I told you guys earlier that New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was excited about the prospect of having his full squad working together for the first time Thursday evening (minus Prince Amukamara and, probably Osi Umenyiora). Here is Coughlin's quote on the subject.
"I've been looking forward to this as I'm sure every coach in the league has," Coughlin said. "You're just hoping that those 16 guys who are standing there watching are learning while they are. So what we'll do this afternoon is, I want to move them all forward at the same time and these people would not be ready to go in pads so we'll put our guys in shells for a couple days."
Rocky Bernard is back. The Giants re-signed the veteran defensive tackle today and waived/injured Richmond defensive tackle Martin Parker. Bet you didn't see that one coming. It will be interesting to find out what type of contract Bernard signed.
The Giants' new starting center, David Baas, met with a group of reporters today. Baas really didn't say a whole lot, but what I can tell you is that there is a presence about the 6-foot-4, 319-pound former San Francisco 49er. There seems to be a little bit of a playful side to Baas which emerges in the way he answers questions. But, there is also a nasty streak hiding in there somewhere.
Speaking of presence, starting guard David Diehl came meandering through the lunch room today while the media was eating. No way I was going to tell him, but Diehl was not sporting a good look. T-shirt, bright shorts and light green and orange sneakers that probably glow in the dark.
