2 and a half men defense
From now on I am referring to our Defense as the 2 1/2 men look. The Men?
1) Jason Pierre Paul - An absolute beast and a guy who single handedly seems to be putting the team on his back at times in order to stop drives.
2) Corey Webster - He has been magnificent this year. Tough to notice because when teams go to 3 WR and 4 WR sets someone is usually wide open, but it has almost never been his man. He did a great job on Des last night and I look forward to seeing him match up on Paxico in 2 weeks.
The Half Man
OK this is a bit of a jab on a guy who has been glue at times this year, but I had to get the Charlie Sheen show reference in so there had to be a half man.
Antrel Rolle has been very solid this year. I can't knock him for his effort although I would still love to see him making more plays. Still a shout out to Antrel.
One guy not on this list is Mathias Kiwanuka. Blame for this goes to him being out of position for most of the year. His heart and effort are unquestionable. Still I think it is time for him to go back to end (especially with Tuck ailing) assuming he hasn't lost to much weight to play there regularly. With Kiwi and JPP at the ends and Anvil and Canty up front at least we should have a semblance of a top front line to go with the patchwork that is the rest of the D.
Thanks for reading this week's musings. Great win. Go Giants!

total mismanagement
Random points about the D:
-The cover 2 scheme is completely incompatible with this personell. For an effetcive cover 2 you need good cover linebackers and smart D backs. The Giants are better off going to a 3-4 next season and having KIWI and JPP Rush standing up from OLB then have this debacle of a cover 2.
-Its time to can Fewell.
- Tuck and Osi should not be on this team next season. When Tuck was substituted the penetration was much improved. I know they were very good players but it is just not the case anymore. Trade both and get some mid level draft picks while you can. Both are going to want big contracts and are not Worth it.
-Fewell needs to go
Tuck is hurt
I think that is clear. You won’t replace him with a better player. No reason to get rid of him off a subpar season.
It could be worse. I could be a Jets fan.
I think
You forgot to add sarcasm font when you said to get rid of Tuck… How quickly we forget how dominate of a player he can be and most likely will be again. He is having a frustrating injury ridden year, it is not a case of him getting old or anything like that I see no reason what so ever why we would get rid of tuck. Remember he was pretty dominant in the preseason as well which doesn’t count for much other then he still has it just is not healthy. Get rid of tuck- LOL -

confidence?
how confident are you he will return to original form? This is the NFL not baseball.
And if it is his neck that is very serious.
I hope is bounces back next season but I am not confident we will ever see the dominating Tuck again.
Tuck had a similar season in 2009
then proceeded to damn near be DPOY in 2010.
You don’t get rid of a player for a down, injury plagued year. Tuck is the Giants best player on defense, it would be like getting rid of Eli just cuz he was hurt one year.

fair point
I hope he bounces back big time.
It's injuries...and
Everyone forgets that this team has not been at full strength AT ALL, on D this year. That said, Fewell’s scheme reminds me of the Rod Rust days. We bring in 6 DBs and they still can’t cover anyone, with the exception of Webster. So, you may as well blitz all the time. Problem is, have you ever really watched the Giants blitz in the last few years? I swear, any time they bring a LB or DB, it looks like they just run into a blocker. Is it the players? Is it Fewell? Is it the injuries? I would say, give Fewell one more year. Hopefully, injuries will not be as bad next year and we can truly evaluate the D. TC should not go anywhere until HE is ready to go.
Kunningham?
get outta here, you!
nygmen123: Again, without Vick or Maclin, or Cromartie. Injuries don't seem to bother them. They just bring in guys to make plays
nygmen123: Stopped the Pats on the first series. Planted Brady twice. Guess what gang? This team isn't quitting. Or making excuses.

You couldnt be more wrong about Antrel Rolle
He has been AWFUL this year. He’s is decent in run support but he is one of the worst safeties in the NFL covering the pass this season.
Every time you see a blown coverage in the giants D, where a corner seems to stay down low and the WR is wide open deep, its because Rolle bit, moved to the inside and left the guy wide open when it was his responsibility. He did this in both the NO and GB games as well as on the long TD to give the cowboys them the 12 point lead. He is living on reputation not play right now.

Position
It would be nice to keep Rolle in his most comfortable position. He has been asked to play all over the place.
most of the mistakes i've seen have been regardless of position
I know from time to time he’s lined up as the slot/nickel CB… but last nights game for instance (and most since prince came back) he’s been playing a traditional safety spot. He was 10-15 yards back, needed to diagnose the play and made a wrong decision.
In the case of hte blown play last night, he followed the slot reciever in to the middle of the field (where there were 2 other defenders to cover the man) as he let Bryant go uncovered up the sideline. I don’t think its a physical thing for him, I think he doesn’t understand the defense. Either way, its his fault, he needs to make those plays… he’s overpaid and overrated.
Kiwi and Rolle
Jason Witten 3 catches 12 yards. I think Kiwanuka did just fine.
Rolle has 3 passes defensed in 13 games. Prince has 2 in 5. Baldwin was Rolle’s responsibility in the Seattle game, go look up his stats. Rolle has had good moments and bad. But a safety making $8 million is not supposed to have so many bad moments.
Bryant, Austin, and Witten were non-factors for most of last night. Someone has to get credit for that. Don’t know who.
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue."
also
a safety making $8M / yr shouldnt be playing in the nickel CB position.
Nobody wins the Superblow in November.
Talk is Cheap! Play the Game!
You can't spell Elite without ELI.
J. Will
and Boley get most of the credit for keeping Witten contained, and C.W. did his thing shutting down Bryant most of the night.

A guy who is kinda getting left out I think
Is Linval Joseph. He’s been called one of the strongest guys on the team and I think the way he has been anchoring the middle of our D-Line has been outstanding. Also this is only his first full year as a starter. He develps more and we have a MONSTER in the middle of our defense.
NASCAR works when Tuck is healthy
but he’s not so I wish they’d stop. Especially using Tollefson there.

just imagine
when Austin is beasting in there with Linval, and Canty rotating equally… this team has a bright future!
