Ham vs DJack

Last week Ed asked who's better Nicks or DeSean Jackson.  A strong argument could be made the Mario Manningham is as good as Jackson as a WR. There's no arguing that Jackson is the better PR.

Pro Football Focus did an analysis on deep threat WR.  Passes thrown at least 20 yards downfield. Jackson was 4th in 2010 with 13 receptions of 20 yards or more. Manningham had 12. However, Ham had a higher completion percentage than Djack. 52% vs 44%. Ham was targeted 23 times against 29 for DJack.

DJack edges Ham in yards gained on deep passes 551 for DJack with Ham gaining 484. Ham has the edge of 21 yards per pass attempt vs 19 for DJack. Mario was tied for 3rd with 6 TDs. DJack didn't make the top 9. Only the Top-9 were listed with 4 TDs. Incidentally, NIcks was tied for 9th with 4 TDs.

Last season Jackson had 1056 yards with 47 receptions and 6 TDs. Manning had 60 receptions for 944 yards with 9 TDs. Jackson had a huge edge in average yards per reception 22.5 to 15.7.

You should know

You're an intellegent guy

although you are very biased. Reread the first paragraph.

A strong argument could be made the Mario Manningham is as good as Jackson as a WR.

I didn’t say he was better. I said an argument could be made and off last year it is a strong argument. Didn’t we learn? Learn what? Learn from a biased Eagles fan? I’ve read your blog. It’s as biased as they come. I put very little credence in your posts here or your blog. Your blog is supposed to be about the NFC East. It’s about the Eagles in the NFC east.

And in case you didn’t know, their players walk on (Andre) water(s).

Or soon will.

based on his stats

that his completion percentage is below 50% when he’s the target.

by GMen56-11 on Sep 7, 2011 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Nobody ever mentions

that Manningham has only cracked the starting lineup in any part of his 3 seasons due to injury. This will be his first year as a full time starter. Jackson, and Maclin for that matter, have been starters since day one, haven’t they? Yet Manningham puts up comparable numbers as a #3 receiver? Right now it’s not a real fair comparison. Let’s see the numbers after a full year as a starter (assuming he’s not doubled all year cause the Giants have no credible 3rd option at the moment).

by NYStateofMind on Sep 7, 2011 1:52 AM EDT reply actions

+1

last year was the first season Manningham saw significant action. His stats were comparable to Jackson.

by GMen56-11 on Sep 7, 2011 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Which is why i picked Ham in my fantasy league!

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

by Moshe52792 on Sep 8, 2011 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to mention...

Manningham was a late 3rd round pick. Jackson was picked in middle of 2nd round. Maclin in middle of 1st round. So really, Maclin should be compared to our 1st round pick Nicks, who is definitely better so far, despite not playing a full season yet, and being the #1 guy who sees most of the double-teams. Maclin is the beneficiary of Jacksons double-teams.

by NYStateofMind on Sep 7, 2011 1:58 AM EDT reply actions

And Nicks and Maclin are also comparable.

Nicks

is better than Maclin, more explosive and stronger.

Ill give you guys Nicks over Maclin

but cmon… Right now, straight up you guys would REALLY take desean jackson over manningham? Ham is great, I even drafted him in FF expecting a 8-10td year..

but what desean doe can’t even be measured in stats. EVERY team has to game plan around him and repsect his speed. He opens up EVERYTHING for everyoen else. He’s deadly on end arounds…..and do I even have to mention what he can do in the punt return game?

Again....

reread the first paragraph.

There’s no arguing that Jackson is the better PR.

by GMen56-11 on Sep 7, 2011 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

and there's hardly an argument that Manningham is the better WR.....

Not to mention, he’ going to get all the single coverage where as Jackson is going to get doubled… Nicks is going to get doubled…

JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason

by Joe_D on Sep 8, 2011 9:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Not so sure...

I’m not 100% sure about that. I have no doubt a lot of team will play a cover 2 high, but a true double team on Jackson I doubt. Plus some teams will be walking players into the box to try and keep Vick under control.

by eyerish9299 on Sep 8, 2011 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Regardless...

Jackson is going to get the most attention most of the time, same with Nicks. Teams would be crazy not to

JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason

I would take Jackson over Mario.

3 years ago. If I were picking one player today, I probably would too, but I could really go either way

Nicks Vs Maclin's a good debate, and literally the stats are so identical

that there’s no wrong or right answer, it’s preference…

But Desean vs Ham isn’t even close… Not even on the same level. Desean hurts you in so many ways it’s beyond being a receiver.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.
