Lets face it...

The Eagles are nothing without Vick. Vick will get injured before we play them the second time, and hopefully by the Falcons for the first time. Without Vick, our schedule looks like:

Easy
Easy
Easy
Easy
Easy
Easy
Bye
Easy
Hard
Easy
Easy
Tough
Tough
Easy?
Easy
50-50 vs. Jets
Easy?

12.5 win season assuming Vick gets injured. Otherwise, 10-6 or 11-5. No problem.

Why won't god let us beat the Eagles?

settle soon

If not we’ve got a chance at only winning a few games this year. That’s a pretty soft opening. Possibility of 8-1 or 7-2 if we win the games we should win. Should have started with the Jets on 10th anniversary of 9/11 and Eagles week 2 MNF.

Final 9 games compared to Dallas

Go check out Dallas’ final 9 games compared to the Giants. No comparison. I don’t know why they seem to continually do this to the Giants – clump the more winnable game in the first half them give them murderer’s row the second half. I don’t want to hear anyone talking about the Giants fading at the end. This might have something to do with it! Sure, the good teams fight through these games, granted, but come on……..

I think the schedule makers

recognized a few years ago that we do fade down the stretch. Now they’re doing what they can to make the schedule hard in the second half for the Giants. Basically challenging them to step up and do what the best teams need to do. And that is play your best football after Thanksgiving and just win.

It's like the NFL is setting us up to collapse

That stretch between Weeks 11 and 14 doesn’t get much worse. Three primetime games in four weeks, with SNF at home against Philly before taking on the last two Super Bowl champs (Saints on MNF and in New Orleans) before heading down to Dallas on SNF. Add to that, that time during the season is usually when we start to shrivel up as of late.

Seems right on cue though; this seems to have been happening the last several seasons, and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that we seem to struggle late in the year when our schedules keep looking like this one.

The NFL and NFLPA? They can kiss my ass, OK? They can line up and kiss my ass.

Lot of complaining here

but Eli has to rise up and go to that next level.

That happens and we’re in the playoffs.

by The Curse on Apr 19, 2011 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

True

I’m a firm believer in making adjustments. You lose your safety net of Smith. Fine. Then use Boss and Beckum. Your run game is lacking. OK. Then use RB screens (not just bubble screens) as the Eagles do. Look at hose the Packers lost players and kept chugging along.

When the Giants lost Shockey, Eli adjusted and used Boss. When teams double-teamed Plax, Eli adjusted and used Smith. Boss and Smith were both rookies during the 2007 playoff run but Eli stepped up his game and made them better. He’s older, more experienced, and has more talent around him than he’s ever had. I see no reason why he can’t raise his game again. As far as I’m concerned, he better.

I don't blame Gilbride anymore

I stopped doing that last off-season.

Eli is a franchise QB. He’s entering his 8th season as the starting QB for the NY Giants. He’s a Super Bowl champion. There’s no way that Eli isn’t able to overrule Gilbride. Eli should be able to recognize the down and distance and see what will work. If he thinks Gilbride made the wrong call, Eli has the right to change the play.

It’s no coincidence that Boss’ TD numbers went up when Smith was hurt. Was it because Boss miraculously started playing better or was it because Eli finally started to look Boss’ way? The truth is that Boss was always there but Eli simply ignored him. Instead he chose to force the ball to Nicks and Smith. He didn’t use all of the talent around him until he had no other choice.

He knows the playbook forward and backward by now. Regardless of what Gilbride calls, Eli is still the one running the plays and making the throws. You don’t blame the catcher when a pitcher gives up a HR.

4-2 in the division = playoffs

Brutal schedule, but the bad teams we play are BAD. If we take care of business vs. the Skins, and at worst split vs. the Eagles and Boys, we’ll get in. If we can stay healthy enough through that tough stretch, we’ll be well seasoned to make a run after seeing lots of the best teams in the league.

by Bino41 on Apr 19, 2011 11:39 PM EDT reply actions

On paper: 7-9, maybe 9-7

But that’s on paper. This team can surprise — positively as well as negatively. As has already been posted: Eli needs to step up. Play to his promise. No more ‘well look what he did in 2007’ excuses for what he’s been doing lately. But, this year, the most important upgrade at position is OL, without doubt, followed by LB, them RB. At this point I’m going to remain guardedly optimistic. Every team has its problems. Some more than ours. I’m still hoping guessing we can win the whole ball of wax with the right bounce of the ball. Then again, there hasn’t been a snap yet.

Nine home games (again)

Eight games we will be favored to win, 4 as clear underdog, 4 even money. Not bad
Won’t make the playoffs without beating the Eagles at least once this season, and that is probably how it should be. Coughlin has been pretty good at minimizing the losses to teams that he should beat. If that holds true this year, the last four weeks may decide it, and the battle for New York against the Jets the deciding game. Fun.

Once again

I can see anything from 6-10 to 10-6 for this team (based on last year’s roster mind you). That last 9 is horrifying, and you have to account for the two automatic losses to the Eagles (until they make it different, I am convinced the Giants can not beat the Eagles… I wonder what insanely gut punching way they can find to lose to them this year?) in your predictions, as you have to for that automatic death trip into New Orleans (I still shudder thinking about that last trip into N.O. that completely broke the team’s brain in 2009, with C.C. Brown chasing WRs all over the field).

The math works out right to have 9/11 be a Sunday and be in Giants-Jets year and the 10th anniversary and the NFL fumbles it away. I havent heard a good excuse for this yet.

And to make matters worse they put the game on Christmas Eve, blech. I thought the last two weeks of the season were supposed to intra-divisional so as to avoid the Colts folding up the tents when they’ve clinched home-field.

problem with that theory is that the Redskins host the 49ers this year and the four flights were bound for either LA or Frisco meaning California lost a lot of people too.

Or Washington could have hosted any team and would have been able to properly honor the day. The NFL had a chance at a very nice moment that night and blew it.

Double Rough

What frustrates me with these backloaded schedules is that if they make the playoffs, they’ve got another 4 games against tough opponents. They’ll be playing teams fighting for playoff spots/home field advantage/survival for possibly 12 games.

People already picking Cowboys as a good team this year. I’m hoping they collapse, would give us the break in the season that would really help.

OH No

I feel unless they develop there running game they will end up 6 and 10 this year Eli is not strong enough to lead this team alone

Ladies and Gentlement...

This is the type of schedule that champions are forged in. This team has a Superbowl MVP quarterback, one of the most dominating defenses in the league, a top 5 receiving corp, one of the strongest running games in the league, and they have had no coaching changes.

There isn’t a game on that schedule that they can’t win.

What bugs me is that the Steelers have one of the easiest schedules ever, and they were in the Superbowl last year.

Remember how the secondary gave up a ton of 20+ yard plays?

No? Well, they did. The defense can be dominating, but it is wildly inconsistent.

I see us 9-7 (of course I hope we win more games)

Losses: Eagles(2), Cowboys, Packers, Saints, Patriots, and Jets.
Wins: Redskins(2), Cowboys, Rams, 49ers, Miami, Cardinals, Bills, Seahawks.

I think we can be the Jets, because we’re good a shutting down the run and I think Mark Sanchez is a bust, but maybe that’s just the Homer in me.

I hope we can beat the Eagles this season, but I’m not sure that we can.

Rex Ryan... I salute you!

Difficult schedule made even harder

In weeks 12 and 13 the Giants will face the Saints and Packers and both teams will have extra time to prepare. Because of their week 11 bye the Saints will have 15 days while the Pack will have 10 because they play on Thanksgiving. To make matters worse for the Giants the Packers game is on a short week.

I know but think about it...

If we were 11-3 at that point in the season? We’d maybe gear down a bit. It would be just like the frickin’ Jets to play that game like it’s the Super Bowl (Since they haven’t been to one in so long,) and then crow about beating our third string all winter. (They have to have something to do since they won’t be playing football.)

10-6 or 11-5 when ever the season begins

The only team that worry me is the packers because the giants don’t match up well with their speedy wrs.

by Jermal on Apr 20, 2011 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Kinda sucks, but. . .

I’d rather have the tough stretch at the end of the season. Any rookies we draft or new guys that could help improve the LB or OL will hopefully have a much better feel for the system by the end of the year. Sure, the same is true for other teams, but the big play positions like RB and WR usually have less of a transition phase. Here’s to hoping the Giants fill their gaps and are firing on all cylinders by week 10!
