Giants Game Ball Goes To Hakeem Nicks

Okay, I'm getting tired of giving out game balls every week to someone from the losing team, but that's the situation we've been dealt as our Giants have not won a game since beating the Patriots on November 6, exactly one month ago today. Yikes. There were several Giants who stepped up on Sunday against the Packers in what was almost a monumental upset, but I'm giving the game ball this week to wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Nicks caught seven passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns, including one in which CB Charles Woodson was mugging him in the back of the end zone. Even Woodson gave Nicks a fist-bump after that one. Despite the emergence of Victor Cruz, Nicks still draws the top cover guys like Woodson, and he keeps managing to either get open or make spectacular catches in spite of tight coverage.

Now let's get a win next week so I can feel better about handing out this weekly prize.

What no vote?

Seriously though this was a no-brainer. Nicks is an Elite WR.

It could be worse. I could be a Jets fan.

I tell myself after every game that I need to go out and grab a Nicks jersey.

This kid is just on another level. I honestly don’t know how he makes the plays he does. How many times has Nicks been blanketed (sometimes even interfered with) by a DB and still manages to come down with that ball secure? Just when I think there is no way he made a catch he pops up with the ball and my jaw hits the floor.

its been a long time since woodson was a "top cover guy"

He’s a ball hawk for sure, but he’s not even average in coverage. Tramon Williams is probably their best cover corner… although he hasn’t played nearly as well this year as he did last year.

by Matt dubs on Dec 6, 2011 4:47 PM EST reply actions

No problem with him getting it.

though Jay-Pee-Pee could be another.

I support the Giants like bras support Kim Kardashian's boobs. It can be a struggle, we've had some jiggles, but we're still firm.

I would have given It to JPP he is a beast.

Why is Tom Quinn still here? I loves me some Coach Clawfin.

hakeem changes games

i think hes better than any elite receiver in the game at “nose”. when that ball is up there he just has a nose for it, i was SHOCKED he didnt catch the ball thrown to him at the end of the game there. SHOCKED. even with being hung on and blasted.

tough to catch a ball thats tipped away

Nicks knows he has to step up

Victor Cruz has been making an argument for #1 receiver all year. Probably won’t happen, but Cruz should at least become #2. I think Manningham’s speed and size would work great in the slot.

by NobleMadness on Dec 6, 2011 5:31 PM EST reply actions

I'm not a fan of Manningham in the slot

Get over MM since next year, very well might not be here

With the emergence of Cruz, I think MM’s price tag will mean he will go elsewhere.

Not that I don’t like him, just being realistic.

All the Giants should play like Mark Bavaro.
Tom Quinn Must Go!
It is equally worthless when people are always optimistic or always pessimistic. Either way I take their opinion with a pound of salt because I know they only have one setting. I post my own thoughts, not what either side wants to read.

I never thought Manningham would re-sign with the Giants

He’ll likely get more targets on another team.

I really couldn’t care less right now.

Plus, after Beckum lit the Packers up on Sunday I think the future is with him!

Who would be our deep threat then?

Nicks is a beast, but MM has got speed over hime. It’s actually a catch 22 as Maningham is a huge YAC guy, which is ideal for a slot receiver, but he is also our only legitimate deep threat to strech the opposing D backfield. A conundrum we are extremely lucky to have.

2 1000 yard WRs in Cruz and Nicks.. Go fix that O-line that will only get worse as it ages

There's always a co uple FAs

That are servicable and good stop-gap players.

Plus, for all the raw talent MM has he is also the biggest bone head and makes the most costly mistakes — most notably not getting two feet in bounds.

wow

VC leads our team in catchs, yds, ypc, recs for 1st downs, 20+ rec, 40+ rec, ypg, & tds. Oh & he’s top 10 in the league in ALL those categories. I love Nicks too & I think he’s better than VC, but “can’t sniff his jock”. Seriously? VC’s only in his first season of seeing the field. And Its true, he benefits from Hak often getting doubled but he’s proving he can carry the load & Eli trusts him (maybe even a lil more than Hak).

Same with Drizzy, don’t know why you hate on this guy so much. Cant we agree its awesome that we’ve got 2 guys that are so damn good.

Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.
-John Madden
[Jake Ballard] has 4 speeds actually:
Stop→Slow→Truck (he shifts into that when its time to carry 4 defenders for another 4 yards)→LEAP!
-Raptor 22

Hate Nicks

So far proving to be better than maclin. He uses his big body so well. Now if the kid could just stop dropping some passes he ’d be so much better.

I’m not that big of a fan of Reese.. But Kudos to the JPP/Nicks piece.. Huge

Nicks had the tools to have an immediate impact at a position that we were desperate to fill. Glad we stayed away from Britt.
