Not a whole lot for New York Giants fans to get excited about Saturday night in a 20-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers in their preseason opener. Thankfully, this game didn't count for anything.

The Giants' offense couldn't get much of anything done. The punt coverage wasn't good. The kick and punt returns went nowhere. The tackling was, predictably, sloppy. There were, however, some things to feel good about.

Jason Pierre-Paul had four tackles and two sacks. Domenik Hixon (five catches, 86 yards) and Devin Thomas (three catches, 23 yards looked good at the receiver position. Chris Canty played well.

Scary moment for the Giants when Lawrence Tynes was run into after having a field goal blocked. Tynes was initially diagnosed with a thigh contusion.

The next Giants preseason game will be at New Meadowlands Stadium on Monday, Aug. 22. Pretty obvious the Giants have a lot of work to do between now and then.
