I don't see how that's a bad thing

Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.
-John Madden
[Jake Ballard] has 4 speeds actually:
Stop→Slow→Truck (he shifts into that when its time to carry 4 defenders for another 4 yards)→LEAP!
-Raptor 22

Rolle is dead on

can’t argue any of it except….the defensive scheme wasn’t a good one by any means. If VY didin’t suck so bad the Giants would’ve lost by 30.

Rolls is always right in his assessments

I know he doesn’t realistically think they should be undefeated but the way they lose games is embarrassing. And the way they win games is Pathetic, everything is a heart attack never a complete smooth convincing win. Doesn’t necessarily hav to be a blowout neither, just a winning performance

The way they play win or lose I am out of nails on my hands to bite and I do not want to start on toe toenails.

Kiwinuka is soooo good.

And as Michaels and Collinsworth mentioned during the game, he has to be freakishly strong to be able to make some of the tackles he does with such ease.

Insightful quote

The Giants season could be determined over the next three weeks — at New Orleans, Green Bay, at Dallas.

Disagree with Ed about zone

We all know that Perry Fewell is a disciple of the Cover 2 philosophy and he implements it sometimes.
And there are some people on this site who are proponents of it, because it "hides" our linebackers.

However, for Cover 2 and zone coverage to work best, you actually need good linebackers. Linebackers will make or break your zone.
Linebackers in zone coverage have arguably the most important responsibility; the underneath routes and the middle of the field. That’s why you see a lot of teams attack zones by designing plays where receivers will be in between the linebacker and the safety.

Therefore, because linebackers have the most important responsibility, the Giants shouldn’t use zone coverage schemes.
We all saw how confused the linebackers were.
It’s much easier for rookies if you just tell them to cover receiver X, rather than cover this area. If two receivers converge, the rookies over-analyze and in the end, they don’t protect their zone at all.

You know where our strong suit is? It’s with the pass rush and corners. What scheme do you with these strengths? You play press-man coverage.
We have physical corners that excel in man, especially with Webster and now Amukamara. Combine that with our pass-rush and QB’s will not only have no time to throw it, but no where to throw it too.
The problem with zone is that even if we pressure the QB, it won’t matter if the receivers are in open spaces in zone coverage because of poor linebackers.

We have to implement our defense based on our strong suits.
The reason why the Bears excel in zone coverage is because they have Urlacher and Briggs. We don’t. But we have very good corners and a great pass rush.
Use our strengths, rather than trying to "hide" our weaknesses.

by Bpeter289 on Nov 22, 2011 4:46 PM EST reply actions

funny u bring up the Bears

They them selves have been using a lot less cover 2 and its changed them as a D force.

Second the Bears have Also adjusted to more max protect in order to save Cutlers life. And looky hear! he is now one of the
Least sacked QBs.

NOTE 2 THE GIANTS!!!!!!! See Chicago!!!!!!!

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

Giant LB'zz SUCK!! Mark Herzlich, Greg Jones,Jacquian Williams,Paysinger...Maybe not..

by Troy O on Nov 22, 2011 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

I say the same things and get ridiculed

This is ridiculous!!! All these points are dead on, the reason the bears are successful is b/c they actually HAVE GOOD “LINEBACKERS” don’t defensive lineman trying to play a position b/c their one of the most talented guys on the team. They actually went and got good LBz and continue to do so. We should be knocking the hell outta receivers and pressuring on 3rd down. Not dropping 8 and no1 actually drops to the sticks to make sure they keep everything in front

by AHoustonGiant on Nov 22, 2011 6:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

the Bears defense is good cuz they have a really athletic defensive line

identical to the Giants. Except the Bears rarely have less then 4 down rushers.

terrible points

the Bears changed to more man coverage and single high (even ESPN figure that one out) this season and that’s why they’ve been good. Urlacher and Briggs have slowed down so they changed their schemes up to overcome it and not rely on those guys as much.

I agree on the Bears offense tho. Its funny that the Giants did the same thing early on with the quick passes but have completely forgotten about it. Then again its not so funny cuz the O is now inconsistent and its happened in the past.

by Rorschach44 on Nov 22, 2011 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Not talking about this year's Bears defense. Never said that.

Remember back during their heyday and their Super Bowl run?

They imployed the Tampa 2 a lot more. And the reason why that worked, was because you had great linebackers in Urlacher and Briggs.

Look at the Cover 2/Tampa 2 schemes. You nees athletic linebackers, who are generally smaller, to hold the middle and underneath routes.

The Giants don’t have them, beside Boley and Jacquain, who’s looking like a deer in headlights.

by Bpeter289 on Nov 22, 2011 9:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Difference between us and the Bears

They have a guy named Forte.

Remember the Bears problem was protecting Jay Cutler and integrating the complex passing offense of Mike Martz.
They didn’t have a problem running the ball.

We can’t run or pass block.

by Bpeter289 on Nov 22, 2011 9:34 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Rorschac44

The 2006 Bears defense, which was ranked 6th, carried a Rex GROSSman Bears offense to the SuperBowl. That defense employed Tampa 2.
This year’s Bears defense, which as I said before I never mentioned and wasn’t referring to, can’t compare with the 2006 defense.

Perry Fewell was Lovie Smith’s assistant, who’s a disciple of Dungy.

by Bpeter289 on Nov 22, 2011 9:43 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Nice post

Think of the orginal Tampa 2 prototype backer. Derrick Brooks in TB, he’ll be a HOFer some day Giants don’t have anyone like that on their roster. May WIlliams 2 years from now can be a similar player but you’re right Tampa 2 requires very good and very smart backers.

by Landeta on Nov 22, 2011 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Playoff picture.....

Did Jerry Jones or one of the other NFC owners put the Giants schedule together. Obviously whoever made this schedule was trying to make sure the Giants don’t make it to the post season.. Don’t know if there is another team with such a brutal schedule and even if we have success with the remaining schedule we are gonna be so beat up not sure how far we could go,
Can one of you experts break down why the Giants are the only team in the division playing both Green bay and the Saints.,

I think John Mara really wants

Coughlin gone, so he persuaded the schedule makers to giv this to us so that he can fire him w/o any problems! (jus my personal opinion) and he and JR were in kahoots on this Invis-O-Line to take away what he believes in the most: Beig Physical and establishing the run! End result: Bill Cowher by Febuary

my issues w Fewell have been well documented

and the ADHD tag is more than appropriate.

having said that….this loss wasn’t on him. It was on the Offense.

fact is though, a better scheme prolly could kept VY and the Eagles in single digits….

and the other fact is, we still gotta play NO, GB, and Dallas twice….and i’m not sure how this D will fair vs. better teams.

Problem is on this site

if you complain after a win you’re told to shut up we won the game didn’t we, just enjoy it. Then if we complain after a loss we are told to step back from the ledge. That begs the question when can I express displeasure with the coaching staff or players for that matter!

Just post what you feel and do not worry too much about defending your point of view.

Pointing out the issues is very important. Post it when you think it needs to be pointed out and sit back and let others argue over it. Usually you can see people on both sides of any argument here. You can add comments to people who agree with your point f view. This is one approach. You can also comment on people who criticize your point of view. Do not worry about convincing people. They can have their point and you have yours. You still are on the same team, The New York Football Giants. Both points of view mean well.

At the beginning of the season if someone said we would hold the Eagles to 17 points, I would have said we'll win.

There are issues on offense and defense both with coaching and playing. However, OL is the real culprit. 29 yards! Not play calling.

I think we should be rooting for all the teams leading their divisions to keep winning.

If GB loses to Detroit then it’s gonna be easier for the Lions to grab a wildcard. The way it looks 10-6 might not cut it again this year.

Tuck is right on. He's hurting the team. Move Kiwi to end, and shut Tuck down for the season.

So we start some rookies at LB. Can’t be any worse than what we’ve seen. I think Boley can hold Herz and Jones together enough, or go the three safety route. Tuck is invisible. Zero penetration, and can’t get there to stop the run either.

by nygmen123 on Nov 22, 2011 8:18 PM EST reply actions

Fewell

The Giants are without Boley, the WILL. Instead of replacing him with JWILL, a player who has played that role in numerous games this season, he opts for Herzlich. Not only was Sunday’s game his first start, it was his first defensive snap of the season. Then add the fact that Herzlich is a SAM and is ill-equipped for the responsibilities of the WILL

This is how Fewell uses his players. He takes a hexagon and tries to fit it in a parallelogram. He’s always confident the week before the game. To listen to him in interviews is to think that we have Belichick circa 1990 on the staff.

We need to earn our playoff spot. Win out and we have no issues period. That what needs to happen. So Giants all this anger you have better fuel it for next few weeks because it maybe over come monday night. We ARE NOT getting a wild card. Not with the loses we have.

We have so many injuries onceagain which seems to happen every year now. Now we go to N.O. …..Anyone remember what happened last time? Im not sure this team is any better equipped to handle elite passing teams this year. They could easily be 8-8 again if they lose these next two games.
