New York Giants Roster Cuts: Team Trims To 80 Players

PrintThe New York Giants have announced five roster moves they had to make by 4 p.m. ET on Friday to get their roster down to 80 players. Linebacker Clint Sintim was placed on injured reserve, and four players were waived. They are guard Brant Clouser, wide receiver Todd Watkins, cornerback Darnell Burks and defensive tackle Ibrahim Abdulai.
NFL teams were supposed to cut down 80-man rosters on Tuesday, but the Giants and New York Jets were given five-player exemptions due to Hurricane Irene, which forced them to play two games within 72 hours.
Sintim, a third-year pro, tore the anterior cruciate ligament and patellar tendon in his right knee in Thursday's 18-17 preseason-ending victory over the Patriots in New England.
All NFL teams have to get down to the 53-man roster limit by 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
The Giants face interesting decisions at punter, backup quarterback, third running back, wide receiver, linebacker and cornerback.

I was listening to the game on sirius radio (freaking Pats announcers were horrible, btw). It sounds like the play was on a chop block as well? They described him throwing his helmet in frustration… knowing his situation I figured he knew immediately that he was done. Sucks.

By year’s end, barring injuries, this year’s draftees and UDFA linebackers will have had lot of playing/practice time. If they continue to progress, there will be no need for Giants to take another chance on Sintim,
There might be no chance to take.
Presumably, he won’t be ready to play next year. Tearing the tendon is extremely long and grueling to recover from. Best bet is he can play in 2013, but he’s gonna have to find a team that will take a chance on him. Wish him the best, hope he can come back and it didn’t kill his career before it started.

Cadillac Williams had the same type of injury twice in the regular season and was back the following year each time. He tore the patellar tendon in one knee in 2007 & then the other knee in 2008.

Add another person to the legion of people at ESPN who likes to bash the Giants.
New ESPN NFC East blogger Dan Graziano really has something against Giants fans and/or the team itself. A Giants fan said that he was excited about the young LBs on the team even with the Sintim injury and the Giants seemed to have quality depth. Dan responded “The Giants have no concerns whatsoever and should go 16-0. Why can’t I get it through my thick head????” It became this back and forth where Dan calls Giants fans sensitive and some other stuff.

Giants and JR in particular ignore them almost completely so they are stupid
At times I think there is a racial component. Not outright bigotry, but something more subconscious. Cause no GM gets hammered ahead of time more than JR. It’s like they are hoping to see him fail.

His first year it was Pettitgout, Arrington and the LB
He was golden after the Blow, but still they hated that we won
Next year was the WR Redux
Then it was no MLB last year, and other assorted things
This year it’s the OL and the LB position

no....he was more complete of a DE last year than he

Picking good RBs is one thing Ive done pretty consistently over the years. Its almost a gift. AB2 is good. I think he closes his eyes sometimes, but he’s got skills. Scott is better. & I say that having seen only 13 carries from the guy.

He’s rarely gonna bowl anyone over this season, but he seems to know his position and his assignments. Combine that with the effort and drive and it would suprise me to see him cut.
He’ll gain the NFL strength for next season and really start blowing people up.

What bother's me the most is that all the analyst say they will do better this year because they got Romo coming back...
I watched last season and it was Kitna who started winning games in the second half of the season. Romo was like 1-7 before Boley broke him.

All this Graziano bashing is so immature
The guy is calling it like he sees it. And what he sees is not far from what I, or many other people, people who post on the site, see. This team was hit by a ludicrous injury bug. Jerry Reese and mgmt were more concerned with budget than players. The team cannot seem to fix their STs. And Eli Manning played preseason like a deer in the headlights rookie. I agree with Graziano — there’s a chance none of this matters. But to get on the guy for pointing out that the emperor may not have clothes simply because you like the emperor is childish. I want this team to win. Always do. I root and scream and thrash til I need ricola, but this team does not appear ready to play. Prediction: Many Giants fans will under estimate the Redskins, think those games are gimmes as they map out their projections. Those Giant fans are in for a rude awakening.

Nobody is bashing Graziano for not liking the Giants.
If you read the comments sections of some of the NFCE blog stories, you’ll understand why people are annoyed. Graziano basically called out the Giants fans as whiny and overly sensitive.
He got into an argument with a few fans whose only points were “losing Sintim hurts, but we’re excited about our young linebackers.”
Graziano responded to that with: “Oh yeah I forgot, the Giants have no concerns and will go 16-0.”
His unnecessary sarcasm was what let off most Giants fans. If its okay for him to call out the fanbase, its okay for the fanbase to call out him.
