Top Pass Blocking Tackles, Centers, and Guards

According to Pro Football Focus : 2010 Pass Blocking Efficiency: Guards and Centers  and 2010 Pass Blocking Efficiency: Tackles.

This just goes to show how badly David Diehl and Shaun O'Hara played last year in pass-blocking situations, and how stellar the All-Pro OG, Chris Sneeand the very underrated, Kareem McKenzie, were. The weird thing about this is that we were still ranked 6th in pass protection, as a team, according to Pro Football Focus. I'm not so sure how effective these football "sabermetrics" are, but it's at least worth a look.

Cowboys' UFA (depending on CBA) Left Tackle, Doug Free, is looking very attractive to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants went after him. Let me not forget to mention that the Cowboys did not franchise him.

In case you're too lazy to click the links:

Kareem McKenzie - 2nd best RT, 6th overall

Chris Snee - 8th best OG

David Diehl - 3rd worst LT, 5th overall

Shaun O'Hara - 3rd worst C

Doug Free (Potential UFA) - 5th best LT, 10th overall

I saw that

I think Seubert graded out well last year too, didn’t he?

Regarding Free…he’s gonna get a big fat contract from someone this offseason, likely Dallas. I don’t see how Jones lets him get away for nothing (although the new salary cap could tie the Cowboys’ hands severely). I’ve thought about the Giants offering him something, but a 27-year-old up-and-coming LT is gonna be pretty damn expensive.

The NFL and NFLPA? They can kiss my ass, OK? They can line up and kiss my ass.

Agree

I think Dallas showed in the draft that pass protection is a priority this year. There is no way they are letting Free walk and Smith start at LT with whoever at RT. They have players that can be cut to save money. A bunch of underperforming 1st rounders.

Doug Free does NOT have the potential of a william Beatty

not to mention Beatty played just as good in his starts.

I don't know about that.

This was Doug Free’s first year at LT, and even though he didn’t start off the year superbly… he ended the year awesomely. He got better at LT as the season continued. Will Beatty hasn’t shown us anything to make us believe that he has potential of being a top 5 LT.

Dallas has a weak Oline.

There’s no way he goes anywhere, IMO.

Just get it done already...

And Doug Free has???

are you kidding me?…… and Beatty didnt give up one sack in his five starts against very good DE’s so if thats not potential then i dont know what is.

Oh yea he practices against Kiwi, Osi, Tuck and JPP so something tells me he will get even better.

You can't say someone has more potential

when the guy can’t even get on the field. And it isn’t like we have someone like Jake Long preventing him from playing. We have one of the worst LTs in the league preventing him from playing.

I hope he gets better, but saying Beatty has more potential than a top LT is like saying Sintim has more potential than a top LB. Don’t let your fandom blind you.

by GoffAttack on Jun 24, 2011 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Him not getting on the field has nothing to do with him personally

I hate when everybody acts like coaches dont have their favorites for whatever reason…..Tom Coughlin is the Larry Brown of his sport, he doesnt really like putting young players on the fieldunless they have to be. David Diehl did not outplay Will Beatty, anyone with eyes can see that, he didnt out play Andrews either at that spot but they still kicked Shawn inside when Diehl was out there.

I dont let my fandom blind me but how in the hell are you calling Doug Free one of the top LT’s in the league?? have you gone stir crazy sir? i mean how many games do you have to play before we break out the annointing oil, he’s one of the top ones already?? really?

To me they are not far apart and Beatty gets the edge because he is the superior athlete, here’s something for your fandom, look at Beatty’s foot work compared to Free’s in both there limited action and you tell me if Free is so much more elite.

As for Sintim, getting on the field and being kept off when you are the best special teams player and deserved a shot is two different things but i guess you think that Bulluck did something that a one legged Sintim couldnt have done lol. lets be serious, they simply didnt want to piss a vet off who came to them for one position and was already shifted to a different one than he expected, Not to mention he was already mad about his snaps but i know my fandom has to be blinding me lol.

you remember when JR said Sintim needs to grow up?? im sure you do…….. but do you remember when he said “did he get a chance??” “Im not so sure he did” “he has to get on the field”….now if you cant see that was a little hint to coughlin, then i dont know what to tell you. Clearly JR is like me and cant see why is two second rounders dont get more playing time especially when they have earned it!!!……… Oh yea you can tell by our relentless effort to get a LT and a LB early in the draft, that clearly Sintim and Beatty both suck LMAO.

Im just messin with you but i urge you to open your eyes and realize that TC loves his vets and nothing wrong with that but sometimes its time to let go, but calll it what u want i have the ut most confidence in both Sintim and Beatty and i think they will show what they can do given the opportunity.

Fans have their favorites too.....

Just like fans like to praise Pat Flatherty for his great job putting together an offensive line, even when there are injuries……..but yet blame Tom Coughlin for the flaws in the offensive line.

If you looked at their newer article on pass blocking rb's

Bradshaw had the most passblocking snaps in teh league and was 2nd best in efficiency.

Ahmad is awesome.

Makes me want him even more.

But what would also make him more desirable,is if he can hold on to the ball. I love watching him run, but I always hold my breath.

He'll get better

I just wish the coaching staff had more time with him this summer. If they could fix Rhode’s brother (still not using his name), they can fix AB.

"Oh sir, the Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big "H". It was a most ripping victory."

Totally hear you.

I am a huge 44 fan and his pass blocking sometimes gets overlooked. He is great at it and I’m glad to see some metrics back up what I see every Sunday. But… he’s got to hold on to the damn ball.

Just get it done already...

I'd take Doug Free here

He’s probably better then an in his prime Diehl, which was good. Could imagine how good the Giants O would be in they had a LT that could block without half the US army helping him out. Also it’d force the Porks to use Tyron Smith at LT, which should be hilarious.

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

Imagine how that would affect Eli

He would feel much comfortable in the pocket, and I have to think that’s a reason why he had so many turnovers. He made the offensive line look pretty by getting the ball of early, but made himself look terrible by making bad decisions.

Hopefully Beatty will step up this season and play better than Diehl, but if the Giants don’t have faith in him… why not take a look at Free? And why not help out our D-Line for 2 games out of the season anyway?
