Nnamdi Asomugha to the Eagles: 5yr/$60mil

Well this just came out of left field and ruined my day. I was hearing the Jets for a long time, and then this had to happen.

Courtesy of ESPN

Nnamdi Asomugha has agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The former Oakland Raiders cornerback appeared headed to the Dallas Cowboys, but Asomugha's agent said friday evening the Cowboys were not in consideration.

Can we say best secondary in football?

No because

Asante Samuel will be traded and they have no safety’s.

If they keep Samuels though

DRC is their SLOT CB… that is ridiculous.

by brisulph on Jul 29, 2011 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Asante Samuel 9 mill
Nam 12 mill
DRC 5 mill

26 mill at the corner position is a bit insane.

IF

They likely send him out for some picks for next year’s draft, further bolstering them. If Reid can strong together some big game coaching moments, they might be looking at 2 SB in the next 5.

by brisulph on Jul 29, 2011 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

IF

they have the real deal at QB. Or someone who folds down the stretch as he has done before. And IF this same QB can avoid injury. Something he has a hard time avoiding. IF these questions are answered in the affirmative, then yes, they have a Super Bowl caliber contender. No more than that.

Eagles are in our heads

We’re all so focused on the draft, trades and free agency that we’re seeing with tunnel vision. We’re too focused the ideas of money, stats, and numbers. There are other factors that make the Giants the team to beat.

Our Giants have shown a team first mentality throughout this off season. While the rest of the league is worrying about single player contracts, our players are restructuring theirs for the good of the team.
Our core group of players have played together for 4 years and they know the system. With a limited training camp, the players that have played together are the ones that will be victorious.

Let’s not lose sight of the Superbowl just yet.

meh...

good signing for them, got off pretty cheap too. I’d be more concerned if they signed Stephen Tulloch to be honest. Still could care less about the Eagles.

this should be incentive for the Giants to look at Zach Miller

LB and S are still weak points for the Eagles. Miller would be able to have a big game each time against them

Nnamdi is going to get torched by Hakeem Nicks.

I don’t care we will still beat the Eagles this year, and we will take the NFC East.

Really?

Your OL seems to be in complete rebuild mode..

Peters and Herremans will be their usual selves.
McGlynn or Jackson will be the Center- Both are solid-good.
Justice will be back healthy and he’s solid.
Watkins looks like he’s going to be a stud at RG, if not he’s going to be good.

You guys traded old for old and somehow got better?

rebuild?

where? Diehl is playing his normal position and we signed a veteran to play C. The Giants C position was a revolving door last year, and they solidified it. They got younger and more athletic at LT now too with Beatty.

Definitely an improvement. If they kept the same guys it would be cause for concern, and if they went with a bunch of young players it would be in rebuild mode.

As it stands? Vast improvement, at least on paper, from last year.

Ok, so why can't you agree the Eagles

Adding Watkins, and bring back a healthy Jamaal Jackson at Center and Winston Justice at RT is an improvement?

I mean if you guys going to a guy like Baas who’s honestly a solid player, then going with an unproven guy in Beatty then the Eagles bringing back 2 guys healthy and 1 very talented Rookie counts.

Justice and Jackson would be like the Giants bringing back Seubert and O"Hara

they’re good players, but coming off injury. SO that’s a ?, even more considering Justice seems to be likely to miss a good portion of camp as he’s still hurt.

Beatty isn’t really unproven, he played very well in his time last year and many were surprised/pissed when he didn’t get to keep the job cuz Andrews and Diehl were much worse then him.

The Eagles line will probably be fine, but don’t come on here and act like the Giants line is in “complete rebuild mode”. Its in less of a rebuild mode then the Eagles.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

by Rorschach44 on Jul 31, 2011 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly.

Justice performed well up until he got hurt, he’ll be fine by game 1.. He’s not to much of a question mark.

I actually don’t think Jackson will be our Center all season, McGlynn’s a good center but for some reason they’re screwing him out of the job.. He’ll have it back by week 6.

I’ll take your word on Beatty.

I never came on here saying you were in full rebuild mode, I wasn’t even acting like it.. But the Eagles are replacing 1 starting spot, the Giants are replacing 3… Who’s in more of a rebuild mode?

how are the Eagles replacing one spot?

Jackson didn’t play last year, that’s two. The Giants are replacing one spot, the C position. The others are in their right spots now, no patchwork line.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

by Rorschach44 on Aug 1, 2011 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Because Jackson's played there for a long time, he's a known commodity..

and Justice played there last season, so even then we’re not replacing a RT..

So....

Diehl played LG before for a while, and should’ve been there his whole career. And Beatty played LT last year. We’re not replacing anyone either aside from the C position.

see if maybe the $60 million feels worse when eli stacks up 150 yards on him…

LOL...

I don’t think Nnamdi’s had a 150 yards passed on him in a year for like 6 years now.. I’d be surprised if that happens in 1 game against any QB.

most likely cuz the rest of the Raider secondary was easy to pick on

tho when the Giants played the Raiders in 2009, they torched Nnamdi and whoever else was covering the WRs, so while its one game its not like the Giants haven’t played against him and had a track record.
