry was never going to be fired....sorry!
The only way hes not back is if he gets a HC offer….. never lost his players and he never lost the confidence of TC or JR.

true
I was so excited when he first started, expecting big things, b/c he basically did a heck of a job at Buffalo with their shallow talent pool compared to our guys on the D side. But I really did not like what he did mid part of the year, I understood the injuries in the earlier part of the season, what I didn’t like what the overcomplicated schemes he still had in place after all our player losses.
All in all, I like what I’m seeing with this D…and he has my 80% backing of him once again, I am still a little nervous that he might screw up a game plan or in game adjustment, just b/c I haven’t seen him be consistent…
and now that we are in the playoffs, he can’t screw up or we’re done.
Good luck PF…keep it going forward! don’t revert!
JPP, ELI,
sipping drinks in Hawaii
Would just give it up already...
if PF didn’t pull his head out of his ass Christmas eve he would have been fired. Would you take you head out of the sand for five freakin minutes please. BTW, the players started to grumble about the scheme prior to the Jets and he changed it no matter how much you want to deny it in order to save face. Just man up and say I was wrong about the scheme we were running. Nobody will kill you for it, I promise.

Makes sense
I guess their leadership has decided that the Wide 9 is not such a good idea. But isn’t this stop gap? Look at the guys getting HC interviews this year, if he resurrects their D, he’ll be a candidate by 2014.
It’s already a wrap… might as well not show up tomorrow.

Bad newz
Iggles have a beast of a pass rush…..he’s just gonna make it better. Bad newz for the rest of the NFC East; particularly if only one East team makes it thru the turnstile into the playoffs
I see what you did there

Not Happy
There’s skill in that D, and Spags could put it to good use.
I’m not jumping ship or anything, but I’m not dismissing this as no biggie either.
It's no biggie
because there’s nothing we can do about it one way or the other. If I worry about this endlessly does that help the Giants? Conversely if I don’t care and decide to spend my energy on other things because it’s not my team does that hurt the Giants?
"Sometimes you make a mistake and you get hit in the head." - Eli Manning
Not a done deal, and Spags would be working for free
as every PHI $ he earns off-sets part of final year owed on his Rams contract.
Let’s just see how this plays out. Could do TV or just chill waiting for 2013 HC openings. Just don’t play it like Fassel did. Totally screwed his career.
Do what you have to do, Spags
Rest assured that the Giants will do the same.

stunned by this...
…Hue really seemed to have the support of his players, and the entire season was thrown into disarray once Campbell went down. I am surprised they did not give him a do-over next season, but again, this is still Al’s club and bears his managerial imprint whether he is alive or not.

They wont
Lets be fair, objective and honest….. this is our first time in the dance in a few years, we are really in the same space as the cowboys and Eagles but we are the ones getting hot at the right time.
Philly has played very well in the last few weeks and i expect that to continue next year especially with Spags back but we still have the talent, coaching and hunger to beat anyone but i wont pretend like they are a bad team.

It is kind of funny to me how so many on this site love to put them down when they continually beat us. What is it now, 8 out of the last 9, or something like that?
We are in the playoffs. They aren’t. Both teams are talented. They made some bad moves this year, had quite a few stars hurt (Vick, Maclin, Jackson, Cromartie) and a rookie DC who made bad calls. We’ve been hurt too, and have struggled nearly as much. Next year will be a dog fight (no pun intended) and hopefully we come out on top. But let’s face it. Would we rather have Radio making the D calls or Spags? No brainer. It took Radio THIRTEEN weeks to figure out he either sucked or the D couldn’t run his schemes. That is one LONG learning curve there, guys. So I agree with Blue Gates. I don’t like it. I don’t like ANYTHING that strengthens a team that has basically owned us for 3 to 4 years, whether we are in the playoffs this year or not. And while I think we CAN beat them, we’ve done so once in the last 3 to 4. So I get the angst some are feeling. I’d much rather he were back with us. The eggs are beatable, but we are going to have to be healthy and draft very well. One thing is for sure. Next year will sure be interesting.
We may not care about this right now.
But we will later on. Spags is a great defensive coach, and the Eagles D just got better.
The D has been getting better
They were not the same team in the last 8 weeks as they were in the first 8 weeks at all.

that is interesting seein how Spags will have to take less or the Eagles will be willing to pay him top dollar. His contract with Rams still pays him as HC unless he takes another coaching job.
I heard he was gonna take time off…..reassess things. But let’s wait and see if it is true.A lot of times reporters put these things out there because it just makes rational sense(Eagles/Giants def struggling,Spags gets fired makes sense)…..but hold the presses…..Castillo had Eagles playing better D the last 4wks without training camp and mini….So we shall c

Not gonna lie, not thrilled to see this, but hey, the more the merrier. Rumor has it he will be “assistant head coach,” interesting. IF things go badly again, he might be next in line after Reid for the top job.

I think you have it there. I think he's been told the team is his when Reid goes. I think Reid is in it for one more year. Maybe 2, then it goes to Spags.
And I think Spags wants an NFC East team.

For the record, Juan Castillo is a born American. His parents came to the US from Mexico when they were in their teens. But hey, when there’s any opportunity to shoehorn in a totally ignorant and unfunny comment, you gotta grab it.

Ah, predictable "herd mentality" of the weak-minded.
Guy #1 refers to a wide range people and personalities collectively as “racists,” an obviously ignorant comment. Guy #2 points out the idiocy in the comment. Guy #1 likes the same football team as I do. Guy #2 likes a team that I don’t. I’ll think I’ll piggyback off of Guy #1’s ignorance.
That’s the basic formula that led to the rise of antisemitism in Germany under Hitler, the riots between Muslims and Hindus which broke out when India was partitioned, and the genocide which took place in Rwanda in 1994.
And then a second dope chimes in with an equally smart “Hahahahahahahahah!!!!!”
It’s Mensa here today.

Spare us the dramatics, please...
You are trading barbs here with an American diplomat with two ivy league degrees who does not need a history lesson, one who serves the American interest in Armenia and is reminded virtually every day about the consequences of ethnic war and mass killing. Your historical analogies are a ridiculous straw man argument.
The reality is this — a misplaced, horribly racist comment about your DC was posted on your site. This was undoubtedly posted in an emotional fit and is something the poster may even regret, but it was nonetheless posted on your site. And there is no denying this. Furthermore — and most shocking to me — it was permitted to stand with virtually no censure, neither from the community of users nor the site’s administrators. End of story.
I don’t believe the BBV community, none the least the site’s Editor-in-Chief, would tolerate such nonsense. And I am proud of that. Many folks have had qualms with our own DC’s performance this year but never has the dialogue turned racist.
Peace.

If you’re going to classify masses of people as racists based on the comments of one person, you’re the worst diplomat ever.

And yet your site let the comment stand. Real, real classy. The tirade against him was also laced with disgusting profanity. You guys are all class over there.
How about this? Why don’t you troll your own site and commiserate being out of the playoffs instead of paper champions?
by BigBlue9091 on Jan 10, 2012 8:13 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
Lol, "class"
For the record, I don’t read every comment in every front page post, every fanpost, and every fanshot at BGN. It would take a few hours a day to have that level of monitoring. We do check the flagged comments on occasion and moderate as necessary, sometimes after considerable time has passed, because… you know… I have a wife and a real job.
Anyway, I think this is the point at which I’ll separate myself from this dumb conversation. I’m not here to convince a handful of dolts that our community doesn’t hate black people, Puerto Ricans, Jews, Asians, white people, etc. Apologies to the 98% of you that have reasonably functioning minds.

Maybe your precious time would be better spent policing your own site then over here having

Who cares?
They’ll always find a way to blow it in a big spot, they are heavily invested in a QB who can’t stay healthy and overrated DE’s, and they continually misuse their best offensive player.
as long as Reid is at the top, the Eagles don't scare me
He will always find a way to screw things up in big games. He gets talent in there, but can’t use it.
Go Giants!

Jason La Canfora took some liberties with his wording. The report doesn’t really have any teeth… yet.
by JimmyK on Jan 10, 2012 3:21 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
He is going to be their next HC
That’s why he will return, if this is even accurate. One more year for Reid. It’s one thing to be a good coordinator, but making the jump to HC is tough for many. Hell, even Belicheat suffered. Of course I am sure the talent , or lack of, had NOTHING to do with it
This is exactly why I don't think it's happening
You think Andy Reid is looking forward to being told they just hired his replacement? But he can keep the job until he screws up even worse or drops dead on the sideline. Didn’t exactly thrill Parcells with the Jets and tha time it was his idea.
I’m of the opinion that no one likes to be in that position unless the other guy is his kid, and even then its a 50/50 proposition.
I see Spags going to work for one of the other new HCs out there, with the idea that if he builds a good defense, he goes to the top of the list for a shot with a third team, or the Eagles if Reid moves on.
Blue is the color of melancholy and honesty
Green is the color of inexperience, envy and nausea.
Lurie, in so many words, said that Reid is on the hot seat starting now.
If he does not win the division next year he is out. We will have a word to say about that!
Somebody wrote a really great column about this
Lurie came out and said the performance this year was completely unacceptable, but he wasn’t going to make any changes.
Uh Jeff, that’s the definition of “acceptable”. If you don’t do anything about it, you’ve accepted it!
Blue is the color of melancholy and honesty
Green is the color of inexperience, envy and nausea.
Let's be real rather that full of BS bravado
This is not a cure all for the Iggs but it sure helps them and hurts us.
Our team is doing really well right now but, given the past few years, who knows what comes next.
Iggs have talent, just cannot get it together to use. Spags will help.
Only good part will be if he gets promoted, he won’t be DC any longer.
All the Giants should play like Mark Bavaro.
TC, TQ, PF, KG, DD and KMac Must Go!
It is equally worthless when people are always optimistic or always pessimistic. Either way I take their opinion with a pound of salt because I know they only have one setting. I post my own thoughts, not what either side wants to read.

who cares...
Philthy doesn’t have a monster front 4, Spags was great here because he had the players to run schemes other teams couldn’t dream of running
Their front four has played VERY well. Their linebackers stink. They aim to fix that this draft. I sure hope ours continue to improve and we can shore up the Oline.
I don’t relish the thought of Spags coming after our Oline as it stands right now.
Personally I don't care
Spags bombed as a head coach and only succeeded at the Giants because he was running Jim Johnson’s defense. He has yet to prove he has any creativity of his own. Maybe he will go on to be a great coach for the Eagles but so far he hasn’t really proven anything other than he was smart enough to lift his gameplan from a truly great DC.
Attention Giant fans
Just a thought, whenever these Eagle fans come over hear to act like idiots why don’t you just ignore them? You can tell them 2 + 2 =4 and they’ll still insist the answer is 5, you can not have intellegent conversation with them about anythying let alone football. They’re about as rational as Al Queda is, seriously its a waste of time. Think about the amount of time you spend on this blog site, do you really want to spend it talking to some guy from Philly that no matter what happens on the field will insist your team sucks, your QB sucks, and any on field success including Super BOwl wins is attributed to 100% pure luck, while his team only loses becasue of bad luck, field conditions, officiating, and some other NFL conspiricies. I mean the guys who run their blog site are pretty stupid, seriously these guys have issues they take this stuff waaaay to seriosuly just ignore them life is too short to waste any intellegent thought on them.
