Perry Fewell Won't Interview With Tennessee Titans
In case you were wondering, New York Giants fans, it looks like defensive coordinator Perry Fewell will not be a candidate for the vacant Tennessee Titans' head coaching job. Of course, the Giants thought they were done with this speculation when Fewell fell short of jobs with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
Then the Titans went and re-opened this door by getting rid of long-time coach Jeff Fisher. Reports indicate, however, that Fewell is not scheduled to get an interview with Tennessee about the job.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Titans will satisfy Rooney Rule requirements by interviewing Ray Sherman for the vacancy. Sherman, who had been receivers coach with the Dallas Cowboys, was let go by new coach Jason Garrett at the end of the season.
During his tour of teams looking for head coaches immediately after the season, Fewell had expressed hesitation about interviewing in places where he felt he was just getting a token interview to enable teams to meet the Rooney Rule requirement.
To the Giants' good fortune, it appears he won't have to worry about it with the Titans.

i hate the Rooney rule
Just interview the best candidates available, regardless of race. I understand why it is in place, but as a black man, I’m offended by it. Finding a token black to hit your Rooney quota? Check.

Agreed
Maybe the Rooney rule was needed to put ice in people’s underwear to wake them up to the fact that skin color has nothing to do with coaching ability. That was then.
It is no longer needed at all and makes a sham of some interviews. Embarrassing to all.
Select people on ability, stop the nonsense, teams will pick who they think is best anyway. Nobody ever got a job based simply on the rule.
Dump it along with that white guy who cannot coach….Quinn.
All the Giants should play like Mark Bavaro.
Tom Quinn Must Go!
On second thought, let's not blame players or coaches, they are not responsible. The unsupportive fans are to blame.

Well said,
it was needed at one time to get black candidates in the door. To break through the “good old boys” club. It does SEEM to me that the rule has had the desired effect. Owners were exposed to some fellas who didnt look like them and learned that black head coaches can, well, coach.
And I am glad Fewell will be back. Overall I really liked what I saw. Another year of he and the players jelling, we will be better next year, IMO.
"Just when I thought you could'nt be any dumber, you go and do this... AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!!
I think the rule was well intentioned. I doubt they ever thought it would foster this kind of lip service.
When I was in college in the sixties (admittedly up North) my friends and I naively talked about how we thought racism might actually go away in a couple of generations. Sadly we still have a long way to go.

it was well intentioned
but now it’s become about a quota fill. interview tom, dick, bob, and leroy. even tho we’ve already made a handshake agreement to bob.
i think we’ve gotten past that, with the success of the Mike Tomlins, the Tony Dungys of the world. it won’t be changed, and i understand why, but i cringe whenever i hear such and such was interviewed to fulfill the Rooney rule. and i applaud Fuel for not being apart of that circus.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
Titans loss Giants gain
Glad Fewell is staying the defense can only get better with another year under Perry’s tutalage and should stand up throughout next season. As far as the Rooney rule goes it had it’s place and time but now it is no longer needed the owners are no longer locked into the good ole boy club for coaches. I hope the rule gets dropped.
can we get some interviews for quinn the eskimo?
anybody. any team. any job. anywhere but here.
