2012 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: LaMichael James, RB, Oregon

Let's add another one of the interesting running backs available in the 2012 NFL Draft to our list of 2012 NFL Prospect Profiles. Today we look at Oregon's LaMichael James

James is a smaller back at 5-foot-8, 194 pounds and not the big, between the tackles type back you might think the New York Giants would pursue this offseason. He is, however, one of the large group of second to third-round type running back talents in the 2012 NFL Draft class. So, let's take a closer look

NFL Draft Preview: LaMichael James (via FoxSports)

CBS Sports gives James a second- to third-round grade.

James has fought the "too small" label his entire life ... Comparisons to successful smaller backs like Warrick Dunn and Brian Westbrook are natural, and though possibility a bit of a reach, could lead to James being picked much higher than last year's fifth-round "mighty mite" backs, Jacquizz Rodgers and Dion Lewis.

Pro Football Weekly says:

Built low to the ground and quicker than fast, James is a smallish, instinctive back with natural run skills and a knack for finding daylight. Fits in a zone scheme, though concerns over his durability and character could affect his draft standing.

Wes Bunting of the National Football Post says:

A quick footed, fluid scat back who doesn't break many tackles, but has the ability to make NFL defender miss and accelerate quickly toward daylight. Will be limited inside, but as a 3rd down/special teams type option I think he can be a better NFL runner than Falcons 5th round pick Jacquizz Rodgers because of his ability to make defenders miss consistently.
