What I'm looking for vs. the Jets
Since today is a slow football day, I figured I'd make a post dedicated to what those of us will be looking for against the Jets.
My main areas I will be watching are as follows:
The continued cohesiveness of the offensive line. Can they continue to play well as a group, and will Beatty and Baas make this line a strong point of this team, as it has been in years past.
Travis Beckum, for obvious reasons. Can he be on the field enough to be effective in the run game, as a blocker, and in the passing game, as a receiver. Can he hold his own vs. linebackers at the point of attack, or do we have to bring in Bear to help block.
I would like to see Hynoski as the lone Fullback, get all the reps with the first team, and have Bear play solely Tight end. Since I beleive this is how it will be during the regular season, it would be nice to see Hynoski get a full game's worth of plays at FB, and have Bear play a full game in the role many believe he will have during the season, as the backup, blocking TE.
Dodge vs. Weatherford. 2 weeks ago, I was with many who automatically assumed Weatherford was our punter, now I'm not so sure. They both have had excellent preseasons, and I believe the first to make a big mistake will be out of the job. Should be interesting to watch.
Kenny Phillips. For a guy who was supposed to develop into a star safety, he has looked anything but this preseason. I'm looking for him to have a solid game, and not look as lost or late to the ball as he has.
Aaron Ross. Can he have another solid game like he did vs. the Bears, and ease some of the worries if he can be a starting corner for this team. If he has a good game, it will go a long way towards relaxing many people's concerns about the Cornerback position.
Those are the main areas I'll be watching with great interest, anyone have any other things they'll be looking for tomorrow night vs. the Jets?

Bonus area to watch.
Who, if anyone, steps up and becomes a clear candidate for the #3 WR spot. Many people feel Hixon is the guy, but I want to see what Jernigan, Thomas and Cruz can do. I think at this point, Thomas has to be our kick and punt returner, so that may hurt him at getting the 3rd WR spot, but it should still be an interesting battle to watch.

Agreed.
In the #3 WR scenario, I would most like to see Hixon continue to play well, maybe make a big play. That way we are not watching inconsistencies, just the continued progression of Hixon.
But I really don’t care who wins the job. I just want the best guy to separate himself from the pack and play consistently well.
I will be at the season opener NYG @ WAS with a few friends. If you are going and feel like looking up a fellow BBVer and having some fun, let me know.
it's Becks for me
the Jets don’t have alot of great cover LB’s, and their safeties are decent, but it’s still a D that Beckum should be able to get open on.
Also want to see who breaks out as the third back in that batlle. i’m looking for AB2 to have that break out game i know he can. also can Darel Scott put up further evidence that he deserves a roster spot – last week wasn’t too shabby, but it was still only one carry. gotta see what he can do in a handful of carries.
Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!

Yeah, another couple of big runs for DRel would make me a very happy fan.
I love having a great running game.

And gimme some more GREAT Special Teams play!
Can you believe how well we played last week? We (here I go with the ‘we’ stuff) even blocked a punt! How often do, ahem…the Giants do that?

Agreed.
Gotta like what you saw from the special teams, hopefully they can keep it up. #rd RB is an interesting one too. My vote goes to Da’Rel Scott. Ware doesn’t seem to have a place on this team.

I am interested in DJ Ware.
He played well against Seattle last year but other than that, I haven’t much of him. I don’t understand why. It has been this way for much of the time that he has been with us. I don’t think that it is because of his play.
Look, I know many of my Giant fans peers don’t think that DJ can get the job done. I mean he hasn’t been the stand-out type of player but I strongly believe that if Gilbride uses him properly (i.e. screen passes, quick passes, sweeps, maybe a little passes underneath defensive coverage, etc) Ware can be more productive.
I hope he get significant playing time in this game against the Jets and is involved in some plays listed above. If he fails then you hear another word from me about Ware.
I will also keep my eye on Ross, Eli, Paul and Baas (he played well in the last game but I still don;t think that he has arrived yet.).
Factology! Belief is ignorance.

Personally
I think the TE situation is fine. I’m not worried about the receptions. Boss only had 35 last year. we’ll get that from our TE’s, I’m sure. I’m worried about the run blocking. and judging from last week’s game, they did fine.
Let's Go Giants!!!!
Agreed.
Production won’t be an issue, it’s not like Boss did much of anything last year anyway. Can Beckum hold up in run blocking, or do we have to go to a 2 TE set is the question.

do we even rely on our tight ends really making lots of catches?
how many tight ends do we have competing for the position, im sure one of these guys can do what boss did, boss is somewhat overrated

VERY VERY high on Jones.
Boley may be expendable after this season depending on how he develops/matures/plays this season. I like the thought of that.
