The brutal nature of the NFL business reared its head this afternoon as the New York Giants waived/injured cornerback Bruce Johnson, who suffered a season-ending ruptured Achilles Tendon during Thursday evening's practice at the Timex Performance Center.
In his place the Giants added cornerback Darnell Burks, a rookie free agent from Fort Valley State in Georgia.
"Very sorry and very sad about Bruce," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "Bruce had (injuries) two (years) in a row, the ACL knee and now the Achilles. We were all stunned by it because there was no reason why it should have happened. He was just backpedaling. He was just doing something of that nature and all of a sudden this occurs. Why it happens, I always ask myself that. I feel bad for Bruce."
Burks is a player the Giants had been linked to prior to the draft. He is a 5-foot-10, 178-pound free safety.
