Brian Witherspoon Also Out For Season

The hits just keep on coming for the New York Giants cornerbacks. Brian Witherspoon, carted off in the second half Monday night against the Chicago Bears, announced via Twitter that he is done for the season.

Spoony29_medium

Witherspoon was injured while returning a punt. He joins Terrell Thomas and Bruce Johnson as cornerbacks already out for the season. Prince Amukamara's return from a broken foot is still several weeks away.

Witherspoon had been impressive during the preseason and when Thomas went down in the first half he looked like a player who might be able to step into a larger role in the secondary. Now, though, all he will be stepping into is a cast.

100%

Player injury rate in the NFL. Everyone’s too fast and too strong nowadays. Also the smaller guys (like Hixon) just have to make the wrong step and the ACL tears ot the hamstring goes.

You're right

Get Lito Sheppard or Randall Gay, and you have him, Cweb, Ross, and then Prince when he gets back. We were well equipped to handle these losses.

I just didn’t expect it to be before the 3rd preseason game that we lose more or less all our depth. Bruce Johnson and Brian Witherspoon were showing flashes, and like him or not, TT was a starter.

Don't the Giants usually have 5 CBs?

It would’ve been Cweb, Ross, Prince, TT, Bruce Johnson, then Brian Witherspoon.

Bruce is gone. Then TT went. Prince ain’t comin’ back till week 3. The Giants had all that information.

That made Witherspoon the nickel back until Prince came back, and who knows if Prince is game ready when he comes back anyway. Just an oversight by the team, I would think.

And Witherspoon was building his case to make the roster both via being useful depth at CB and as a punt returner as he was doing the second more impressively than JJ2

Can we reactivate the lockout?

Just until we stop getting hurt. So, I’m thinking…..2024 should be about right. Maybe all players should wear knee braces.

Coughlin was right in 2004

Injuries are a cancer with this team. Has to be either the field or training methods. Or Voodoo. Much as I love the idea of black magic, think I’m going to disregard it as a reason.

by ZILLAG on Aug 23, 2011 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

Considering

all the injuries from the last 2 years have mostly been bad luck, and have had NOTHING to do with strength and conditioning…

I’m leaning towards Voodoo.

The saddest part

I was looking forward to going against the saints and the packers with a stronger secondary this time. Guess thats not happening

Wow!!!

Again, I hope Reese can pull off a nice replacement for you guys. I hope it’s not Lito either because I don’t think he’s a good corner at alll anymore, and he’s barely ever healthy. I think it’s time to get Osi back on the trading block.

Let's hope there is a cut soon that helps

Gay is OK, and Coe hasn’t been that bad

PS the EQ was nothin, used to sleep thru tremors like that when I lived in Cali. But the first time you feel a rumble it’s pretty freaky.

Here is the good news

Eli Manning is not hurt. He is truly the only single player that is not replaceable. He will get us into the playoffs this year, and we will make a run.

Congrats to the Eagles. They beat the Redskins and can officially be declared the off-season champs.

Off topic but

did anyone see the logo for the stadium yet? I think the artist had JR in mind when he/she made this.

Hey coughlin, heard there’s an opening in Cleveland. You should fit right in….. Loser!
I think Coach Coughlin should be fired! How come there are no locals in that line-up. Nothing to give the fans a name they know, nobody on that roster that went to Rutgers University, St Johns or any team from New York or New Jersey. And if the locals can’t get a shot on the franchise from the state they live in, why are we fans going to these games. To see some other state, and see our players play for foreign teams (other states) this is the first time in 20 years, the Giants don’t have any locals on their roster.

And we add yet another one to the "hope" list

Maybe it’s more of a “bite the dust” list. Crap.

Quit playing not to lose. Start playing to WIN! Geeez...
