Thought i'd take this into my own hands

First: a moment of silence and respect for Shaun O'Hara and Richie Seubert.

Err, good knowing you Rocky. Not really, at all, you fat tack.

So this may be stalling for 75 words, it may not be. (checks) Yep needs more words.

Errr, so hopefully nmandi... nnamdi... asomooga, asomugah... that dude from the Raiders, stays off the Jets and Eagles.

Ok I think I'm good, post your hearts away

Bye Bye Rock we hardly knew you except for you big fat waste of space, not remotely worth the money you were given...

I would love to acquire him

I believe he is a top 5 running back when healthy and will come at a similar price as AB.

meh idk

he’s 28, been a workhorse for awhile. Also has had foot/ankle problems (surgery 2010).

Word is they're trying to keep AB.

Do you think Williams would replace AB or replace BJ if he refuses to restructure and gets cut?

by Matt V on Jul 27, 2011 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Which I would agree with trying to keep AB

AB, at this point, is younger and basically the same type of back. Both have injury concerns, but AB already has history with the team.

by CCE718 on Jul 27, 2011 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't see Williams as BJ's replacement

For that matter, I don’t see any back coming in here and being able to do the things that BJ does.

I just meant roster spot really.

Unless Bettis un-retires nobody replaces what he does.

by Matt V on Jul 27, 2011 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope we say sayonara to BJ

I just don’t see him being productive this year. Unless the hole is perfect, he probably won’t hit it. Catching passes out of the backfield? Don’t get me started. Goal line? Average at best. Williams would make a great 1-2 punch and get us back to playing real Giants football.

by nard100 on Jul 27, 2011 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

idk why carolina would want him tbh.

They have Jonathan Stewart and are rebuilding. They should save some $$$ and get a nice comp pick for him.

Comp picks this year...

Do the Giants get a 2 for losing Cofield? I don’t know any of the new rules.

by Matt V on Jul 27, 2011 1:31 PM EDT reply actions

Depends on who we sign

If we get DeAngelo Williams, I doubt we get any comp picks

it does unless the new CBA somehow changed this

compensatory picks are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency.

I dunno what that all matters

the only thing that matters here is we lost Cofield, so we get comp picks.

Whoever we sign doesn’t matter. It only matters for the players former team, which would then get comp picks.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

again. Who we sign matters

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, “a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.” although, Not every free agent lost or signed is covered by the formula.

by NYG_Slater on Jul 27, 2011 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

well we still ended up with picks in 2009 despite just losing Ward

so I guess he was “better” then what we got back, whatever that means.

comp picks are rd 3-7

and based off the free agents we sign.

by NYG_Slater on Jul 27, 2011 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

comp pick primer

I did pretty well this year on my guesses. Cofield is likely to be worth around a 4th rounder, if we do nothing else. There are no 2nd rounders, 3rd is the highest comp pick.

You get a comp pick if you lose a UFA with less than 10 years experience, or a RFA or UDFA that you tendered. You lose that pick if you sign another team’s free agents. Players cut do not count in the equation.

exactly

its part of the game…..its a business, see O’Hara, Rocky, Andrews…..they were all under contract….are the Giants doucebags for not honoring them?

by BigBlue82 on Jul 27, 2011 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes.

That’s why the players have a right to be selfish on contract issues.

by Matt V on Jul 27, 2011 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't really want to argue about this

but I think the point is that there should be a correspondence between performance and monetary compensation. If you are injured or playing below par, you get cut or restructure your contract.

If you play well, you get a long term extension. Osi is a douche because he’s getting fair compensation for his performance. Its not fair to the rest of his teammates or to the Giants organization.

Get Better, Not Bitter.

by BigBlueIntervention on Jul 27, 2011 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Osi should be happy with his pay....

but he does have the right to try to get more if he wants, just like the Giants have the right to cut him, or anyone else. This is how it is set up…..the business end of the game, as we all put it, it works both ways

by BigBlue82 on Jul 27, 2011 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

true, he's entitled to.

But that’s what makes him a douche. I understand both will try and cheat the other out of as much money as possible, but usually, they end up canceling each other out.

If Osi was making like a million a year or something, I would be more understanding…2 mill even….but when u average 7 million per year….hard for me to feel for you.

Get Better, Not Bitter.

by BigBlueIntervention on Jul 27, 2011 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I may be wrong but

I think that Osi has already earned the majority of that contract. I believe that he is only getting paid roughly 7mill over the next 2 years. So yeah this is a dick move on his part.

by Mother Tucker on Jul 27, 2011 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah strahan was a bit of a douche

Osi more so because its not like he has a ridiculously low contract. Chris Johnson holding out cuz he makes 800K. Osi is holding out because he’s making close to 7 mill a year. 6 yrs, 41 million dollars.

On top of that, he filed a lawsuit BECAUSE of it. And he says he’s a top 5 DE, but the fact remains that besides last year, the two years before that he’s been ineffective due to injury.

That’s why he’s a grade A douchebag.

Get Better, Not Bitter.

by BigBlueIntervention on Jul 27, 2011 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

his situation

was exactly what the NFLPA was looking for.

And Osi has not held out yet, we are all just assuming that he will, for all we know, he could show up, him and the Giants could be working on an extension

by BigBlue82 on Jul 27, 2011 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Dolphins have emerged as the favorites to land free agent Ahmad Bradshaw.
“I’ve been hearing a lot of momentum about Bradshaw to Miami,” reported La Canfora Wednesday afternoon. DeAngelo Williams just knocked it out of the park with a ridiculous contract from the Panthers, and Bradshaw should be able to come pretty close. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports free agent Plaxico Burress is expected to decide between the Giants and Steelers.
One report from a month ago suggested Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers’ coaches were more interested in Plax than the front office and ownership were. Burress will meet with Giants coach Tom Coughlin Friday night, then fly to Pittsburgh to visit coach Mike Tomlin. The Giants have reportedly discussed a two-year, $10.5 million contract with 60 percent in salary and bonuses and the remainder in incentives.

question....

if the dolphins sign ronnie brown, is there any other real competition for AB? Does that drop his asking price?

Is it possible JR is waiting this out? I know thats a lot to gamble.

by Matt dubs on Jul 27, 2011 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

JR will refuse to overpay, I'm sure

So if that means waiting, he’ll wait. Time could only be on his side if Bradshaw’s asking price is too high, because at the least, the market ceiling has already been established.

"Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand."

by AJ_in_VA on Jul 27, 2011 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions

i thought that until i saw the proposed Burress deal

5.25 per season for a WR who spent 2 years in jail and is 34…. that seems a bit high right? especially for a team flush w/ WRs.

If we signed Burress would we be looking to trade WRs?

by Matt dubs on Jul 27, 2011 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that's overpaying, too

But the wild card here may be that Tisch is promoting/facilitating this through a friend of his.

No, I’m not happy about that element.

Of course, they’ll say Coughlin can veto, but then, his leash for keeping his job gets a little shorter after this year.

by ct17 on Jul 27, 2011 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Some thoughts on all this....

Reggie Bush -I don’t think he would be a good replacement for Bradshaw. He has some superb skills, but as a pure running back, he is not very good. Therefore if Bradshaw left and Jacobs got injured, we would still have a void there, with or without Bush.

TIght end: we need to keep Boss (or sign a quality replacement) – isn’t Pascoe just a blocker, whereas of course Beckum is the other way around?

Surely we don’t need yet another wide receiver (talking about Trigger Happy here), especially at that price – we already have too many. I’d kind of like to see Victor Cruz play at some point actually.

Doubt that we need another defensive tackle either; we have 3 good ones, plus the “four defensive end” formation. There’s always Martin Parker as well, that undrafted free agent (don’t know if he’s officially signing). Excited about seeing Joseph or Austin in there.

Offensive line: baa-aaa! Could continue to decline, and that would be the Giants paying the price for not drafting high in that area these last two seasons, electing to draft in areas of strength instead. One 5th rounder, then one 4th rounder, we drafted. If we do lose Bradshaw, I fear for our running game.

Lastly, looks like Aussie Giant will have to redo his footer if Quincy Black signs his contract in Tampa. All those exclamation marks didn’t help.

Looking forward to the season, though. Got a feeling it’s gonna be a good one.

Yeah, I feel like the only way he was leaving, is if a team like that stupidly gave him TONS of money

Now that Miami has backed off of that, he will probably just take less and come back. And BTW, it seems as if SS12 is coming back from the comments on his FB page. He wrote,“Bring Back Plax!.” Why would he write this if he didn’t know he was coming back?

I think most of the his tweets are just educated guesses, but he claims his “sources” (could be a dirty sock for all we know) are reliable. Normally i wouldn’t believe anything he says, but he was dead on and very early breaking the VY deal (24 hrs before it happend) and the ochocinco trade (again atleast 24 hrs before it was announced). He’s been pretty much spot on all during this FA frenzy. So idk really what to think.
