New York Giants' Statistical Highlights
Here are some statistical highlights for the New York Giants through the first three games of the 2011 NFL season.
Eli Manning Notes
- Using the traditional quarterback rating system, Manning has a passer rating of 104.3 after three games. That is fifth in the league and well above his career-best 93.1 in 2009.
- Since completing just three-of-11 in the first half against St. Louis Manning is 32-for-45 for 435 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. That is a passer rating of 148.3.
- The Giants are 27-8 in games in which Manning started and did not throw an interception. They are 35-36 when he throws one or more to the guys wearing the wrong jerseys.
More Offensive Notes
- Ahmad Bradshaw's touchdown catch Sunday was the second of his career. Bradshaw has 11 catches through three games, second on the team to Hakeem Nicks' 14 receptions. At this pace Bradshaw will catch 59 passes this season, shattering his career-best of 47 in 2010. The Giants throw some of the ugliest-looking screen passes on the planet, but when they hit one like they did against the Eagles it is a beautiful thing. Any play designed to get Bradshaw into space where he can make tacklers miss is a good thing.
- The Giants are just 15th in the league with an average of 98.7 yards rushing per game. Their average of 3.6 yards per carry is a lowly 20th.
Defensive Notes
- Jason Pierre-Paul has 4.5 quarterback sacks, tied with Jared Allen of Minnesota for second in the league. DeMarcus Ware of Dallas has five.
- Antrel Rolle leads the Giants in tackles with 23. I have torched Rolle for some of the things he has said, but I have to give credit where it's due. The guy has been terrific in run support, and he has accepted moving down into the slot and out of the normal safety position without complaint. Tom Coughlin is right to complement Rolle's work against the run.
- Kenny Phillips is second on the team with 22 tackles. KP has been playing better this season than he did at pretty much any time a season ago.
- Jacquian Williams, the rookie linebacker from South Florida, has 14 tackles already.

Good Stats...so far!
Let’s just keep up the hard work! JWill is insane what a find! The D has a great nucleus of young talented players that should be groomed in the right way! We should be solid for a while.

J-Will Question
I have a question about him. I see him on the field a lot throughout the games, but who is he spelling? What situations does he usually get into the game, and what specific LB position has he been lining up at?
JWill
He has been playing the weak side LB and he has been in on passing plays, due to his quickness.
by oldschoolblue64 on Sep 27, 2011 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions
As long as there is no fullback, he will be on the field
When a full back comes in, then you see Greg Jones
Williams is in our nickle base as both the mike and Wil, him and Boley alternate which is awesome.
Williams is also in a few other sub packages as well.

I will say this tho
Moving Williams to the Mike backer permanently for this year may just happen. I love Greg Jones but if Jaquian shows that he can handle the calls, it may make sense to just let him be a 3 down backer…….
This kid has Wil speed, Mike instincts and Sam strength……. i predict that he takes over inthe middle soon, to no fault of Jones but it just may be our best bet.

Isn't it about the matchups
Without Steven Jackson, Rams were pass happy, Eagles are always pass happy
Let’s see against some other teams

Disagree!
Boley is moving into the middle, he has the Green Dot on his helmet and he’s the one directly behind the DTs. JWill is moving into the WLB spot that Boley usually starts in.
I think it is working for now, but I’m curious to see what would happen when we play a more brusing style team. STL and Eagles were not the “Run it up the Gut” kind of games.
Wait for December and see which 3 LBS are on the field.

Two totally different packages and positions……..Jones simple doesnt play in nickle and Williams doesnt play in base….. seems like they spell eachother but not so.

j will/g jones
compare them to the other LBs in the NFC east, for rookies they are playing exceptional ball. i especially like j will, and i think he will be getting after the QB more now that he is getting comfortable with the schemes. fingers crossed.
SMH....with our d-line, lbzzz, and safeties
just imagine the blitzes scheme’s we could come up with. If we keep jumping out to these leads and stopping the run we will eat qb’s alive. not to mention the offense can then grind the clock wit the run game and feast off play action. and its only week three…this team can be great/

Cruz vs. Manningham
I see a lot of people saying that “obviously” Cruz is better outside and that Manningham needs to go inside. I don’t get it.
The 74-yard TD was on a route from the slot. Also, these are the same people who say that Manningham isn’t smart enough to make the right reads, which is exactly what the slot WR needs to be good at doing.
So which is it? Is Manningham smart enough to make the reads in the slot or is he not? Is Cruz better in the outside or is he not?
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
Cruz vs Manningham
Not really a debate, Manningham has proved his worth over the course of a full season, Cruz had one good game.
He’ll be back this week makin plays.

I have a feeling that the coaches are probably asking the same questions...
And will probably be conducting some experiments during practice in order to answer this question themselves.

I have a feeling
that you are correct sir…
And another feeling that Stokely’s package will continue to get bigger…
And a thought, that maybe they should have a slot package for each WR… (Nicks, Stokely, Cruz, Ham, JJ? even Becks?) You think that would make sense?
Go Big Blue!
Yes, I do. In fact, it makes a LOT of sense.
Not sure about Beckum though; he has not been productive as of late and may not snap out of it to even be considered for such an idea.

of late
the most catches he’s had in a game is 2. He’s done it 6 times. The most receiving yards is 29 all from one reception. In the last 8 games he’s played he has 6 catches for 43 yards.
It goes beyond his performance on the field.
I recall Gilbride getting on him in practice because he didn’t run the proper route. Also, when it was announced that he would play in the Eagles game, TC complimented TB’s ability. When this news reached to Beckum through a reporter, Beckum was astonished. This reaction by Beckum in itself caused me to wonder just how much faith that even Beckum himself has in his ability.

Come on
That’s not accurate. He was astonished that TC actually compliment. It’s obvious that the coaches had been putting him down a lot.
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
I would think that when coaches...
put a player down enough, they will begin to doubt themselves at some point. my interpretation of this could be wrong but then it could be the right, however, I think I’m right.
Also, V. Cruz is giving an intertview on “this week in football” on the YES Network right now.

time to give Becks a lil head nod
On the play where AB ran for 42 yards, Becks made a great seal block to open the hole which AB scampered through. so let’s give him credit for doing something right. i guess there is a small crack of hope there after all.

I LOVE ANTREL
The most talented person in our secondary IMHO, i dont care about the stuff he says, i appluad it, so good to see a Giant have some bite to back up his bark, not to mention everything he says is team oriented and everything he does is team oriented.
People give him flack but dude has been asked to play everything but where they told him he would be playing yet he gives it 100% and gets better each week. He is not a liability in the nickle and he is starting to get better and better, its kind of scary how good Antrel can be on any gien play. He is a beast in deep coverage and we all know what kind of run support he gives.
Now tell me how many teams have a Safety that dynamic?? the answer might be none.

eh..
im not sold on antrel in the deep game yet. i like his run support and think he has tons and tons of potential, but i see KP in the ball hawk role a little more. he SHOULD have had two picks on sunday
I didnt know the deep part of Antrels game was ever in question, I mean thats his claim to fame
and no sir, KP is not better deep, dont be fooled, but either one, i dont have an issue with.

but Antrel has proved it already………. i cant count it until it happens.

Eli' Stats
Just shows that as he goes, so goes the team. He CAN be elite when he remembers to play smart.
by hopeforthefuture3 on Sep 27, 2011 5:45 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Eli had played smart.
Thats why so many incomplete passes to start as well as sacks. He has 2 ints but 1 was bad luck with someone missing a block and the other one just happends sometimes. This past sunday. The only two he threw that were queationable he put in spots his guys could make plays on it. The Nicks pass wony be remembered but that was wicked good. To be off-balance and put the ball where he did.
by cjraymz56 on Sep 27, 2011 5:52 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
rite
and that was all arm, he was being grabbed and couldn’t step into it. Not to mention he just barely missed cruz on another one where he got behind the defense. Eli hasn’t been far off with most of the throws that haven’t connected for him. There’s a few where he just seems to throw it at the guys feet but he could also have three or four more touchdown passes if it weren’t for a few inches.

+100000
Eli IS an ELITE QB if the offensive coordinator utilizes a game plan that helps his strengths. Eli’s strength is working off of the short pass game and working the long pass off of play-action. This ONLY works if WE RUN THE BALL!! As long as we have third and shorts and don’t turn the ball over, we can run with the best of ’em. All the passing on first down needs to be cut to a severe minimum

Along with reveling in gridiron slop, broadcasters can never resist praising a player who suits up in spite of a punctured lung. Tough-guy Tony Romo aside, Monday’s Redskins-Cowboys game—an 18-16 win for Dallas—was also a carnival of ineptitude. Dallas and Washington are both 2-1, and both teams are absolutely terrible.
