There is a big chance that your teams 1st round pick will be a bust.

Close to 1 in 3 or exactly 29% of all players drafted in the first round in the ten year span of 1999 thru 2008 have been outright failures in the NFL and there are many more that some would consider busts but I was being conservative as to not have total revisionist history, so I took the players who that if you saw their names would make you say, "definite bust". Examples of busts after the jump.

In the 1999 NFL Draft, I found that 11 out of the 31 first round picks that year were busts. Looking down the list of players I concluded that the number one overall pick Tim Couch, #3 Akili Smith, #9 Chris Claiborne, #12 Cade McNown, #13 Troy Edwards, #22 Lamar King, #24 Reggie McGrew, #25 Antuan Edwards, #27 Aaron Gibson, #28 Andy Katzenmoyer and #29 Demetrius Underwood. 10 picks out of 31 were busts in 2000, 9 out of 31 in 2001, 11 out of 32 in 2002, 12 out of 32 in 2003, 8 out of 32 in 2004, 7 out of 32 in 2005, 7 out of 32 in 2006, 10 out of 32 in 2007 and 6 out of 32 in 2008. I purposely stopped there because if is too soon to tell with the 2009 and 2010 draft classes. Now that player that you may love right now for your team has a high probability of not performing to the high standard that you would expect from a high draft pick. Look over the names in every mock that you have created and/or looked at and realize that many of these players are going to be garbage. Who are the players that would most surprise you if they went bust in a matter of years?
