2011 NFL Draft, Round 3: Giants Select Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy

The New York Giants selected Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy, with their third-round selection (83rd overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft. I can hear those of you insisting that the Giants absolutely had to draft a linebacker or a center screaming already, even though we know little to nothing about this guy.

Jernigan is a 5-foot-8, 185-pound receiver/return man. Here is a quick scouting report from Draft Countdown:

Best fit at the next level might come as a slot receiver and return specialist who can also be utilized in the Wildcat and on reverses --- Dynamic all-purpose playmaker who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball from anywhere on the field --- Just may be a bigger,  much faster version of Dexter McCluster.

Still would be nice to get a linebacker and a center, but let's just see what happens. Your thoughts?

huh sketchy,

would maybe like the pick if we didn’t have the creative offensive genius that is Kevin Gilbride as our OC

I see Blue, he looks glorious!

Hey

at least we have a return guy now. That was sorely lacking last year, and it can be a huge advantage.

by WreckinCrew56-55-53-58 on Apr 29, 2011 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, that depends

With the new KO rules, KR’s seem not so important, unless he can do punts?!

by Hootman on Apr 29, 2011 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

At first I was kinda annoyed and mad

But given this guys physical skills and pure speed I am happy with it. We still have free agency eventually to fill gaps as a safety net. We desperately needed an all out speed guy. We needed speed on both sides of the ball which we now have with Jernigan and Amukamara.

At that size...

He better be 4.3 or he’s gonna get killed (or just suck like Sinorice)

WalterFootball

Calls it another steal for Reese, but mentions something about Steve Smith possibly not playing next year? I haven’t been keeping tabs on injuries, is something up with Steve?

I like the pick if he’s got good hands and return ability, but I don’t want another Sinorice Moss.

by Branta on Apr 29, 2011 9:46 PM EDT reply actions

His injury and surgery were tougher than initially reported

But I think it’s about how they struggled to make big plays.

This guy is a scatter bug. Makes cuts at full speed and if you miss him he’s gone.

SPEED

Giants don’t have a player like this on the team. He’s an all-purpose player that did everything for Troy

He’s a tough little bastard that seems like Steve Smith coming out of Utah. If he can be half as good as SS89, I doubt anyone will care about a LBzez.

Came out of LF tho, but Vacchiano/Garafolo said Jernigan’s a dude they like in the 2nd round.

But if you put otu of mind the perceived need for a LB/OL, Jernigan’s an explosive player who give the Giants they absolutely have zero of: A player that can take it to the house on any possession (well..aside from Amukamara of course)

But he can still make an impact, especially for a guy like Eli who saw a lot of balls get tipped and picked off. Never hurts to have a veteran receiver.

Agreed

The Giants lack a slippery player maker like Jernigan. It will be nice to have that type threat on the field. I love the fact that we may have a legit return man now.

I think Reese decided that there wasn't anything there....

at linebacker that was any better than what we had already, and if he upgrades the position (it needs it), it’ll be via free agency. I’m not sure we’re as totally needy at the offensive line as is generally talked about, and we may yet make an addition there tomorrow.

nothin against Jernigan

but at some point we have to address the LB issues. Reese just ignores the position every year until the 4th round at the earliest and we are simply not going to find the impact players we need that late.

Good pick Giants need a return man. It’s a NEED and value pick.

I actually would say it is.

LB is weak, but we still have Boley, Sintim, and Goff for (tentative) starters with Wilkerson, Dillard, and possibly even Tracy as backups plus any late rounders we get. All of serviceable.

OL is great, but injury prone. We have William Beatty, Mitch Petrus, and Adam Koets all ready to fight for starting spots. Late round OL aren’t hard to find.

KR though? Our return game is abysmal. Admittedly the new kick off rules do degrade the position quite a bit, but getting a great kick returner is a big gain. Will Jernigan be that guy? Who knows, but we probably did get an upgrade to our weakest area. Even if we want new blood for LB and OL, the fact is we have nobody ready to step into KR.

this guy can play the slot if SS is still injured. Also, he can return punts and kickoffs, if our special teams block for him. LBs not exciting, we can get guard or centers in the next rounds or in FA.

I'll grant you that Foster is a football player...

But nobody took him before our pick, as he’s a bit slow and projects with question marks, and thus is a whole lot like a handful of linebackers we already have on the roster. There just isn’t a huge valley between Foster’s projection and that of what we already have.

Not for nothing

but our “Joker” packages kind of relegate the need for a playmaking LB from any of the slots. Most of our pressure is generated from the box with an emphasis on secondary isolation. Save for an injury to our best cover LB ( Boley ), we’re not in as bad a shape as most are making it out to be.

Boley is average at best

When a passing down comes we have to take our Middle linebacker out of the game becasue he can’t cover. We need help. On top of that do you realize we the whole left side or our offensive line including the center position is in limbo, we won’t be able to run on anybody the backups don’t step up and be productive.

JR has yet to walk us into a season

unprepared at any position in terms of starting depth/quality. I doubt he doesn’t have a plan in place to address the O-line. Regarding Goff, I don’t know what games you were watching but Goff was in our base D regardless of the coverages short of full on spread sets. He’s not below league average in the expectancy of coverage aspects of a MLB as you seem to be implying. Its like screaming at a work truck hauling its payload for not mowing down the 1/4 mile at the track under 15 seconds.

If you read

MG’s article, you’ll feel much better about Austin:

""It was an extremely humbling experience to going from being one of the top players in the country to being a guy nobody wants to talk about and stuff like that," Austin said. “I just learned that hard work will pay off. This is what I want to do, and when I get to the facility I’m going to bust my tail.”

Coughlin said the Giants were advised Austin won’t be an issue for them as long as they set up “borders” for him – i.e. he’s on a tight leash. When asked if the team will give Austin the same kind of talk Reese gave Ahmad Bradshaw when he was drafted, Coughlin replied, “Absolutely.”

But there’s an upside to Austin’s attitude, apparently: an on-field demeanor Reese compared to former Giants defensive tackle Keith Hamilton.

“He’s got a nasty motor, a mean demeanor about him,” Reese said of Austin, who had nine sacks in three seasons with the Tar Heels. “He’s going to bring that nasty attitude. … I like to have some big, nasty guys in your front. I kind of like that.”

Haterade.

This draft is going to put the BPA Theory to a very stern test. An undisciplined cb in the first (I HATE cbs in the first) a head case in the second (NYC and that kid? What could go wrong?) and a small-school wr/kr (on a Tom Coughlin/Killdrive- coached team that has no idea how to use one) in the third? I know a lot of you are enjoying the Ed Valentine Think Positivepalooza, but me, I still think we need a multiple-expletives-deleted linebacker.

I think his best signings were AP (even though Ernie really signed him) and Mitchell. Everything else has been pretty bad. JR has drafteed 4 LB’s as GM only one in the 2nd the rest are 4th or 5th round players. Even if we didn’t find an LB how about going after an O-lineman another weakness, we don’t even know if we are going to have a center at this point.

I dunno

I just don’t see “drafting a LB in the first 3 rounds” as any different then “patchwork”, considering who’s there.

Maybe Wilson or Foster are more then that, and that’s fine. But maybe they’re not. Obviously the people that do more work then any of us felt that the LBs available, although they met a need, weren’t better then who’s on the roster.

Much easier to see with the Ols too..this year’s class was very mediocre (Tyron Smith went top 10…lol).

The pass rush talent we have invested

so heavily in on the ends and with our defensive playbook literally built around the theorem, LB’s are not the eye sore that alot of us are making it out to be. The relevance of having a player of Prince’s caliber fall into our laps is a God send that not a single person in the profession scout or blog blabber could have predicted for us. The draft is addressing functional needs that go beyond the aesthetics that you’re crying bullshit about.

At first I thought oh no but giving it more thought you gotta respect the thinking and let it grow on you. We have needs of course but this pick makes great sense. He is arguably the best return man in this draft as well as a dynamic slot receiver. Be thankful and greatful we have Jerry Reese.

bpa. even if that best player available is the most stacked and talented position on our roster

but jernigan is a more versatile weapon and can contribute in the return game. if they feel its worth passing on a linebacker, so be it

for those praising this pick based on it being a BPA

Scouts Inc. had Jernigan as #74 overall and Mason Foster (who went right after our pick) as the 56th best player. Seems like Foster would have been better value and filled a need.

by bdiggle25 on Apr 29, 2011 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

great point

lots of mocks had him as a 2nd round talent. foster was just as much great value as jernigan. i think theyre both going to be great players in the nfl, but in our case foster would’ve been slightly better

BUT if were NOT going to draft foster i am happy it was with jernigan than say some TE

by Nfpdawg on Apr 29, 2011 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

cherry picking one site doesn't really help

Some sites had Jerrnigan as one of the 5 best WRs in the draft and a 2nd round pick.

i know im just making a point

saying this was a great pick because it was BPA doesnt make a ton of sense when other players available that would have filled needs had similar value…dont get me wrong I like Jernigan, I just felt LB should have been addressed and since Foster was arguably a higher rated player than Jernigan, Foster may have been a better pick

by bdiggle25 on Apr 29, 2011 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Well..we don't know what Reese's board looks like

We dont know what their board looked like so if he had Jernigan rated highly then thats fine. I just think some people are trying to rationalize the pick (again, I do like Jernigan) by saying it was BPA when we dont really know what kinda board Reese has.

by bdiggle25 on Apr 29, 2011 10:49 PM EDT up reply actions

If I cared what Scouts INC does

But don’t.

Foster is a solid prospect, but he’s not going to light the world on frie with his speed and athletic ability.

I like him a lot

But he’s not covering LeSean McCoy out of the backfield or blowing up the run or sacking the Qb.

He’s a smart, instinctive tackling machine., but al ot of opportunities because defense was terrible. IE a lot of meaningless tackles

Like Foster, but he’s not a top 60 player. .

by EliManCrushing on Apr 29, 2011 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions

ive watched tons of games of foster

aside from his game against oregon, his tackles were NOT meaningless at all after big plays.

you can say something bad about jernigan too, you think hes going to light the world on fire with his size and frail build — going to get off press coverage?

theres negatives about every player, that doesnt mean they’re not a top prospect. mason foster isnt as athletic as bruce carter but so much more instinctive and productive.

by Nfpdawg on Apr 29, 2011 10:49 PM EDT up reply actions

by Matt V on Apr 29, 2011 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

NFL.com on Jernigan
Pick Analysis: The Giants grab a terrific slot receiver with their selection of Jernigan. He is a crafty inside receiver with the rare ability to separate from coverage in tight areas. He will contribute as a receiver/returner immediately before working his way into the rotation as a consistent performer.

Last year same thing, and the year before that too. Everyboyd keep saying how we don’t really need LB’s and how every year the LB’s are no good. Than the season starts and what ever over the hill LB JR signed looks old an slow, and Boley starts taking bad angles to the ball as well as not covering the gap he is supposed to be in and everyone starts saying man our LB’s suck… We got to get some LB’s than the draft comes JR picks a couple of lineman a Safter and CB and some WR’s and we all go gaga over them. According to whom? In ‘08 the Giants had arguably the best line in the league, in ’09 they weren’t that far off either. It is in 2010 that injuries plagued the line.

Even then, that Oline was nowhere near horrible…except for when Diehl and O’Hara were plugged back in…MY GOD COUGHLIN!

We got our guy in Jernigan and only 1 season removed you guys are all piss n’ vinegar over making a near steal pick of a comparable talent to the aforementioned in the 3rd round? Seriously?

Koets was the center for three weeks last year

We didn’t skip a goddamn beat.

Petrus moved to guard against the Hawks, we ran the ball for 12 minutes straight.

Beatty played for several weeks late in the year, didn’t allow a sack if memory serves.

I like our YOUNG backups. And apparently, so does Jerry.

and the “little injury” thing for Shawn Andrews was kinda not “little” in that he had a ruptured Lumbar Disc in his history which I don’t care how many years you’re removed from it. That is a life long injury that is life altering to say the least, let alone a career detriment.

and he should be better this year after a full year of playing experience.

by Matt V on Apr 29, 2011 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

What happens if...

Well, if he is only passable like last year, the D as a whole will be improved with The Prince. And with Austin we can afford to let Barry walk and sign a FA LB or OL. Dillard and Tracy I think will be decent depth guys.

by Matt V on Apr 29, 2011 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay that's a lot of assumptions there

First off Prince is a rookie anything we get out of him this year is a bonus don’t count on it though. Austin has not played in a year and you think he is going to see the field this season. how many time did Linval play last season? Barry has a SB ring and we know he can play. What FA LB is out there, most of the good ones are staying put. Dillard and Tracy are late round picks maybe they turn into somthing but there is more of a chance they don’t … Just saying

by Late for Dinner on Apr 29, 2011 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Not really.

If you’re all worried about pass D and covering tight ends and 3rd (and 4th) WR’s, then Prince will definitely be a big upgrade regardless of who the starter is. He’ll be top 3 CB this year at worst. Austin will be a back-up and Linval and Canty will start. In the obvious passing downs, I’d rather have extra CBs and Ss on the field over LBs anyway.

by Matt V on Apr 29, 2011 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Goff is okay

Is he our MLB, I certainly don’t think he has locked up the position.

by Late for Dinner on Apr 29, 2011 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

He was better than anyone thought he was going to be

FAR from suck.

We have quite a few LBers on this roster who have yet to get an opportunity that could also be FAR from suck.

When we last won the Bowl in ‘07…we didn’t have a SINGLE elite LBer, nor did we have a single LBer that was even AVERAGE in coverage. It’s not the end all be all for this defense.

So to go on a tangent about how all this defense has is shitty LBers is simply untrue.

I don't always hope for draft picks, but when I do, I prefer Owen Marecic.

by tito (eight and oh) on Apr 29, 2011 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Never said Goff sucked

But let’s be real Goff flashed but he was a liability on passing downs to the point of he had to come off the field unacceptable for a MLB. Maybe Goff improves but what happens if he does not, you don’t think we should make him compete for the position?

As for 07 AP might not have been elite but he was pretty darn good and set up our whole D on the field. When he ran out of gas and than went down with the neck we have yet to find a replacement.

by Late for Dinner on Apr 29, 2011 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

You never said Goff sucked...

But you failed to mention that he was a pleasant surprise in the middle of your ground hog day metaphor. Thought it was worth bringing up.

You say what if Goff doesn’t improve, I say what if he does? Not only what if he does, but what if Dillard, Tracy, and Sintim all pan out?

We just don’t know yet.

In my heart I hope so too.

However as a pragmatic fan, I believe in players that are not proven should have to compete for their jobs, and Goff has not reached the level where I am comfortable saying yes he is our MLB. I hope Goff proves me wrong of course however I don’t think he has shown enough.

by Late for Dinner on Apr 29, 2011 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I remember Kiper mentioning him at the start of the Draft tonight, seems pretty high on him as a top 10 WR. I don’t mind going WR really, but I was hoping for more taller threat that we haven’t had since the shot heard round NYC. Still, we could def use a return man, and this guy does seem to have the explosiveness to make big plays. Guess JR wasn’t sold on Victor Cruz. lol

As fo Jerbigan, ur QB is not a ery acurate QB-he gets his % up by throwing a lot of
short passes because he can’t make the mid range or long pass with any degree

Let's see

If you read my Tampa 2 FanPost, you’d know that when the Giants play zone, they play off at 4-yard and 9-yard clips. That means Prince is right in line in that regard. He’s also an excellent press CB so he can handle that.

Eli doesn’t throw a lot of short passes. He was 9th in the NFL yards gained per pass attempt. You don’t do that by throwing short passes. He was ahead of Brees, Peyton, Favre, Hasselback, Ryan, Flacco, Cassel, and Palmer.

Lastly, Bradshaw was 23rd in YAC, Manningham was 36th, and Nicks was 52nd. There weren’t a lot of 5-yard passes for big gains.

My point is your clueless.

Upgrading the position made the team better.

That is an accomplishment. That’s the whole point. That’s what JR has done so far in this draft, too. This team is a lot better than it was 3 days ago. You’re so hell-bent on OL and LB that you refuse to admit the truth.

I said

Again, no linebacker with six picks on defense

The Giants spent the first four picks in last year’s draft on defense (Pierre Paul, Joseph, Jones, and Dillard) and the first two picks this year on defense (Amukamara and Austin) and NOT one on a single linebacker!

what if Amukamara was a LB?

I mean we all know he’s a CB, but if we just called him a LB is that OK? Cuz it seems that regardless of the fact that the Giants didn’t exactly pass on any GOOD LB, the idea of simply drafting an LB is all that really matters.

So here goes:

1) Prince Amukamara LB Nebraska
2) Marvin Austin LB UNC
3) Jerel Jernigan LB Troy

My take on LBs

I’d like to see us draft a great LB, too, but each of the past two years have been thin on great LB prospects. We know you gotta go BPA, and we didn’t have high enough picks to get the guys we wanted. And by the time we were making our picks, we went with who was rated highest on our board.

Still, I would have liked to grab Foster. But who knows. Maybe Sintim or Dillard will be ready to break out, and maybe Jernigan will be our DeSean Jackson or Dez Bryant. Minus the whole getting kicked out of malls and celebrating before crossing the goal line things.

by YankeeDudeL on Apr 30, 2011 12:13 AM EDT reply actions

My thoughts

Absolutely awesome we got Austin.

Sad that it means Cofield is practically gone, but maybe we can trade him for picks now when we can again?
Happy with this pick

the third round pick, not so much. I understand why he was picked, and begrudgingly accept it, but I really do think Mason would help us more.

But hey, that’s why I’m posting here instead of bringing in the big bucks

Marvin Austin

Reminds me of when we chose Mario Manningham at the bottom of the third because of character issues.

by gmen2thebowl on Apr 30, 2011 12:34 AM EDT reply actions

So anyway

Love the Prince pick

Hate the Marvin Austin pick beacuse he’s boom or bust. dont like those risky players

And I love the Jerigan pick IF we make it up with a LB in FA/rounds 4-7 and not go into 2012 with bulluck, goff, and boley again

by Nfpdawg on Apr 30, 2011 12:39 AM EDT reply actions

What about Austin's play makes him boom or bust?

Marvin a boom or bust? What makes you say that? I would really like to know why you think that.

No

His work ethic is actually amazing and all reports say he doesn’t let up on plays.

If his work ethic was anything short of amazing he would be way overweight and nobody would pick him

by xs0ng on Apr 30, 2011 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, from what I saw he was always hustling down the field

But every character guy is a boom or bust apparently. Not like the stuff he did was that bad either, nothing thug like, just immature. I think that not playing football for a year will have taught him a lesson as well.

Austin was suspended for all of last season because of a violation of team rules as well as improper contact with agents. That came after he was cited for a misdemeanor noise ordinance violation, a driving without registration citation, a citation for improper window tinting and a two-game suspension in 2009 for arriving late to class.

by mclaren_is_the_best on Apr 30, 2011 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Seriously man

So the kid had his music on too loud, drove without a registration citation, and his windows were tinted so that means he has character issues? I understand the agent thing, but because of mistake to label someone with character issues is irresponsible and beyond stupid

by xs0ng on Apr 30, 2011 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions

That is what I'm saying

He’s not a thug, all the “bad” things about him are quite normal for any 20 year old kid.

by mclaren_is_the_best on Apr 30, 2011 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions

No offense but all that stuff is bullshit

A noise violation? Windows too tinted? It’s not like he was caught with a gun or failed drug tests? Dude was chillin his his whip bumpin some tunes for the hoochies. Ain’t nuthin wrong with that.

Where is this coming from? Who said this kid is lazy and doesn't go hard on the field?

That doesn’t come from Butch Davis so who is stating this lazy story? This kid didn’t finish no less than 2nd in every drill at the NFL combine. If that is his lazy then we are good to go

He

never had character issues. he’s not disrespectful, he doesn’t go out and get wasted then drive a car, he doesn’t hang out with thugs. He made one mistake and he’s over that, watch his OTL report you can’t fake that.

He’s a good kid who made a bad mistake.

he has amazing work ethic, are you serious?

dude his entire reputation at UNC has been because of huge character issues and motivation issues.

HOWEVER, this offseason hes shown to have great work ethic. people are concerned hes only doing it for a paycheck and not because hes changed. i hope its the former

by Nfpdawg on Apr 30, 2011 1:04 AM EDT reply actions

Who the hell doesn't do what they call a living

for a paycheck? A person getting slandered with the “character flaw” tag at his age and situation only means that a deeper investigation gets triggered by a serious suitor. Everyone is young and immature at some point in their lives. People move on and with the right things in place, they rise above these trivial things called labels. JR and his staff personally consulted and addressed whatever issues on this guy who seems to be nothing more than a technicality issue that fell victim to a systematically crooked program. While scholarships are a blessing as it is, collegiate athletes should be compensated for the heaping piles of revenue they generate. Regardless of intent on what they plan on doing with their scholastic endeavors, no regular part of a student body is required to adhere to the astonishing physical demands placed on them like a D1 NCAA football player. And not for nothing but I’m guessing that this kid didn’t exactly have the easiest time growing up with as candid his mother was when she was interviewed. Congratulations Marvin Austin and welcome to the good life young man, I have high hopes for you!!

I threw away laziness rumors out the window

after the combine, I said I like this kid he showed up to show these scouts how much of a beast he is, He got a year off hes as healthy as possible and after watching OTL hes DEFINITELY in the best shape hes ever been in. After watching that,it just made me like Reese and his crew even more, man we might’ve found a BEAST in the bottom of the second round.WOW

I don't think a player who's in the shape Austin is

and took a year off of football, can have his motivation questioned.

If he was a motivational issue, he’d be 500lbs and have moobs down to the floor

For some reason reply button not working

@Wright of passage

You obviously dont understand how people with bad character think. Austin throughout his career has been known as a me-first palyer with a questionable attitude, takes cheap shots, and doesnt play with consistent motivation and effort. That’s why this sudden new guy thats been shown in this draft offseason can be seen as ingenuine and that he is just now turning it on because he wants a paycheck (yeah, no crap, that’s what you want of course) but will just turn off his motor again once its over. But you see — that’s where I hope I’m wrong, I hope he has really changed and this new marvin austin is a changed character from his past and is now a guy with great work ethic. But I can also be skeptical to believe there’s a chance that’s not true.

by Nfpdawg on Apr 30, 2011 2:25 AM EDT reply actions

Wow

I can’t claim to be a professional judge of character or talent, but he doesn’t seem like a thug or a malcontent at all. He actually comes off as a pretty smart kid who is actually pretty well spoken and understands how the whole college recruiting system works. He doesn’t sound like one of those guys you would associate with only looking for a paycheck or a quick score. In that OTL interview he came off as a man. Not a boy who is influenced by those around him or agents controlling him like a puppet.. He looks like and talks like a man who is ready to play football professionally and hurt some dudes. I like the pick.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I'm with you on this one

Also, Even if he was the most lazy player in the world I think what he lost after being dismissed from UNC football was the best thing for this kid’s future. He obviously loves the game and realizes how close he came to losing this opportunity. I think he’s dead serious about football if only because he came so close to losing it.

sigh...

NY Giants have the best draft in the NFC East so far

Would you trade our picks for the picks of our division competitors? We are picking up guys who should have been picked much earlier and not because of injuries. I think Jerry Reese is doing a masterful job.

Is it possible the coaches know our OL and LBs have some developing or recovering players who will be good? Petrus, Dillard, etc? Also, maybe LB is the defensive version of Rb, not that highly valued. Of course, would not mind having Clay Matthews.

by scarlet knight on Apr 30, 2011 5:36 AM EDT reply actions

People

need to stop jumping on CASEY Matthews. He’s a Chase Blackburn 2.0. Good Special Teams, nice bench player.

The only reason people like him is cuz they think for some reason he’s similar to Clay.

by xs0ng on Apr 30, 2011 6:12 AM EDT up reply actions

agreed

I don’t like him either.

Rather have Mario Harvey

by Rorschach44 on Apr 30, 2011 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions

The Giants defense will be better, but the area of need going into the draft was OL and LB

Look, all of those players picked are high value picks who should have been picked higher.

And I the Giants defense will be improved as long as the players play—Joseph hardly played last season. What’s the point if our first round picks and second round picks don’t start (i.e. Paul, Joseph, and now Austin)?

And even if there wasn’t a linebacker worth drafting in any particular spot, the Giants could have moved up to take one (Carter in the second).

And I would have liked the Giants to have drafted Foster in the third and drafted a return man in the 4th. But Cannon (OL) and Sturdivant and Wright (LBs) would be nice in the 4th.

by DVGray on Apr 30, 2011 7:27 AM EDT reply actions

I think we will see much more of JPP and Joseph this year

We’ll see more and more of Austin as the “season” moves on.

Athletetic players needed

Along with there more well known needs, the giants did need to add more athletic speedy players to help the return game and special teams. Let’s hope sturdivant or herzlich falls to the giants in the 4th round.
