For the past few months I have been listening to people discuss what is wrong with this team. While, unlike some people, I think it is silly to just give up the season after one bad game, I do acknowledge that there is a problem. The way that I see it there is only one of two options as to what this problem could be.
In the first scenario Reese, as some have claimed, really is a horrible gm. He is terrible in the draft, and even worse in free-agency. If this is the case then I can't understand why we are upset. Basically, in this scenario, Coach Coughlin took a team without any real talent on it, and finished the season last year at 10-6 and literally missed the playoffs by one play. If this is the case, I think we should be jumping for joy that our team is able to overachieve so greatly. I mean come on guys there are a lot of teams out there that would kill to be 10-6, and fighting for a playoff spot. I personally do not think that this is the case.
The second scenario looks something like this, Reese has done a pretty decent job of acquiring talent, and for some reason our guys just can't get on the right page. If this is the case I think you have to point the finger pretty solidly at Coughlin. I like the guy and he was part of our last superbowl but come on. The last few seasons the only thing we have been consistent about is making boneheaded plays and looking ill prepared. This has to point to coaching as the problem. I think of last week when we go out and make Rex Grossman look like a pro bowler and I can't help but think of last year when we let Indianapolis run the ball (yes indy running the ball) down our throats. It's one thing for a single guy to be a poor tackler, but when the entire team comes out and looks like it's a new concept to them (I could throw playing in coverage in here to) , something is horribly wrong.
I think that while Coughlin has been a good coach for us, it's time for a change. I have no hard feelings towards the guy, I certainly don't hate him, but we've got to go in a different direction. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I would like to know what you guys think, and please be gentle this is my first fanpost.
