New York Giants News: Bruce Johnson Ruptures Achilles Tendon
The New York Giants suffered their first serious injury of the 2011 training camp during Thursday evening's practice when Bruce Johnson went down with a season-ending ruptured Achilles Tendon.
Johnson, a 25-year-old cornerback, played in all 16 games for the Giants in 2009 after making the team as an undrafted free agent. He played six gamaes last season before going on injured reserve with a knee injury. He has 61 tackles and two interceptions during his Giants career.
The injury apparently happened during defensive drills, with the defense on the field farthest away from reporters. Johnson was competing for a roster spot in what is really a crowded secondary.
Devin Thomas sat our practice after rolling an ankle Wednesday night, and Domenik Hixon did not practice as a precaution as he recovers from knee surgery.
I will be back in the morning with a complete practice report.

Shame
he would’ve made for a real strong secondary and allowed for Prince to be brought along slowly.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Just posted this on the other thread, but...
Does Johnson still get his full year’s salary paid, if/when the Giants place him on IR, even though he didn’t make the final roster yet?
Hi prince
Heres the playbook. Learn it.
Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....

RIP Career of Bruce Johnson
We hardly knew ye.
Tough break, kid, hope you can make it back.
Re: Prince… Isn’t CB one of the easiest positions to pick up? Isn’t it just like, cover this zone, cover this dude, stay underneath, go over top? Press, play off… Am I missing much here?
easier than some other positions, but
Hands and technique are different in the NFL and when up against better competition. Also it’s a faster, stronger league than college, so he needs to adjust to pace and probably get stronger.
Also techniques that are scheme and play specific.
Also the vocabulary of the system and the complexity of Fewell’s read and react defense. He has to learn the reads, which means he also has to learn NFL offenses as well, and opposing team systems, to some degree.
Then, getting all that stuff in his head and memorized, he needs enough practice time to develop enough muscle memory for the techniques to make it all automatic.
Natural talent goes a long way for some people, and in 2007 CWeb did do well, and got better as the year progressed. But that’s not generally the norm.

didn't mean to discredit
I meant relative to say an Olineman that has to know exotic blocking schemes and how to pick up blitzes and traps and snap counts and all that stuff. It’s not like we’re asking him to start, he’s basically gonna be 4th CB (esp. w Bruce done) so, I’m hoping he can learn enough to handle 10-12 dime packages a game. Get studying, kid.
It's gonna happen I think around the league
These guys haven’t hit since the last game they played and you have guys trying to make the squad. It’s bound to happen unfortunately

Damn..
Takes away from some of the nice depth. Well Prince, get ready :)
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
This really sucks for the kid.
Hopefully he can make a comeback from this…

Bad luck Bruce
One of my favourite Giants players. That decision to draft a cornerback isn’t looking as daft now as I thought it was at the time.
Poor Bruce
not a superb player but he was fine as a nickel CB and depth guy. Likely the end of the road for him… given that he was getting by on effort and determination, not physical gifts (seeing as he is what… 5’9"?).
