Offensive Line Poll: Who Should Start At Center

Here at Big Blue View, we talk about the New York Giants offensive line all the time. Chris Snee, the Pro Bowl right guard, has also been talking about the future of the aging line lately. So, let's spend the next few days figuring out what you guys think the 2011 line should look like.

The two linemen the Giants should be able to count on heading into the upcoming season are Snee at right guard and Kareem McKenzie at right tackle. The center position and the left side spots are, for reasons that include health, performance and contract status, up in the air.

So, over the next three days let's vote on those positions one-by-one.I will keep this to guys currently on the roster, not considering any free agents the Giants may sign eventually.

Today's we start with center. Who do you want to see as the starting center? Incumbent Shaun O'Hara, if he is healthy? Rich Seubert, who did a great job filling in a year ago? Again, if he is healthy. Adam Koets, who showed last season bnefore injuring a knee that he can at least do an adequate job? Kevin Boothe? Practice squad guy Jim Cordle?

Vote in the poll and let us know which guy you want snapping the ball to Eli Manning.

Can we use an *

I think O’Hara starts and Seubert goes back to G. That’s if both are 100% to start the year.
And this is only because I feel Seubert can slide to C if O’Hara falters or gets injured.

who I want?

a healthy O’hara.

who I think?
Adam Koets

why?
A healthy O’hara…i almost feel silly saying that
Seubert’s injury is the worse outta all three.

Forehead slap

Okay 3 of the guys are coming off major surgery, one has only played one game as a center and the other is on the practice squad, please tell me again why we did not draft a Center?

Please get well Shuan…

by Late for Dinner on Jun 21, 2011 12:18 PM EDT reply actions

Because you dont just draft people to say you drafted a position

Besides Pouncey, i wouldnt have drafted any C over the people we picked in any of the rounds before the 6th

watch pouncey bust anyway

Details of the operations of an interstate dog fighting ring were revealed, with some portions involving drugs and gambling. Gruesome details involving abuse, torture and execution of under-performing dogs ... He admitted to being involved in the destruction of 6–8 dogs, by hanging or drowning...

by Simms-McConkey on Jun 21, 2011 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Well he wont be a bust

He is very gifted and he now joins a very good offensive line who has a good OL coach. Alot of the times people become “busts” because of the situation they are in and the coaching they get and Pouncey is in heaven in his current situation.

I say give Petrus the chance at playing Center

I would love that, he is the next Snee, im telling you, even if they wanna move Snee inside, and let Mitch play Guard, that would be awesome.

O’Hara is getting older and Seubert just had a turribul injury

I think Seubert will be lucky to see the field this year. IR is likely IMO.

Richie will not be 100%

At least not until six games in. Can you say PUP?

That means TC starts Koets or Shaun – whomever is playing better. Halfway in, put Richie in there.

I really really hope that JR and TC know sonething we do not cuz from the outside this position is a mess.

Bring lawyers, guns and money to get me out of this one! Stand in the Fire.

by MSP Giant on Jun 21, 2011 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

If we're going to assume that all 3 are healthy

I think I vote Suebert or O’Hara. O’Hara had been playing well up until his misdiagnosed injury to start the season.

And you just can not count Richie Suebert out. He’s come back from worse.

by Raptor22 on Jun 21, 2011 12:45 PM EDT reply actions

Man, that’s turribul.

O’Hara gets it and plays well. I’m still more concerned with Left Tackle

by handle on Jun 21, 2011 12:49 PM EDT reply actions

There are free agent centers available

The Giants will get someone as a safety net but I’d like to see Koets get the job.

by GhostDini on Jun 21, 2011 1:02 PM EDT reply actions

Wouldn't surprise me if there were a bunch of unexpected free agents

The talks are getting serious. The owners have brought in GMs to scope out how they are going to move forward with season.

Expect a new cap and a bunch of guys going free at the same time. With any luck we get a C and a LB.

the newest rumors are that we're going back to 2010 FA rules.

One name that I’m looking at is Lyle Sendlein, C of the Arizona Cardinals. Won’t ask (hopefully) for a monster contract, but is pretty damn underrated.

Jim Cordle

Has the potential to be a Hall of Famer…. Seriously, I never heard of him. Man, we need to draft a center next year. Can’t Mitch Petrus learn how to snap a football?

by TheGifford on Jun 21, 2011 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

Petrus!

this sounds like a good idea. Then you can slide Diehl over to LG, where he should be playing and let Beatty (or andrews, i guess) play LT.

by Matt dubs on Jun 21, 2011 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Having three potential starters is not that bad

Yes, they are not all Centers, but Koets and Rich especially,
did great filling in for O hara. However, I think it’s going to take
a lot to convince O hara that he shouldn’t be starting

by KumaBlue42 on Jun 21, 2011 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

I want Seubert to start

because when he was Center our running game was the best in football.

Even though Coughlin may not realize that, I just hope he doesn’t hand the job to O’Hara. If we have a training camp, everyone on the o-line, except Snee, Seubert and Mckenzie, should be fighting for the starting spot.

by GoffAttack on Jun 21, 2011 2:24 PM EDT reply actions

Yea Rich

Played waaaaaaay better than Shawn but the love that TC has for that group as well as the love they have for eachother is going to make any O line changes without injury damn near impossible.

by Blue Gates on Jun 21, 2011 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think TC has that much love for them

He did say during the rookie combines that we need a Center.

I just hope he doesn’t hand the job over to O’Hara because he’s the only proven player. Maybe I’m underestimating Coughlin a bit. After all it’s a must win season this year and I expect him to pull out all the stops.

by GoffAttack on Jun 21, 2011 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Last time

it was “must win” for TC we won it all. And I agree, I hope he doesn’t just hand the job to O’Hara. His skills are eroding rapidly, me thinks.

Just get it done already...

by tommy d. on Jun 21, 2011 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I am shocked...

…so many people voted for O’Hara!
When he was healthy in 2009 our running game sucked the entire year!

When he was healthy in 2010 (the brief period that he was), the running game that was previously rolling along, ground to a halt.

I would like to see anyone under Center not named O’Hara in 2011 (Lord-willing there’s a season).

by Masakari on Jun 21, 2011 3:44 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

so true

I hope Coughlin realizes this. I never realized how important the Center position was until O’Hara was out of the line up, and I valued it even more when Seubert started there.

As someone once said, ‘at this point in O’Hara’s career, he’s nothing more than a Human Turnstile.’

Yea more veteran love from TC but im going to keep saying it

until im blue in the face, i dont care about your age if you can out perform the person behind you but there are a few people who did not do anything that the person behind them couldnt have done even better last year and they are David Diehl (Beatty)…..Bulluck (sintim)….. Ohara (Seubert/Petrus/Koets/who the hell ever).

I mean it has to ne Rich

if you ask me, he played the best center when he was healthy, O hara struggled even when he was fine, if he can get back to his “old self” instead of his old self! then of course its Shawn.

I really dont care who starts at Center as long as Diehl doesnt start at LT….that BS has to stop here for real.

A twist on that old baseball cliche

If you have five possible centers, you probably don’t have one.
I expect a free agent for some quality depth until they see how many of these guys can still play effectively.

who do you want?

O’Hara. I want him to be ealthy. Theefore the best anchor for that line.

Only disappointed to see Seubert not in 2nd place. He was just about this team’s MVP last year.

All Giants fans are grateful for Seubert's contribution last year

but we’re also cognizant of what Koets did and could possibly do in the future. He’s younger and has room to grow.

by GhostDini on Jun 21, 2011 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I don't understand why people are even voting for him.

I thought it was painfully (pun intended) obvious how catastrophic his leg injury was. He’s not playing this year. If he could, I would have definitely voted for him.

by tommy d. on Jun 21, 2011 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

that's my thinking

personally I think a Healthy Richie Seubert > Koets

in fact…even though I think Koets is in the best position to win the job…I’m also not totally sold that he is your ideal starting Center

The only reason I say this is b/c I think he could stand to get stronger, especially in his upper body.

my head still tells me though

that O’hara is probably going to deal w/ injuries issues all season long

and Seubert won’t be healthy enough to be effective.

so by Default…it’s Koets.

but when they’re all healthy….I put Koets at the back of the line.

Anyone read Pro Football Focus?

O’Hara was rated as bottom 5 centers in the NFL last year. Agreed that all options are less than optimal. Agree that Diehl needs to come off that left tackle spot as #1 priority. Andrews is a huge ??? If he could hack it, life would be better. But it might be Beatty, Petrus, Seubert.

by TallWriter62 on Jun 21, 2011 6:39 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

Work Petrus in for Diehl, if necessary. Brewer is a project so they might need to get another backup tackle.

by GhostDini on Jun 21, 2011 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Brewer could be future RT

I think they’re hoping this is the year that Beatty can get it done and be LT and then groom Brewer as Mack’s replacement in a year or 2. I don’t think Petrus is ready to start so him and Boothe are flex G backups.

I will definitely find a way to get Mitch Petrus in there…the guy has a crazy motor and likes to lay the lumber…Last year I dont know what game it was, on the sidelines, he looked like he had just drank 10 galons of coffee! Mitch was wired! AND he did a helluva job!
