16 Tackles, Indictment on the Defense or Just Great Individual Play.

In Sunday's game against the Redskins Jason Pierre-Paul had 11 solo tackles and 5 assists. For any player that is a high number of tackles. The Giants as a team recorded 64 tackles, and JPP had 11 of those which comes out to 17% of the teams total tackles. The Giants had 22 tackle assists, so JPP had roughly 25% of those.

We have also see a lot of JPP chasing down RB and WRs deep into the secondary. These players have bypassed the other linemen, the linebackers, and are in the defensive backs area yet JPP has to chase them down. He often does this after pushing several yards past the line of scrimmage in pursuit of the QB. While I like the fact that JPP is Superman, I wonder if him having to do all this is best for the team. Instead of using his energy to destroy QBs he is chasing down RBs.

JPP is doing what the Linebackers and Safeties should be doing. He should be blowing up the play behind the line of scrimmage and the LBs should be cleaning up the tackles. JPP should not have to blow up the play and clean it all up down the field. While I love the talent and desire that JPP shows, I think that he has to make all these plays in the greatest indicator of just how bad these LBs are.
