nygmen123: Again, without Vick or Maclin, or Cromartie. Injuries don't seem to bother them. They just bring in guys to make plays
nygmen123: Stopped the Pats on the first series. Planted Brady twice. Guess what gang? This team isn't quitting. Or making excuses.

Lamar Miller

in round one. The only “star” OT for us to pick is Osemele since the top 3 will be gone. I’m not too high on him

Burfict benched and demoted to 2nd string for dogging it in practices and playing undisciplined.

Gives up on plays too and has problems with coaches. Not exactly the “leader” we need. McShay is slacking.

I support the Giants like bras support Kim Kardashian's boobs. It can be a struggle, we've had some jiggles, but we're still firm.

Who says they'd draft him to be a leader

Sounds like a strong side backer to me, let’s em move Kiwi to RDE, JPP to LDE, Osi trade bait and Tuck rehabs

When Tuck gets healthy he’s a guy who can be moved around to create havoc.

It’s already a wrap… might as well not show up tomorrow.

LMAO

No way Jeffery (pre-combine analysis here) lasts to 22, and I’m doubting Burfict even gets drafted in the 1st.

Physical freak, and a vicious hitter, but also a notorious nipplehead. You just can’t go around giving 1st downs like they’re candy. Dude also has yet to learn the finer points of playing LB (ie: not headbutting refs, or any tactic other than launching yourself at another player like a human missile).

I’d MUCH rather have Luke Kuechly (LB, BC) or Zach Brown (LB, UNC).

by Raptor22 on Dec 21, 2011 9:03 PM EST reply actions

I'd rather have Kuechly too

He and and a healthy Herz would make a nice pairing alongside Boley. However, is he worth of a first-round pick?

by GhostDini on Dec 21, 2011 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

IMO

Yes. His production is outrageous. He has absolutely elite instincts and football IQ.

However, I think his draft position will be unfairly weighted by his combine. If he shows “surprising athleticism” (code for “hey, a white guy who can run!”) he’s a top 10-15 pick. If his combine is only average, he’ll drop.

Regardless of whether or not he can run in shorts, Kuechly is a football player. He is EVERYWHERE on game day.

Kuechly, a healthy Herz, and a healthy Boley could make for the best 43 LB corp in the league. (on passing downs, kick take Kuechly off and insert JWill.)

Near as I can tell, GM’s look for more reasons why NOT to draft a kid than why they SHOULD. (ie: Prince)

by Raptor22 on Dec 21, 2011 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

Don't knock the "he can run thing"

Making speed your top or only criteria is as wrong as ignoring it

I’ve seen way too many guys with elite instincts and football IQ that couldn’t get on the field. I’ve got no real opinion on any of these LBs.

His career might be over. Osi should’ve been traded before this season. After missing so many games, his value is very low.

JPP, Linval, and Petrus all from that draft, although giants fans will always wonder what could have been if we’d gotten Sean Lee in the 2nd round…holy shit that would have been a hell of a draft.

Theres a good chance that Lee wouldnt be the player he is today if he wasnt at Dallas

We dont seem to develop LBs very well at all, so I dont think Lee would look as good with us. And JPP would still be chugging along in anonimity if he had gone to a team that doesnt develop DEs as well as we do

Lost in the playoffs of the BBV fantasy league and ended 3rd overall! Team Figging lived on with its 9-5 regular season record. Beat the (Insert Giants Opponent Here) were just too good to beat.

by NYGFan777 on Dec 21, 2011 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Yepp

If the giants want to keep a deep, elite DE rotation then they need to draft another. It depends on what happens with the linebackers though – if Goff comes back strong, we could go into next season with a strong enough LB lineup to move Kiwi back to DE, which makes things a lot easier. If not, then things get dicey.

Go Giants!

Personally,

I’d rather grab Melvin (lol… Melvin…) Ingram from South Carolina, let him understudy behind Tuck. JPP does his best work at RDE, and I like Kiwi as the joker/wild card.

Whitney Mercilus is another option, but I think he could be gone by the time we pick.

by Raptor22 on Dec 22, 2011 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

I try not to figure plans based on trades or moves

But I can easily see how moving Kiwi back to DE could open things up going forward

JPP has played very well at LDE,he’s struggled at DT (to my eye) and with more experience it seems like something he could manage.

Also, Joseph has proven his ability, hopefully Austin will be DT #3, if Bernard who has been good can be #2, we may see Canty’s time with the team end. I like Canty, but he really hasn’t played well enough to not get moved.

So you're saying that when the Giants have 5 CBs on IR

a CB in the draft wasn’t a good move? Prince missed so much because of the foot injury but that wasn’t Reese’s fault.

by bigblue777 on Dec 22, 2011 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

That's interesting

You’ve frequently denigrated Terrell Thomas and I think we can all agree that Ross doesn’t cut it. Therefore, cornerback was very much a position of need as much as it was a value pick. And with most of your money invested in the D-line and secondary the linebackers are less important. But with all the injuries and below par performances to the secondary and D-line then the weakness at linebacker becomes glaring. If we had the anticipated D-line rotation of Tuck, Kiwi, Osi and Jpp playing at or near their expected effectiveness and a healthy secondary, the linebacking weakness would be far less noticeable.

by Tucker Fredrickson on Dec 22, 2011 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

and beside youre only concentrating on the first round of the draft

JR never think about the LB position until the 4th round except 2009 maybe somebody held down JR that year picked Clint Sintim. But even that has turned out to be a bust.

by rcnt123 on Dec 22, 2011 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

What is he supposed to do? Reach for an LB that he doesn't like? Waste the value of a draft pick to fill a need?

You can’t address every single need with a great player. He’s drafted at least one linebacker in every draft since 2006, with 2011’s draft being the only one he didn’t draft a LB in the 4th round or sooner. He signed Boley as a FA and addressed that need.

You are same kind of fan that bitched and moaned and called JR a moron when he drafted JPP in the 1st round because he didn’t “address a need.” Well we need JPP right now don’t we? Let the man do his job (which he is great at) and stop being unrealistic.

I'd love to see a list of the great 4-3 LBs drafted in the last 5 years

Even in your LB comment you say ooops, except for when he didn’t. I’m sure you knew when he drafted Sintim, he was going to suffer back to back ACLs. I just don’t see how he lasts until pick 15-17. Then again – I think a lot of teams will feast on the QB’s coming out this year who missed out last year – Seattle, Fish, Cleveland, Skins ….he might drop as it seems McShay talks about some character issues.

I think it’s well known by now that JR picks players based on value. I don’t think a CB was a pressing first round concern, but when he saw a top 10 talent like Prince drop on his lap, he had no choice. Giants will draft a player most likely on defense that they have ranked highest on their board. I know we need LB help, but if another stud like JPP is available and has higher value, they’ll go with that player.

Can't anticipate injuries.

Losing our #1 run stuffer and CB1 is not really something you can prepare for. Granted the problems go beyond a mlb and cb, but this team isn’t the one the front office had intended to be on the field.

Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

If you're going to draft the top talent then make sure you get what you need in FA before the draft.

Don’t leave a gaping hole that teams can anticipate your draft picks.

this is value

1st Round – CB, S, WR, DE, CB

2nd Round – WR, CB,OT, LB, DT, DT

3rd Round – DT, WR, WR, TE, S, WR

Yes and No

Some guys haven’t lived up to expectation, but would you rather the Giants draft a 2nd or 3rd tier LB over a top flight DE or CB that can make an immediate impact?

I’d like the Giants to draft solid OL, DL, and LB’s.

Pass on TR

I know TR is the top RB coming out, but so was Mark Ingram last year and the Giants passed. Plus we signed Bradshaw to an extension so highly unlikely the Giants would draft him if still available.

Another note

I don’t see the Giants valuing RB’s in the first round either. They’re the one position I feel isn’t worth a first round pick unless it’s an Adrian Peterson or Darren McFadden caliber RB. The last RB selected by the Giants in the 1st round was Ron Dayne in 2000 and look how that turned out.

yepp

If we drafted some OL talent, I’d be perfectly fine with our 2012 RBs of Bradshaw, Ware, and Scott. I think Scott gets some serious burn next year.

IIRC Dayne was criminally misused, no?

He was big but didn’t they pretty much use him as a fullback?

nah

he was criminally suck a tool

nygmen123: Again, without Vick or Maclin, or Cromartie. Injuries don't seem to bother them. They just bring in guys to make plays
nygmen123: Stopped the Pats on the first series. Planted Brady twice. Guess what gang? This team isn't quitting. Or making excuses.
Simms-McC: Yeah -- I wish the Giants were more like the Eagles
nygmen123: In intensity and fight? Right now, so do I.

Dude did well in a zone scheme actually with Denver and Houston

We tried to use him as a short yardage back just because he was big, but he sucked at that.

by bigblue777 on Dec 22, 2011 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

He was a small big back

NFL is littered with guys that could run over college defenders and fail at it in the NFL

Dayne was a mid rounder at best, it was a foolish pick because similar players without hardware went later.

Also Ron Dayne was a terrible pick, Shaun Alexander was the right move that year

McFadden's been injury prone

but when healthy this season, he was easily the best RB in the NFL. So uh..pay attention.

He can't carry AP's jock!

AP IS the best back in the league despite having his own injury issues AND being in a offense that doesn’t feed him the ball like he should be! EVERY team he plays knows they have to take him out of the game and very few can. He has 16TDs in 11 games, your boy McFadden has 4 in 7 games. So uh yeah, back up your shitty opinions with facts!

by eyerish9299 on Dec 22, 2011 10:18 AM EST up reply actions

TDs alone don't make a great back

the hell are you trying to do anyway. Did you even pay attention at all to McFadden this year? No..oh.

READING COMPREHENSION!!

The fact that TDs don’t make a great back is exactly why I made a second post below! But I see as usual you refuse to acknowledge logic and reason that goes against your ideas. Read my list below and tell me which of those backs you wouldn’t take over McFadden?

by eyerish9299 on Dec 23, 2011 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't take many of those backs over McFadden

probably only McCoy and Peterson. Maybe Gore.

Foster and Charles are a product of the Denver Broncos dime a dozen 1000yd RBs OL scheme, Marshawn Lynch is going for a contract, LOL at Fred Jackson, Ray Rice get the ball a whole lot, same with MJD. Forte you wouldn’t have said this last year, CJ2K will never run for 2K again.

Just cuz you did more research on your own, doesn’t mean you’re not doing it wrong.

hahaha

upon further research, you’re an even bigger moron then originally thought! Over HALF of McFadden’s rushing yards came in 2 HUGE games. 150 yards against Denver and 171 yards against the Jets! I don’t even think he’s a top 10 running back! AP, Shady, Gore, Foster, Lynch, F Jackson, Rice, MJD, Sproles, Murray, Forte, Charles, CJ2K ALL RB’s who I would take over McFadden.

Jerry drafts on value, Drafting Richardson 1 and missing out on a top LB, OL, or Dback would be stupid. Runningbacks are a dime a dozen unless you have an AP type which Richardson is not.

if we can reshuffle the OL, a combination of bradshaw and richardson would be ridiculous. our offense would be insane

by Badshaw44 on Dec 22, 2011 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

richardson is overrated

you even have predicate your statement with “if we can reshuffle the OL”

by rcnt123 on Dec 22, 2011 11:11 AM EST up reply actions

How is Richardson overrated?

Wait, let me guess, you’re going to fault Richardson by saying he has a great OL, like its under his control or something. My point is that if we continue to reshuffle our OL like we have been (Moving Diehl to LT, getting Petrus and Boothe in the mix) and return to being a somewhat competent run blocking offensive line, a combination of Bradshaw and Richardson would be dirty. Almost every RB ever needed a good run blocking OL to succeed and Richardson would be GREAT with that.

But according to your draft philosophy we should just draft the best LB even if he’s not worth the pick.

by Badshaw44 on Dec 22, 2011 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

He reminds me of Mark Ingram

Obvi both playing at Alabama has a lot to do with it, but regardless—-there is no way in hell that guy falls that low in the draft. He’s projected Top 5, worst case Top 10. It’s a fun debate, but that’s like saying what if Andrew Luck is available when it’s the Giants turn.

It's still GIANTS Stadium

by Gmenfan on Dec 22, 2011 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Didn't you say that about Ingram last year

RBs fall in the draft cause they are so hard to eval. Between OL, Offense, opponents it’s tough to know whose talent really translates to 1st round talent. If the pro GMs can’t do it, what makes any of us think we can?

Add in you get excellent guys in rd 2 and stars even later, it’s value drops.

LB why we are so good against the run

And protect the middle of the field just fine with 6 rd draft picks, unsigned free agents and a possiblely pro bowl DE playing LB. Plus with Fewell mastermind scheme of rushing 3 beening so successful, I say we just put 11 CBs and safeties on field and stop going after the QB apparently this gives them more time to find an open reciever. Because our goal this year has been to find ways to help our opponents work methodically down the field on 98 yard 8 minute type drives. Everyone knows this is the best way to demoralize your denfense and keep Eli fresh for a 58 second drive to win or lose the game.

Or a S

And I’ll bet he’s not opposed to a LT or a QB or a great DT

And I’ll go out on a limb. If a guy like Burfict drops our way, he’ll get serious consideration. The pattern I see. He won’t draft guys cause they have instincts or a motor till later. He’ll draft them, but he won’t overpay for intangibles that translate less than 1/2 the time.

Let’s remember there where people here that scoffed at the idea that Hrzlich would be on the board in the fifth round, so we better take him in the third.
