I was driving to work this morning, listening to Mike&Mike on ESPN and Cris Carter was on in his time slot and they were discussing the Giants. Carter made I think one of the saddest and most damning statements you can ever make against any professional football player imho.
He said the Giants are a SOFT football team, both physically and mentally. This made me more sad than anything else. I am 23 years old and was born and raised a Giants fan my entire life. I was just young enough not to know any better yet and just missed the great early superbowl years in 86 n 91. The 2007 superbowl was one of the greatest sports moments Ive ever had, and will never forget it. And remembering that team, and what they were, makes these guys now even harder to watch. That team was flawed, everybody even the players would admit that. BUT the one thing they had, and one of the biggest factors in that run was heart. If any of you have seen or have the superbowl DVD of that year, even in the beginning intro, with a bunch of highlights in there, theres a clip with Carl Banks sayin "this team wont QUIT"!!! Now with this team and the team of the last 3 years, ALL THEY KNOW HOW TO DO IS QUIT!!! Its so sad for me to watch, especially when Im watching the NFL network and the stories of those old days and those first superbowl teams. Thos teams were tough, on both sides of the ball. They may not always win, but damnit they were goin down swinging and would punch you in the mouth no matter what. I really miss that on this team. Watchin sunday was really hard. Everybody points to Nicks droppin that pass, but even still, by watchin the battle in the trenches ya could tell there was no winning that game. To get blown off both lines constantly play after play, I wanted to just curl up and cry. Where was the heart, where was the pride. I mean I know everybody will say "oh theyr pros, they dont give a shit bout the fans" and I know that. But I dont care who you are, everybody has an internal limit of just how much bull they will take. At least I thought everyone did. With these guys, I guess they dont, outside of a select few. the talk is everywhere bout coaching changes, this and that. Even if they change coaches, true change will not happen until each and every one of those players looks in the mirror and determines to be accountable to themselves, to each other, to their coaches, and to there fans. So in conclusion of my now very long crybaby narrative, I implore this team, PLEASE find the pride, the toughness, the heart, that each and everyone of you are capable of(and I know you have it,cus I dont care who you are, you do NOT get into this league without it) and go out there and show it on the field. Dont just talk to us week in and week out. That gets old. Go out there and show it!!!! I know this isnt missouri, but SHOW ME damnit!!! Show us all!!!
