"It’s kind of hard to say I’m on Osi’s side. I understand it from the players’ side, but from the ownership side, they’re doing the right thing. They understand that there are some medical issues with Osi, maybe he doesn’t have a lot of good years left with his health and his body. The guy’s been very productive, but Osi needs to make his mind and say, ‘I might not go out there and get money like I think I can. I might not get Charles Johnson money. Maybe I need to settle for the $7 or $8 million I’m getting the next two years.’ So really I’m not on Osi’s side on this one."

Good for you Antonio

He was always a team first player…. not a knock on Strahan but its pretty typical that Strahan would side with Osi and Antonio with the Giants

Strahan

also had the same agent as Osi

by NJsandman on Aug 5, 2011 11:29 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Strahan is a narcissist

When he was talking about Osi, he was really talking about himself and his situation.

Great player. Entertaining to listen to. But once in a while, just annoying.

Guy acts like he is Chris Johnson

Rushing for 2000 yards for 600k or somthing. Osi has been well compencated for what he does and becuase of injury has out played his contract. Everybody is saying the Giants should just move on, but why should they. We should suspend him this season and see if his tune changes next year after sitting out and not getting paid.

Osi HOFer

Osi is a HOFer …………………… in his own mind.

The bottom line. Osi is one dimensional. He’s very good in that dimension but is average in other facets of the game. He sells out for the glorified sack.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 5, 2011 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Nice link

But I wouldn’t rely only on stats.
Osi has not outplayed his contract we all agree (or at least a majority I think) on that).
But what really shows that is his inability to do something else thatn rushing outside the tackle and inability to bull rush or attack the line inside. Plus the guy is very inconsistent. He gets sacks against the Panthers or the Lions but disappears against the Eagles or the Packers that have superior LT or good QB who knows how to avoid pressure by getting rid of the ball quickly or using their legs.

It’s time to ship out Osi. A second is enough Reese shouldn’t exclude a trade just because noone want to give a 1st. He is not worth a 1st

There has to be some middle ground

First, Osi needs to understand that basically he was paid for one year when he was hurt and then paid another when he was horrible in ’09.

The Giants need to redo his deal and put in incentives so he’ll get paid like a star if he hits those 11+ sacks and forced fumbles and pro-bowler.

Hell, I would add 250k for every sack against Philly and Dallas.

Report this morning from Schefter says the Jets are mulling

giving up a 1 to get Osi.

He believes it will take a couple of preseason games for team to realize they need the help.

Also, most teams are turned away because he’s asking for big money and has injury problems.

It’s not the pick as much as the salary he wants after he’s traded.

by The Curse on Aug 5, 2011 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

why

would the Jets give up a #1 for Osi when the market dictates a #2? The Jets are probably assuming their number #1 will be the 32nd pick of the draft.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 5, 2011 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Probably will be a late No. 1

However the Jet’s are trying to win before their window closes, so they might be inclined to be a little more reckless. Plus Rex would be able to use Osi’s talents to the fullest.

Osi

is not the solution to the Jets pass rush problems. But I’ll take their #1 for Osi in a heart beat.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 5, 2011 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Don't know if the Jests pick will be a low as you surmise they are assuming though..

Pats beefed up, playing the NFC East, Plax+D.Mason(?) replacing Braylon+Cotchery a downgrade I think,.. not sure they can 3-peat an AFC title game appearance. Maybe a let-down year.

by BigBlueDeadHead on Aug 5, 2011 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions

The Jets and Rex

believe they’ll win the SB each and every season.

I’d trade Osi for the Jet’s #1. And I agree the Jets won’t make it to the AFC championship game again.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 5, 2011 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Add in a young QB

Look what happened to Eli breaking in new guys, granted these guys are vets, but there is still a break in period, combine with short camp and Jets could have a disappointing season

by trueblue63 on Aug 5, 2011 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions

The Jets are all in

and will need to get to Brady this year.

Rex’s def relies on pressure and Osi could help out. Is it a smart move no – but is Rex all there mentally?

Please get Phil Simms in the Hall of Fame

by The Curse on Aug 5, 2011 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

if they offered a 1

i would certainly think about taking that. the Jets are losing receivers and Mason is not the answer. that could make Sanchez struggle a bit more this year and thus make the team a bit worse. a first round from the Jets might be around 20 this year and that would be worth Osi and his problems

by NJsandman on Aug 5, 2011 11:39 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

If they give us a number one for him,

I hope JR is all over that, Tired of Osi’s act and that would be fair compensation for a player who might take the Jet’s over the top.

by Late for Dinner on Aug 5, 2011 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Even in 2007

Osi wasn’t great. Excluding the 6 sack game vs Eagles he had 7 sacks in 15 games.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 5, 2011 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions

That's what makes Osi's diaper dump so fustrating

The guy has had 1 Pro Bowl season 07 since he signed the contract. Take awayy the Eagles game and he does not even make the Pro Bowl that year. Yet in his mind he has out perfomed the contract even though he missed a season because of injury and had two so so years becuase of injury. Nothing about Osi’s perfomance says rip up his contract with two years left and give him a new deal. Osi has just not played that good.

by Late for Dinner on Aug 5, 2011 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Plus as Myers points out

Giants ripped up his rookie contract after 3 years and gave him the largest contract a 3 year player had ever gotten to that point, 6 yrs $41m. He has now gotten $34m of the contract over 4 years. He totally missed one year due to injury and then was benched another year. How has he outplayed his contract again? I truly don’t get it.

and he pays back 100K for each sackless game vs Eagles & Dallas.

And 100K every time he opens his mouth, that way chances are he owes the Giants money at the end of the year

I'm a little surprised where AP came out on this one ...

Since he tried the same thing as Osi once he was hitting 30 and slowing down, and got nowhere with JR. Call it maturity or whatever, but no sour grapes here. Gotta respect that.

by Shofner85 on Aug 5, 2011 11:24 AM EDT reply actions

He tried it and than when reality hit him in the head

He went back to work and was happy with the money he was earning. Osi refuses to accept reality and thinks the Giants are hurting him.

Hell had Osi approached the Giants about putting some incentives in so he could earn more money I’ll bet they would have done it. But since he choose the Jack azz rout now he is in a standoff with the team.

by Late for Dinner on Aug 5, 2011 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions

I dunno what to do with Osi

maybe at some point he realizes he’s wrong, but can they just mend fences? It does seem that he’s really pissed but more so at upper management. It doesn’t seem like he’s pissed at Walking Farts or Fewell or anything like that.

Maybe the Giants just continue to be patient, like they always are, and see if the market comes to them. Maybe another teams DE gets hurt in preseason and they feel its worth the risk. Or maybe one of the Giants DEs get hurt and they give in to Osi’s demands.

by Rorschach44 on Aug 5, 2011 11:28 AM EDT reply actions

My two cents is Giants upper management must make an example out of Osi

Because if we trade Osi away for anything less than a No. 1 Pick Osi wins, and now there is a blue print on what to do when you feel you want more money here. Osi has not out performed his contract yet feels he is intittled to hold up the team because he wants more money.

Bottom line is Osi at 30 with 2 years left on his deal has a lot more to loose than we do. Yeah he can mess up this season for us. Giants should bring him in and explain that they are going to suspend him for the season without pay and next year they are going to bring him back and make him play for the same money or he can be suspended again. Two years out of the leage at 32 with an injury history, nobody is paying Osi big money and he will never make up the 7 million he is about to loose.

Edwards actually only got 1 year at 1 million

Does anyone else find it a bit counter-productive...

Osi is trying to secure a trade and a big money contract. Yet, he claims his knee is hurt so he can’t practice. How does that make teams want to give up the 1st rnd pick and pay him well? It seems to me that it would lower his value.

u should find something else to do! You like the GM,you have your head up your ass!!!!!!!!! we have not singed a linebacker in years think about it, he has on Herry Carson JERSEY, HE is not a pimple on his ass, like I said find something elese to do like go play in the road out side of the stadium, may be u could talk about that. your inputs suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go back were was the last linebacker we had, get rid of the GM and find someone knows talent.. DON`T KNOW ABOUT ANYONE ELSE IT IS GETTING SICKING..

Send him home for the year. Put him on IR or trade him. Reason is because longer you allow this circus to go on the longer it will be a distraction to the team.
