Ask Field Gulls
Hello Giants fans! I'm RagingAlot from Field Gulls, the Seahawk SBN Nation site.
We are coming over this week to hopefully beat the crap of of you win against you in Metlife Stadium.
This is a thread for Giants fans asking Seahawks fans about all things Seahawks.
Looks like you guys are having fun at FG.
What we have in common:
- We have old coaches. OLD. Did you know Pete Carroll is the second oldest HC in the NFL?
- Blue uniforms?
- NFC teams? Help me out here!
Some basic info about us:
- Earl Thomas is a stud.
- Tarvaris Jackson is actually not a bad quarterback, contrary of what many pundits believe (but he is still not that good).
- Our backup Charlie Whitehurst is actually Jesus.
- We are a young team who will experience some growing pains,
- [I'll let Field Gulls and other better posters than I to elaborate on more Seahawk stuff]
Have fun, trash talk if you like and as always, lets stay classy fellow football fans.
My questions to you: You guys nearly got beaten by the Cardinals, how is the general mood here at Big Blue View?

Why do Seattleites hate the Giants so much?
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
thank you!
I asked them the same question….they told me i was crazy.
…and than the moderator sent me a warning, called me a dick, and threatened to ban me.
and I’m the crazy one.

It's an honest question
I see a lot of vitriol out of Seattle for the Giants. It doesn’t make any sense to me.
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
Don't know. Maybe it's just human nature to naturally be jealous with successful teams.
I don’t hate any teams in the NFL. It just gets sticky with overreactions and all.

could it be

because there is a hamburger joint out there called Dicks, I think they are misunderstood over there, very sarcastic board, if you take things that are said half serious over there your better off.

I don’t get to see to many seatte games so, on the Seahawks defense who are the under the radar players that will give us trouble?

Besides ET...
… we don’t really have any game changing players you should worry about.
Our safety tandem though is one of the youngest, and badass too!
Our D-line is stout, in the run game, I guess.

it's all fun and games until you remove someone's right to comment
and if you are going to temporarily ban someone….spare me the diatribe

It's funny how sites that encourage stuff then get all touchy when you poke back
I was shocked at the BGN bans. Considering that BGN is just about the wild west of SB Nation, the stuff that was drawing bans was small potatoes.

In their defense the were in shock when the lost to us, so Giant fans gloating was prolly taken a little bit more seriously at that time.

I didnt’ even do anything…
well sorry…I was told i couldn’t use “w/” i had to type “with”…that’s why.
and some of these guys over here think Bri is quick w/ the ban-hammer….sheesh
TeamJPP
funny thing is
I usually give a couple warnings before you get the ban hammer… that is more lenient than most places.
I'm just thinking that if your going to post a "satirical" piece that is basically a hate piece
You need to expect a bit of a spit storm, especially from Steeler/Giants/Cowboys/Pats fans, just cause there are so many of them.
And I accept that the piece was satirical, but then aren’t Andi’s questions satire as well? He didn’t say anything bad about Seattle folk.

being banned from BGN
is like being banned from the lower level of a port-a-potty.
I’m proud to have spent the greater part of the past 4 years banned from BGN. First for saying Asante Samuel left the 18-1 Patriots for Philly for the paycheck (not his best chance to win a Superball); secondly for saying Sorry for Your Loss (to the Giants)

I don't think you guys should be worried about our rushing threat.
Especially if our offensive line is one of the youngest in the league. It’s hasn’t developed to the ability that they they can work together consistently.
We are probably gonna run mostly to Osi’s side, though.

What’s up with your O-line, are they getting better at protecting the QB

Tom Cable threatened them with a thousand years of pain if they can not get their stuff together.
Or maybe they are just getting to know each other better, therefore understanding adjustments faster and doing blocking assignments correctly.

Is Cable a whack job?

And I think having to work under Al Davis would make anyone act weird.
Never knowing if you’re going to be fired for winning a game, or be forced to play a horrible player because they look good in short-shorts… I think ANYONE’s nerves would be frayed (to say the least).
ET
that was my pick in the draft before we acquired Rolle via FA.
Glad to see he’s working out.

Thanks. How is your first draft pick in 2010, Jason Pierre-Paul?

That might seem like an exaggeration
but it’s really not. He has the kind of physical skills to be that good. He’s been showing glimpses of it already.

+2
JPP may actually be BETTER than Peppers.
1) Peppers’ motor can sputter at times, JPP’s runs wide open all the time, every time.
2) JPP gets to learn his craft from Justin Tuck, Jason Tuck, and Osi.
I love the Tuck Brothers!

He wasn't their pick
and he’s been a disappointment since he came in. If they can flip him for something of value, then great!
It isn't too early. It's probably far too late.
Now everyone knows he’s a useless bust and total liability. I don’t expect to fetch more than a 7th for him, if we don’t cut him outright by next season.

Funny I think he could do well here (assuming he's healthy)
He has the size and speed we need behind our DEs at SLB. But if he’s lost on the field it won’t matter
Thanks

His speed is negated by the fact that he takes terrible angles, has awful redirecting ability, and is a poor tackler.
His size isn’t remarkable for an LB.

How has Zach Miller looked?
I know a LOT of Giants fans wanted him… instead we wound up losing our starting TE to oakland facepalm
(unless you believe Ballard is either a clone of Boss, or Boss in disguise… I’m inclined to believe both of these)
Hasn't done much yet.
He’s made a noticeable impact as a blocker, and due to the overall struggles of the offensive line, he’s hasn’t been involved in the passing game that much.

A few questions
1) What are your thoughts about Pete Carroll as coach? While he led you guys to a playoff win last year, do you think his coaching style will give you guys continued success in the NFL?
2) When I heard that Tavaris Jackson was signed as your QB, I was puzzled as I figured Whitehurst had shown enough to be a NFL QB. In watching limited games in Minnesota, I never saw anything in Jackson that he could be a good NFL QB. After watching him in the preseason and 4 NFL games, do you feel that Jackson has been better/worse/about the same as advertised? Do you think you got an upgrade over Whitehurst or do you feel that Whitehurst got a raw deal?
Now, kids, being eaten by a crocodile is just like going to sleep; in giant blender.
A few answers
1) He has his supporters and detractors. For the moment, I’d say the vast majority of fans support PC and his ‘rah-rah’ coaching style. He’s fun to watch, his players have bought into it on an individual and team level and the intense competition caused by all that roster churn has given us a few gems. Big Mike Williams (BMW) isn’t a #1 WR but is a very nice #2. Brandon Browner isn’t a great CB, but is a HUGE upgrade over Kelly Jennings (literal and figurative sense, the position went from 5-10 to 6-4 and although he still gets burned, at least he can jam pretty good and absolutely destroys screen passes and flats) and we found a great use for DE Red Bryant as the guy can stuff the run pretty dang well.
2) We grabbed T-Jack because we also stole Minnesota’s top WR and their OC. In the situation we were in, we needed another QB and T-Jack fit the bill and also cost about $8 mill and a stud CB less than Kolb did. The idea was that he was falling into a good situation and he’d be able to make a good transition following the shortened off-season.
All in all, he has been about as good as advertised. No one here in Seattle fooled themselves into thinking he was going to be a Pro-Bowler or anything like that. We wanted a place holder until the 2012 Draft and someone who could hold down the fort for a year or two while we trained the QBotF.
As for the debate over Clipboard Jesus…eh. Believe me it’s been a pretty lively debate over at Field Gulls. I tend to fall on the side of supporting the coaches and if T-Jack gets injured (pretty likely given our O-Line’s inexperience) we’ll be able to continue on without too much drop in talent. I would have liked for PC to have thrown open the QB competition, but concede that he didn’t have a full off-season to do it.
Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence lies in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.

who were the big names, and how are they panning out?

Russell Okung has looked good to outstanding at LT.
He’s had some trouble with ankle injures but if he continues to stay healthy we’re very comfortable with him manning the blind side.
Earl Thomas looks like a top young DB talent. Great instincts and is effective against both the run and the pass.
Walter Thurmond was initially projected to start at CB but was bothered by an ankle injury in camp that slowed his progress down.
Kam Chancellor succeeded Lawyer Milloy as the starting strong safety and has looked very good, though he missed the last game with a thigh injury.

I'll add a little to Fearless Frog's points
Round 2: Golden Tate, WR. He may be a victim of circumstances. Wasn’t a good route-runner last year but continues to flash the promise that made us grab him, he is part of what I believe (eh, bit of hometown bias) is an above-average corp of receivers. At this point, he may have been passed up by an unexpected gem of an UDFA named Doug Baldwin
Round 6: Anthony McCoy, TE. Real bargain for us, he was strongly expected to go in the 2nd-3rd round range, but got caught smoking pot before the combine and so we snagged him in the 6th. Good blocker but can also slip down field better than you’d expect.
Round 7: Jameson Konz, TE. I mention him simply because he’s still with the team albeit on the practice squad. VERY athletic: 6’3", 225lbs, 4.41 40yrd, 46" vertical.
Also, since we picked him up in the draft, I think we need to mention that we got Leon Washington and a 7th round pick for our 4th round pick. Needless to say, we’ve been pretty happy about the deal.
Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence lies in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.

Why does Seattle sign a big money receiver every year?
how many times does it have to fail before they stop?
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Rice isn't like the others.
Burleson was a revenge move against Minnesota for snatching Steve Hutchinson, and he had his contract restructured to something more reasonable soon and was a fairly decent if unspectacular starter.
Branch was a terrible acquisition and wasn’t worth the 1st draft pick or money.
Houshmandzadeh was also a bad addition, considering his age and already limited skillset. He was signed so we could ignore Michael Crabtree and draft Aaron Curry.
Rice has injury issues but he’s already demonstrated he’s a top-flight receiver when he’s on the field, plus I think he is only 25.

Do you miss Matt Hasselback?
I always liked Matt and let me tell you why. When I was 17 I had this girlfriend who’s father is the head coach and athletic director of a big time jersey city prep school. they had an awesome practice field so sometimes when away teams were playing the jets, the away team would practice there. My girlfriend at the time’s father took us to the Giants Steelers game that Sunday but we had to stop at the field to open it for, none other than, the Seattle Seawhawks, as they were playing the Jets I believe on Monday night or something. (Jerry Rice was on the team and let me say that watching him practice was a thing of beauty.) Anyway, I had on my high school football varsity jacket and Matt Hasselback walked right up to me. He gave me a hat, shook my hand, introduced himself as just “Matt,” and was just a genuinely nice guy. He made small talk, hung around and talked to the other kids on the practice field, and really made an impression on me. From that moment on I’’ve always liked Matt Hasselback, so I want to know how Seahawks fans view him.
