Who do you want in Rounds 1 and 2?

Tell us your ideal Day 1 scenario.  What players do you want standing next to good old Roger represeting the Giants?  If you want us to trade up, give us the exact scenario.  if you want us to trade down, give us the exact scenario.

Star-divide

Mine is quite simple, but Im going to tell you why the Giants need these two guys, and not who they are.  Everyone knows who Akeem Ayers is and what he brings to the table by now.  Ill tell why the Giants need him in the first round.

It is no secret that we cannot cover the short pass no matter where they are.  We get beat in the flats, in the middle, in the hook zones, just about anywhere on the field that is regularly defended by a linebacker.  This is a problem that we have had since Jessie Armstead was in town, and even then we sucked at it.  Well not anymore.  With their first pick, the Giants will put the foundation down for a playmaking, pass defending linbacking corp that will be led by Akeem Ayers for years to come.  No more will we have to watch in agony as the Eagles run the same play 15 times against us and get 20 yards everytime.  Never again will we watch Jason Witten run wild in our secondary.  No sir.  With Akeem Ayers we can actually leave our 3rd safety on the sidelines like a real defense, and match up correctly with opposing offenses.  We wont get dominated by Lesean McCoy draw plays or Felix Jones swing passes.  Jason Witten will actually have a man in his face when he runs those 10 yard hitches right up the middle of the field.  How do I know this? Because Akeem Ayers is fast as hell, athletic as hell, sepcializes in pass coverage, and he creates turnovers.  Nuff said.

So after we draft the next great Giants linebacker and he takes a few pics to show off those great diamond studs in his ears, (if you havnt seen, Akeem Ayers is quite a flashy lookin dude and looks like he would fit in just fine in New York) we turn our attention to the other side of the ball.

We have playmakers all over the place on offense.  Receivers are just fine, and once Ahmad Bradshaw gets his money the runningbacks will be fine also.  Shaun O'Hara is the man and so is Rich Seubert.  They will both be ready to go opening day and regardless of when they both go down in the middle of the season, (yes I am predicting both of these guys to get hurt this eyar) will be starting with the same front five that we have for the past 7 seasons or so.  However, when one of these two goes down, our 2nd round pick will be ready to step in and cement his place as the next interior rock blowin holes open for Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.  That 2nd round pick can play either center or guard, and that is why we dont take the bait and draft the OTHER Pouncey who wont even live up to any hype, and have a dissapointing career while his brother wins super bowls.  The guy that Jerry Reese is gonna take in the 2nd round will make him look like a genius because he will actually be the best center taken in this draft.  His name is Rodney Hudson, and with some time on the bench behind all these veterans, he is going to get some awesome experience before he gets thrown to the dogs.  The Giants are known for moving guys around on the line, as these guys pretty much play all 3 offensive line positions depending on the situation.  Rodney Hudson is a beast and will be able to go in for either O'hara or Seubert.

What an amazing first two rounds.

Smith and Ayers

or Ingram and Wiz.

Prove me wrong TC.

19 may be to high for Ayers but i wouldnt mind him

Pouncey (who i dont think makes it to 19 at all) would be ideal. but i will go.

Houston and Dowling

Pouncey and Wiz...

Nah but for real, Pouncey and Carter. I feel like Bruce Carter is going to make a lot of people regret passing on him due to his injury, and I hope he does it as a Giant

by #56 4life on Apr 25, 2011 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

I agree

He will make them regret it but i also know he will probably begin the season on PUP or not play at all b,ut for a team like the Giants who in my opinion can draft him and wait on him, he would be excellent, but some teams simply cannot afford to take someone in the top 2 rounds and wait on them to produce or see the field. In a perfect world Bruce carter is a top 15 pick that every team can use but alot more goes into it than that. I would love him though and i think we have the capacity to give him a year to recover fully.

you could do worse than Pouncey and Wis'

Bruce is still intriguing,tho
I’d rather just get guys that can sustain drives and keep the defense off of the field and punish the good teams. Not just run on bad teams!
Pound ’em all and set up playaction

Yeah as an OL for my team, I always believe the more Lineman the better

but realistically JR wouldn’t draft 2 Linemen in the first two rounds, hell he might not draft a lineman in the first 5 rounds. But you are right, good ol Giants football needs some badass linemen that wears out defenses and then Eli has all day on the PA

beautiful 1st round pick

2nd round, love Hudson as a prospect, but he’s slightly undersized in my opinion. He’s absolutely perfect for a ZBS, but doesn’t have the anchor and strength for a power running scheme with pulling

Final Dream Draft

1) Akeem Ayers, OLB
2) Marvin Austin, DT
3) Jake Kirkpatrick, OC
4) Chimdi Chekwa, CB
6) Henry Hynoski, FB
6) Jarriel King, OT
6) Josh Bynes, ILB
7) Ricardo Lockette, KR/PR

GREAT INTRODUCTION

for Akeem Ayers! I’m all over that pick. Second round has to be either a versatile O-lineman or a corner cause there is gonna be alot of value at corner in the second round IMO.

1. Cameron Jordan or Muhammad Wilkerson
2. Bruce Carter, Danny Watkins or Christian Ponder (We need someone to challenge Eli for his spot, because I think he’s feeling too damn comfortable. That’s why he’s sucking more than usual.)

Rex Ryan... I salute you!

by jdaking123 on Apr 25, 2011 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

We're still going to use 3 Safeties.

That’s unique to our team and I like it. Our 3rd Safety caught 3 interceptions, forced 2 fumbles, recovered 3 and had a sack.

Your reason for drafting Ayers “be’s” stupid. Michael Boley is a coverage player and Leson and That Cowgurls TE still shit on us. That plan is stupid.

Rex Ryan... I salute you!

by jdaking123 on Apr 25, 2011 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

i hate it

i feel like yes we do create some extra turnovers, but we give up more yards on a play by play basis by having only 2 LBs and 3 safetys. And deon grant is probably not gonna be around. You want michael johnson on the field again? NO…. we need to grab an LB that will be a top 15 LB in this league because we do not have one. Boley is top 50 at best. Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips cant be playin at the LOS they are way too good as free roamers to be stackin the box every play. If we had solid pass coverage from our LBs, antrel and kenny would be the best safety duo in the league hands down.

by The Blood of Eli on Apr 26, 2011 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Jimmy Smith or Mike Pouncey in round one

Bruce Carter, Marcus Cannon or Shane Vereen in round 2.

But round 2 also Jon Baldwin, Wiz, Marvin Austin, Kyle Rudolph (tho that’s a SOFT NAME), or Brandon Harris (not happening…) would be excellent as well.

it has nothing to do with needed a WR

since we don’t.

There are so many guys

that are likeable but nobody in this range I’m in love with. There’s nobody like McClain last year where I wanted him, thought he would be there, and was devastated when he wasn’t. Smith, Carimi, Pouncey, Ayers, or Ingram. Any of those in the first, and I would be happy. Not thrilled, but definitely excited. I wouldn’t hate Castonzo if he was best available, but don’t really want him over any of the above. Foster, Carter, Harris, Wiz, Hudson, Rudolph, Cannon, Ijilana, or Ryan Williams would all be perfectly acceptable in the 2nd. Again, happy with any of them, and packaging any two of these options together would be a very satisfying draft. I would not like a DT unless somehow it was Fairley. The only thing that would make me unhappy would be another DE. So I’m probably going to be satisfied, probably excited, but not jumping for joy after round 2. At 19 that’s the best you can really look for.

Zero depth at CB

In fact I would say it’s the second most needed position on the team, obviously LB being the first, I’m just not higher on Ayers than I am Jimmy.
Aron Ross and Bruce Johnson are barely serviceable at this point

Jimmy Smith if he falls to 19 should be the BPA at that point (and for the Giants also a need), and then it’s a toss up between Akeem Ayers and Brandon Harris in round 1.

Quan Sturdivant, IMO he does not make it to the third by any strech and he is a second round talet in this years draft! then it’s a toos up between Martez Wilson and Rodney Hudson. If some how Wis falls to us in he second than he’s my first choice for the second round, I just don’t see it.

RD 2 : Justin Houston or Bruce Carter

Why does everyone want a corner?

you dont take a 1st or 2nd round CB to fill a nickel or dime spot…. we have two extremely solid starting cbs in c web and TT….

by The Blood of Eli on Apr 26, 2011 10:00 AM EDT reply actions

web and TT

Well I think most people feel Jimmy Smith could in the very near future replace TT or CWeb and be a top 10 DB in the league, and he very well may be the BPA when we select. And to add to that what if TT or CWeb went down, we would have nothing even near starting calibar at the DB spot (not sure that’s what I want in today’s NFL), I don’t want Ross (which is very sad I feel this way about Ross) or Johnson as a starter even short term, hell I’d rather not have either as my nickel!

The only reason I go Smith over Ayers is because I’m higher on Smith and think we stand a great chance of grabbing Bruce Carter (if healthy) or Quan Sturdivant to help the LB crop in the second.

But I guess I’d be OK with Ayers in the first and Rodney Hudson in the second, but I def don’t see Ijalana or Wisniewski falling to us in the second round, but I hope I’m wrong.

by NYCGMEN on Apr 26, 2011 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I want a corner....

so we can get our safeties (especially rolle) to get back to playing like real safeties….and in this day and age, a Nickel CB is practically a starter…he’s like a 12th man.

it’s pretty bad when Ross can’t even get on the field in Nickel and we have Safeties covering WRs, so i think a upgrade is needed.

and for the life of me I can’t honestly think why anyone believes this move would be to push Cweb. It would be more competition for TT.

FIX IT

by andiamo708 on Apr 26, 2011 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

agreed

i dont know how you can claim to watch all the giants games and think that cweb is antyhing less than a top 10 corner…. like for real? cweb aint goin anywhere….

as far as your argument with rolle and kenny playin saferty… thats on our LBs not the corners…. we only run 2 LBs and 3 safeties cause our LBs cant cover which is why we need Akeem Ayers

by The Blood of Eli on Apr 26, 2011 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions

What LB can cover WR? We had the worst ranked 3rd WR defense in the league last year.

Why do we want Ayers? Because he’s the best cover LB? That doesn’t make any sense. He’s too slow to be in on nickel packages and he’s a liability against the run. Agree to disagree, but I don’t want Ayers until the 3rd round, then I’ll take a gamble that he can improve against the run and be able to blitz effectively, both of which are things 1st round linebackers should be able to do.

by robotoverlord on Apr 26, 2011 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

he doesnt need to run stride for stride with these guys on fades

he needs to effectively get a shot on them when they release from the line of scrimmage and throw them off their routes…. then if they try to sit and find a hole in the zone(ie Steve Smith NY), he needs to strafe over and close the hole up. If there are no receivers trying to get open in the hook zone, make sure there are no TEs or RBs in the flats. These are all things that we do not do effectively. There are plenty linebackers who make a living doing these things and we need one. We do not need help covering the fades, posts, corners, and anything else deep. We get beat in the intermediate and short passing game.

ayers and the wiz or pouncy and carter

I think many ppl feel ayers is a stretch, but not as much as ppl think. I think carter and hudson at more of a stretch as round 2 picks personally. They both would be 3 or 4th rd projects if the draft class at lb wasn’t so weak this yr. I know many ppl may disagree, but that’s how I see it.

i can see that

I’m not big on a center in the first round or ol period that early. but it really depends on how’s still on the board.
