Report: Giants Moving David Diehl To Left Guard
The Bergen Record is reporting that the New York Giants have told veteran offensive lineman David Diehl that he will be moving to left guard this season, and that Will Beatty is going to take over at left tackle.
Many Giants fans have been hoping for this move for a couple of seasons now, with Diehl's play at left tackle having been sub-par. Beatty was drafted in the second round in 2009 to take over this job, and now we will find out for certain whether or not he can handle it.
The line is now Beatty (LT), Diehl (LG), David Baas (C), Chris Snee (RG), Kareem McKenzie (RT). Adam Koets, Mitch Petrus and Kevin Boothe will likely be the primary backups.
Diehl was drafted by the Giants as a guard, and played well there before being moved to tackle. He has now played every position on the line except center. The Record also reports that the move inside could cost Diehl between $750,000 and $1.1 million, due to the structure of his contract.

Great move
Hope that Beatty comes thru and that Mack stays healthy but I think that we’ll be pretty solid.
Koets, Petrus, and Boothe are all serviceable backups but I agree with you Ed, I’d be nervous with Brewer as our only backup T.
well
they can always use Deihl at tackle too
the hell u say!

Sex is like math. Add the bed, Subtract the clothes, divide the legs ... And pray to god you don't multiply!!
Also have Booth and Brewer in there
and really Diehl is the primary backup T. I doubt they’re signing any new players for the OL, probably just either Seubert or O"hara to a cheap deal if they want to come back.

Andrews too
If he doesn’t sign with anyone else, hope they can bring him back for a reasonable salary. He’d be a great backup across the whole line, except C. If we can do that, we’re pretty much set with the OL
The football team in my school, they were tough! After they sacked the quarterback they went after his family.

Not Thanks to Andrews
I like the guy, he is a warrior and can still play… Having said all that I just don’t think his back is up to playing in the NFL anymore. I hope the guy starts thinking about his post NFL career becasue I would hate for him to be crippled for the rest of his life.
With all the back surgeries he has had I just don’t think we could count on him if he is pressed into service.

I agree Late
This dude really gave his all but I think it’s pretty obvious he will never make it thru a 16 game season as a starter.
I heard his bro got released by Seattle.
If Beatty can step up (and make big plays)
This could be a solid line.

Give Petrus a chance
If some one needs a break. He is gonna be a good one.
Why is Tom Quinn still here?
+1
Also a great option for 6th lineman, on running sets. He’s already shown us he’s got wheels
You down wit JPP?
the lasting image of Mitch Petrus for as long as I live
will be Coughlin giving him the go ahead to get in the game, and him sprinting full speed onto the field…. that was classic man he looked like an 8 year old getting his first Pop Warner action

Beatty
Let’s pray he stays healthy this season.

The greatest thing to happen to the Giants outside of consecutive loosing seasons…
All I can say is THANK GOD!

Does this move affect his cap status?

the giants will save money on the cap from this
great move for the giants we get a LG, a LT, and we save cap room

excited about the move
it almost looks like a plan is coming together.
I seriously need WOOF or something like that to keep up with all of this news.
I have not yet begun to procrastinate
Petrus
Would love to see him a a capable center and guard backup. That would make Boothe expendable ( sorry, no fan of Boothe). Then if they keep 8 OL there is room to develop a tackle – Brewer? Diehl is the back up at LT and RT for now.
I’ve no strong opinion on Koets. Is he a keeper?
Bring lawyers, guns and money to get me out of this one! Stand in the Fire.
They just resigned Boothe, so he isn’t going anywhere. He’s relatively young, knows the system, and proved when called upon last year that he is more than capable.
Koets – see my explanation for Boothe above.

we disagree on Boothe
and a contract is only in force until they cut him
right now he and other vets are valuable because they know the playbook. Short training camp accelerates the learning curve for rookies and some will not be able to handle it. Can you say Sintim?

I think they signed Booth for two years
doubt he’s going anywhere

DRC and a mid round pick
sounds like overpaying, but no one ever accuses the Cardinals of knowing how to build a team anyway.

Goood, Good, Good
This move had to happen. Had to. Beatty’s in his 3rd year now, and if he’s every gonna be ready to take over at LT, now’s the time. On top of that, while Diehl obviously labored at LT, he’s a mauler inside and I think will return to a high level of play at guard like he did before the move. On top of that, the move saves the Giants a few bucks. Good, good, good.
Not too shabby at all
I like how this is shaping out. Really hoping either Seubert or Ohara come back with lesser contracts for depth purposes. both guys can still play at a high level, just need to get healthy.

Looks like the OL won’t be as old and useless as some people thought it would be.

Guarded optimism
Overall I think the changes needed to be made, BUT if a line is going to be cohesive it needs time to gel. The line we had last year started out of the gate well because they know each other and play well together (years of experience TOGETHER). They faded last year due to health concerns. This years group lacks last year’s experience overall and has not played together before as a group. Add to that, the lack of an offseason and it might be a rough season, at least initially. I hope I’m totally wrong.
