the delay on SS12 is probably due to his injury.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 1, 2011 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

there's time on SS12

He’s going to open the season PUP, and will probably end up with a 1 year deal to reestablish his value. So missing camp time is not an issue.

Plus, under the new CBA, only the top 51 player salaries count against the cap. On a one year deal, SS12 will not get a big deal or too much guarantee, so it’s not all that clear that his deal will make a big impact on the cap as he pushes someone else below the magic #15 line.

In other words, it doesn’t hurt him or the Giants for him to sign any time during the preseason.

Boss, on the other hand, needs to fish or cut bait sooner rather than later.

I'm glad too bc

i want a solid run game and with the guys back esp AB who led NFL in rushing last year for a few weeks ended up with 1200 yards or so with some TDs tagged in there. That is a solid RB. Plus the way his helmet moves when he cuts tell me who wouldnt miss that.

Now can we just get JR to sign a LB. We have to get some top LB out there because Grand Ma’s bridge club isn’t going to get it done. How said is it when a UFA is the bright spot of the LB strategy.

by GMen56-11 on Aug 1, 2011 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

LISTEN MAAAAN!!!! WE HAVE LB'S NOW HUSH!!!!! here is a direct quote for the masses from JR

since i cant get any of you to shut your traps on the LB talk for the last 5 months maybe he can;

“Q: Do you feel like you need to sign a veteran Linebacker?

A: I anticipate the linebackers that we have playing and somebody coming out of the shadows. I am tired of people saying the Giants don’t have the Linebackers. The Linebacker group should take that as a challenge. They should take that as a challenge from me that we have linebackers. You have to develop somebody at some point. We have some young players that have to step up and that’s what I think about the linebackers."

Sounds good

Only problem is that’s what Reese said that last year and clearly we need help at LB. Got my fingers crossed becasue it seems our LB’s are not going to change much.

by Late for Dinner on Aug 1, 2011 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I remember that quote...

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer (looks into the cameras and hold…….)

but it’s sounds like the same talk as last year. We’ve all been waiting for a LB to step up for so long, maybe we don’t realize when someone does. Goff took his game to a higher level, but we had a few people on the market who’ve already been signed. What do we do now? tell the Sneagles to wait? Either you are growing or you are dying.

This group has been circling the drain for a while.

by EverBlue on Aug 1, 2011 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes and Goff stepped up

now its time for him to step up more and for someone to lock down SAM……other than that im not jumping off a bridge.

Would like to see Osi signed to an extension after FA’s all cleared. But I fear he won’t be happy with anything other than an unfairly rich deal so I think at best we’ll have to deal with his whining for a lot longer, and at worst, he’s gone.

by AJ_in_VA on Aug 1, 2011 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Its just rotoworld speculating, but its an interesting thought

http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4210/aaron-ross

Giants CB Aaron Ross is refusing to play safety going forward after seeing action there in a pinch last season.
“I’m not willing to do safety anymore,” he said. “Wouldn’t entertain it.” Ross has been dogged by lower-leg and foot injuries over the past two seasons, starting just two games and missing 13. After the Giants used a first-round pick on Prince Amukamara, it isn’t out of the question that Ross could be on the trade block at the end of camp. He’s in the last year of his deal.

Get Better, Not Bitter.

by BigBlueIntervention on Aug 1, 2011 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I like him better at CB too but...

if his hammy can’t hold up, then he’ll be better suited to contributing by playing a bit of hybrid/safety in a pinch. Or, the freaking shelf or dustbin. And I like Ross I really do. But he’s not reading TC’s tee-shirts apparently..

by BigBlueDeadHead on Aug 1, 2011 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions

This is ridiculous.

He doesn’t want to play safety, because he wants to concentrate on playing corner. He wants to be the corner back that he thinks he can be. What’s so wrong with that?

Dude is having a great training camp so far. It would be ridiculous for the Giants to even think about trading him for those remarks.

by GoffAttack on Aug 1, 2011 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt he's being traded cuz he doesn't want to play somewhere he's not supposed to

Beckum might have been a mistake to draft. Will be held onto for another year to prove it probably.

by BigBlueDeadHead on Aug 1, 2011 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

You can't deny his athletic ability....

Just the wrong fit. Unless we see a significant change in the offense this year.

I think that we may be running a lot of 2 WR/2TE/1RB or 2WR/1TE/2RB sets this year. The offense was almost too aggressive last year, hence the turnovers. Plus if the Eagles retain Asante, keeping in the base package works to our advantage.

by Rorschach44 on Aug 1, 2011 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Here's the ESPN insider take:

Patrick has adequate size for the position and above-average initial quickness and downfield speed. He shows adequate agility and body control in his underneath routes but does not show the kind of downfield speed that can threaten the secondary down the seam. He is more of a blocker than a receiver, although he is not a real powerful inline blocker. He relies more on finesse and technique to turn and seal the edge and will work to sustain his blocks.

by GiantNomad on Aug 1, 2011 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

He probably didn't cost much

And the Cardinals signed Todd Heap and Jeff King so they probably weren’t looking to resign the guy. It is pretty clear that we won’t go into the season with 4 TEs on the roster so all this means is that one of the four will either get cut or not get resigned (Boss).
