Earlier today we talked about the New York Giants kickoff return job seemingly being up for grabs. Well, this afternoon special teams coordinator Tom Quinn revealed -- intentionally or not -- what the long-range return game plan appears to be for the Giants.
"Jerrel (Jernigan) is a guy we want to see run the ball and Da'Rel (Scott) is a guy too so we have been working them in and getting them to a point where Jerrel can be the punt returner and Da'Rel can be the kick returner," Quinn said. "We haven't gotten to that point yet."
Jernigan will not be in the mix this week after suffering a hip injury on his only kickoff return Sunday against New England. Coach Tom Coughlin even referred to him as "one-play JJ."
There is, of course, much sentiment in the fan base to see Scott get more opportunities.
"Da'Rel is someone we have been working with since day one. We will see how it plays out the rest of the week," Quinn said. "He is fast so you would like to put the ball in his hands at some point."
