Fantasy Football: Which Rookie Would You Want?

Yahoo! Fantasy Football supports SB Nation and pigskin awesomeness. It’s also the #1 Fantasy Football game thanks to dazzling player research, instant stats with free live scoring, iPhone, Android, and iPad apps this season. Plus, new scoring categories for long receptions and rush plays.

The Big Blue View Fantasy Football League has already held its draft. Shoot, we've already had a trade and a whole bunch of roster moves, too.

Here is my question for you fantasy gurus today. If you could have one rookie on your fantasy team roster who would it be? I know who it would be for me, but I want to hear what you guys think.

Julio Jones

there is no other correct answer (assuming we aren’t talking about IDP players).

also

you can eliminate Ingram because of the timeshare he’s in. Thomas/Sproles are going to eat into his carries

eliminate AJ Green because he’s going to have nobody to deflect attention away from him and a rookie QB.

First year QB’s are 99/100 times not worth having on your fantasy roster.

Thomas hasn’t shown he’s ready to be a #1 back for Miami. He’s been decent in pre season games

Williams and LeShoure are injured

Helu might be a good option but he’s still got to beat out Torain and Hightower. He plays on a team that was mediocre at run blocking though.

Torrey Smith isn’t ready yet. that’s why baltimore traded for lee evans.

Greg Little could be good but i can’t trust anyone playing for cleveland for fantasy purposes.

I doubt

there will be much of a timeshare in NO. Ingram will be the lead back, Sproles will play the role reggie bush played. That means Ingram gets 17-20 touches per game. With the way that offense spreads the field, I’m excited to see what the kid does. Unfortunately, Julio won’t get 17-20 touches per game, so I’d still take Ingram.

right now ingram is more goal line and running with the second team
The good news is Ingram was used as the Saints’ goal-line back on a one-yard plunge, a role in which he should have plenty of opportunities during the regular season. The troubling news is that Pierre Thomas doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, also totaling seven touches for 48 yards. Throw in Darren Sproles and it is going to be hard to predict if Ingram can generate the amount of carries to become the standout everyone expects him to be. Still, Thomas has been one of the league’s most injury prone backs in recent years, and Sproles is strictly a situational player.

Charles Scott

Madden says he has 96 speed and 94 acceleration. Obviously a football GOD.

by Charles L on Aug 23, 2011 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Well, his per carry average was 97 yards

If he gets two or three carries per game with that average, I’ll take him

and it’s not even close. Ingram is stuck fighting for carries in NO while Thomas looks to be the guy in Miami.. the Larry Johnson signing doesn’t scare me

Reggie

The coaches feel he is the guy in Miami and the preseason/practice carries shows that.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

cam newton

not a huge fan, but qb gives you an opportunity to gain points on just about every play from scrimmage…

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

by njsoldier1978 on Aug 23, 2011 11:23 PM EDT reply actions

That depends though

To keep this into perspective, Newton is a rookie seeing base, vanilla-like defensive schemes. Once the real games count, DC’s will start throwing things at him that he’s never seen. IMO, if your getting a point for every 25 passing yard, you then can only consider on average, how many yards he may have per game? Probably not too many to suggest anything of fantasy-worthiness!

If you saw him in the Patriots 1st preseason game he lit it up.
Runs fast and with power and is great receiver out of the backfield.
