Fire Coughlin

I learned a lot of things in the first quarter from a bunch of people I've never seen here before in the game thread.

I'd just like to run through those things real quick, because I thought I had learned a lot of things here in the last three years but I was clearly living in a dream (team - ha!) world.

Star-divide

1. Perry Fewell clearly threw that game on purpose. C'mon Perry -- 4 field goals in three quarters? You are clearly incompetent at best, and working for the Eagles at worst. You are unqualified to be a DC. No pressure has nothing to do with SF's Offensive Line, it's because you failed miserably.

2. Eli Manning is an incompetent interception machine. It's time to see what David Carr can do.

3. We need to draft an impact linebacker in the first round next year, even if we need to trade all 7 of our draft picks to move up.

4. Fire Clawfin! He will never win a Superblow.

5. The difference between our horrible season and being a surefire Superball winner? Two words: Nnamdi Asomugha.

6. Should we possibly organize a boycott of the next home game?

7. Kevin Killdrive sucks. He doesn't understand that he has a subpar quarterback, and his game plans are why the Giants are 1-8 right now.

8. Romo > Eli.

9. This is a complete list with 9 items, because nobody thinks of things in segments of 10.

Your sarcasm tries to deny the fact that we have serious problems...

Which we do, in fact, have. Sorry to rain some truth on your post, but…

How about fire Fewell and bring back Spags when he’s fired? No amount of sarcasm can hide the fact that we need to do something with our D. We’re 31st in pass D and until this game we couldn’t stop the run. We should NEVER just be rushing 3! Brandon Jacobs needs to run VERTICLE, Ware shouldn’t be running on 3 and 1!

Should we have won this game? I dunno, 49ers came out and player their game and won. We should have beaten the skins and Seahawks. Good football teams don’t lose to teams like that. They just don’t. Now we are in a precarious position. We only have a game on dallass and we’re staring at the rought end of our schedule.

6-3

With a loss to the Seahawks at home and a loss to the last place team in our division (Redskins) is certainly a reason to be alarmed!

I need to correct my previous post. I heard Troy Aikmen say we we’re 31st in pass D, but NFL.com says we are 17th. We are 17th in Yards, 21st in points and 19th in Rush D going into this game. Why a loss defended Fewell’s mediocrity I’ll never know.

the team that won the SB last year lost to Miami, Washington and detroit for 3 out of its 6 losses

do you think they were alarmed? Or did they just play week to week, get in the playoffs then go on a run?

This isn’t the BCS. This isn’t college football. The worst team in the NFL isn’t that far off from being a playoff team and the best team in the NFL isn’t far off from being winless.

Big Blue in tx, we are Giants fans here and absolutely hate this loss we just had. We did not lose to a bad team at all and they now are 8-1. We played very good against a very good team in the league and that game could have gone either way. The only loss this year that is questionable is the Seahawks one. Redskins beat us in the 1 game of the season when we were missing starters on defense (this does not include the IR list).

Loss to the 49ers is not the end of the world and our season is not over. This is not like last two years when we collapsed. There are 7 more games to play and winning the division is very possible for us. Yes our running game is not good but we were out our starter today.

Defense held them to FGs for a long time. We do need to pressure the passer more which we forgot to do today. They out coached us. When the season started we were not a 16-0 team. There were going to be some losses. We still can win the division. Just a few years ago we won the big one on wild card with a 10-6 record.

Bad seasons and games can happen. This was a bad game. Our season is safe. There is no need to panic. Mistakes do happen and losses too. I was reading some people’s signatures in here and found this by one of our Giants’ faithful’s nic: To err is human. To forgive is divine.

Keep the chin up my fellow Texan (in case you are Texan). We are the Giants. We will not have a bad season this year. Keep posting here. I do want to hear more from you.

Not mad about the loss to the 49ers

They are a better team and we played them in their house.

I’m questioning why PF who has been running our defense poorly all season gets vindication when we lose. I assume “Fire Fewell, bring back Bill Sheridan” is meant to poke fun at people saying that PF needs to go, yet all season our D has been underperforming. And we just lost. And now he’s being defended. That is what I’m questioning. And Quinn needs to be summarily executed at halftime against the egals.

The other thing I was pointing out was we lost to two bad teams that we should have beaten. The skins and Seahawks (at home). Those games could keep us out of the playoffs. I don’t want the Giants forgetting about them. I want them to take games like that to their graves. They were not better teams than the Giants, the Giants just failed. And with the last 7 games we have to play and the fact that dallass has a cupcake schedule, we might not make the playoffs.

P.S. I’m not a texan, I’m from Jersey. Got stationed here while in the Marines, and got a job here once I got out. And I HATE dallass almost as much as I love the Giants.

People may be overreacting but..

We lost 2 of 4 to the worst division in football. That was a winnable game yesterday. And while our players make boneheaded plays at the worst possible moments (Manny and Cruz again), changing the KR is not the only change that needs to be made. The playcalling in key moments is atrocious. I’d like to see Coughlin or Eli take over playcalling on 4th downs and inside the 20. Or Eli has to audible when it’s a 5-yard out to Ballard from the 10.

If it was 4th and goal from the 1, in the Super Bowl, Gilbride would run Jacobs out wide to the sideline. With a delayed handoff as well. Why can’t we have one quickly-developing play?

honestly

the team is 6-3. Does it really matter how? Would it have been more tolerable for our 3 loses to be against NE, SF and the Eagles (since apparently they were unbeatable when we played them last)?,

I don’t think enough credit/criticism is given to Eli for changing those plays in the final drive. That’s HIM, not Killdrive. Eli’s the one trying to get too cute. He’s the one with the ability to call a run or a pass, trying to throw the defense off all while throwing himself off. Sure, maybe Kildrive shouldn’t even allow a run to be an option, but it was. Eli saw what he thought was there and did it.

As for the quick developing play, that’s Gilbride. The short slants, ins and outs were what got Eli into his rhythm at around the middle of the St. Louis game. It would be nice to see them again, but maybe they ran them too much and Nicks and Ham can’t make those cut cuz their knees hurt.

Its sucks losing. But almost exactly like that Seattle game, the Giants were right there at the end and probably should’ve at worst tied it up. This team will be fine tho.

I just think it’s funny how Eli starts the game 10 for 10, then when he goes 6 for 16 its Gilbride’s fault.

By my count, the Giants made 6 errors on Special Teams yesterday. I’ve never coached professional football, or unprofessional football for that matter, but that sounds like a lot.

The Giants didn’t win yesterday because they had no shot, none. I heard it on TV, the Niners are too good, blah blah blah. To hear Aikman tell it, the Niners defense was a combination of the 85 Bears, The Steel Curtain, and The Justice League of America. And yet somehow the Giants managed to compete for four quarters, as they always do.

We just have individual foul-ups at the worst possible moments. But we also need to show some different looks and offer some element of surprise – when every team plays you the same it should tell you something.

Not sure your point here

You’re happy the Giants lost so that you could be “right”? Getting everyone to agree the defense sucks somehow makes them play better? Being down on people who see the glass half-full compensates for others being down on people who see the glass half-empty?

if you knew me personally you would never question that. I would argue that being “happy” after a loss like many seem to be is wayy worse than being pissed off. Not sure what you’re trying to get at!

My point is

I don’t get what your point is. So if everyone goes all gloom and doom and the season is over and the Giants suck and fire everybody does that make them play better?

I never said any of those things thats the main problem with this site

if you say one negative thing that means you think the Giants suck and everyone should be fired. That’s so far from true. I root harder than anybody but I’m not blind to the problems we have. How does that make me a bridge jumper which is the phrase of the week here!

Did somebody else write your sig?

Being blind to the problems is what exactly? And just say everyone is not “blind” to said problems all of a sudden, what magically happens?

Just because someone doesn’t want to fire someone after a loss doesn’t make that person a Pollyanna homer with rose colored glasses. I personally tend to put much less emphasis on schemes and more on execution. So excuse me if I don’t jump on the “Fire Clawfin”, “Fire Killdrive” and / or “Fire Fewell” band wagons depending on what segment of the team was more directly responsible for the loss.

I changed my sig yesterday

and that’s what I believe should happen. I’ve watched for two years as his schemes have baffled me at times and looked completely useless at times. We all praise Reese for all this talent yet we aren’t playing well on D. I officially give up on Fewell. He is what he is at this point. Does that mean I’m clueless or less of a fan? No, it most certainly doesnt. According to BBV it does though and that’s where we get into problems on this site. Everyone turns their nose up at R44 for being overly supportive of the team yet they’re no better then him. You can see problems with the team you root for I’m not sure why it’s taboo on this site.

the problem is with the people who point out the problems? Most of them do so in an overly dramatic fashion, or they write completely ridiculous things like the examples we see in this Post.

I see alot of good criticism from the same people who get called homers, kool aid drinkers, whatever. It’s the weirdos that have the loud voices after a loss that piss off us positive thinkers.

we all see the problems

this team is flawed, but then again so are the other 31 teams in the NFL.

We all recognize that there are problems, but in the grand scheme of things the Giants problems are much less than many other teams, and not nearly as bad as that game thread, (which is what the post is ripping) would lead one to believe.

I criticize this team excessively, I think Fewell has no balls b/c he doesn’t send enough blitzers, I think Coughlin is far too conservative and classical with his game decisions, I think we underachaive for the talent level that is present. And I have yet to have anyone on this site call me a bridge jumper or anything of that nature.

Your opinion is fine to have

and other people think your opinion is poorly reasoned and unsupportable. Ridiculous even.

If you can’t handle that, and you feel wounded and mocked, maybe, as you suggest, BBV is too much of a “running joke” to be worthy of your time and effort.

I occasionally check out the oft maligned ultimatenyg, which has been very critical of the Giants’ coaches and the JR drafting strategy re: LB’s for a long time. I fully expected them to unload on the Giants on a day after the weaknesses in the second level of the defense may very well have cost them the game. But even though they’re critical and sometimes harsh, they make good points even when I don’t agree with them. . . and about the draft and the harshness of their opinions during the off season, I disagreed practically about all the time.

So imagine my surprise when they did not take a negative approach to the game. Far from it.

In the end, it’s not your differing opinions that make you stand out around here. It’s your thin skinned wounded victim whining and utter lack of humor that make people mock your posts.

Now everyone will say Eli is in Bradys class. F*ck me

So tell me I need a blimp…have all the fun you’d like but this site jumps all over anybody who ways anything bad about the team and it’s a JOKE. Maybe you are the one who needs thicker skin. you havent offered a single thing to improve with the defense. who are you going to sign? which defensive coordinator is available that you really think can do a better job than fewell? youre more than entitled to your opinion, but lets at least have a conversation here, back up your complaints with what you think are legit corrections.

I'm going to let the players do what they are good at

which is attack. Whenever we have a pressure heavy gameplan we succeed. When we sit back we get gashed. How many times must you see the same thing play out before you realize it’s not working? by Plaxico Burress on Nov 14, 2011 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

i agree completely that he hasn't exactly been spags a la 2007

but the guy has been solid. would i like to see more pressure? yeah, i definitely have problems (as most people will admit they have as well on this site) with his soft zone schemes, but our pressure is supposed to come from out ferocious DLine. Kiwi has been amazing yet again in that joker role, and if we had enough healthy bodies (TT, Goff) our D would look alot different.

point is after the lackluster game against the skinzz to open the season, most people had us winning 2 at most. we’re 6-3, so obviously somethings working. I dont care about yardage, our defense is not giving up as many points as we are scoring. it works for green bay, works for new orleans, works for NE most of the time, and it works for me.

Another thing is can we please play DTs at DT and DEs at DE

far too often there is a huge pocket for the QB to step into because the DEs get no push up the middle. That’s a double edged sword too because no push up the middle=Osi loses his effectiveness as a pass rusher.

by jhipko13 on Nov 14, 2011 5:31 PM EST up reply actions

Full Disclosure

I am NOT a big fan of Perry Fewell.

Given our excellent talent level at every position, I feel that we generally underachieve, schematically.

However, I think it’s worth noting that to this point, we have lost our defensive QB in Goff (would we kill Gilbride if Carr had been our QB all season?) and several key defensive backs, not to mention playing several games missing KEY defensive pieces like Tuck and Osi.

In order to play at a high level, a unit needs time to gel and play as one. To this point in the season, aside from two big missing pieces on Goff and Thomas, even the remaining unit has been injured and we have not seen the full group out there together for any multi-game sample.

I could pass judgment and make broad, general condemnations, but given these factors I choose to reserve my judgment until the end of the season. Just something I’ve learned over the years here, to not have knee-jerk overreactions to small and inconsistent samples.

Just kidding. FIRE PERRY FEWELL!

Looking at all those ridiculous

statements that Simmsy listed for us, I was trying to pick the most, ahem…. “insightful” one.

It’s not easy with such gems like, “We need to see what David Carr can do.”
Or how we need to possibly trade an entire draft to get an impact LB.
Maybe Nnamdi being the difference between a Superblow winner and loser is the smartest one. I’ll just go ask at BGN.

But I think my vote would have to go to “Should we possibly organize a boycott for the next home game?” Yes, this is what needs to be done. That will teach those players and coaches to dare lose a game.

I didn’t know we had such genius here at BBV

Thank you BBV

For keeping things light after a loss.

But I still maintain that coaches know better than we do. They see the All-22 footage, they look at film all week and, quite frankly, they’ve been at it for longer than anybody here. We can try to have a debate about replacing coaches and coordinators with somebody who seems to execute a different and more effective game-plan, but saying “We should have blitzed…the QB throws worse when he’s under pressure!!!!” after we rush 4 is dumb. There’s obviously more to coaching than we see, and we should trust the ownership and GM to make the right moves personnel-wise.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
