Giants' Roster Moves: Stokley, Rosenfels Gone, Cordle, Tryon Added
The New York Giants today signed offensive lineman Jim Cordle off the practice squad and added free agent cornerback Justin Tryon. The team terminated wide receiver Brandon Stokley's contract with an injury settlement and terminated the contract of quarterback Sage Rosenfels and removed him from injured reserve.
Because they added two players and subtracted just one, the Giants will announce an additional roster move on Wednesday.
The team also announced that offensive lineman Selvish Capers has been signed to the practice squad.
Tryon, 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, is a four-year pro. He spent his first two years with the Washington Redskins and the 2010 season - plus the first three games of the current season - with the Indianapolis Colts. Tryon was released by the Colts on Sept. 28.
Tryon has played in 44 regular-season games with eight starts and he started the only postseason game in which he played, the 2010 AFC Wild Card Game vs. the Jets. His career totals include 82 tackles (65 solo), one interception, one sack and 10 passes defensed. He has also returned 14 kickoffs for a 21.4-yard average.
Tryon entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft choice (124th overall selection) from Arizona State by the Redskins in 2008.
On Sept. 4, 2010, Tryon was traded by the Redskins to Indianapolis. Last year with the Colts, he played in 12 games with six starts and had career highs in tackles (44, 34 solo) and passes defensed (seven). Tryon had three tackles and an interception in the postseason game vs. the Jets.
Tryon had seven tackles while playing in the first three games this season.
Cordle is a center who spent the entire 2010 season on the Giants' practice squad. Starting center David Baas sat out the second half of the Giants' comeback victory in Arizona on Sunday after aggravating a burner. Cordle, 6-3 and 320 pounds, was signed to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 3 and was with the team in training camp before being waived in the final cutdown on Sept. 3. He was re-signed to the practice squad two days later.
Stokley, a 13-year veteran, signed with the Giants on Sept. 15. He caught one pass, a seven-yarder in the victory at Philadelphia on Sept. 25. Stokley suffered a quad injury last week in practice and did not travel with the team for Sunday's victory in Arizona.
Rosenfels, the Giants' backup quarterback in 2010, suffered from a strep throat and then back soreness during the preseason. He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 3.
Capers, 6-5 and 315 pounds, was a 2010 seventh-round draft choice by the Redskins from West Virginia. He was released at the end of training camp and spent the 2010 season on Washington's practice squad. Capers was signed to a reserve/future contract after the season and was waived on Sept. 3.

let's just hope the move isn't someone new to IR
not mentioning any C recent FA acquisitions by name or anything.

almost like
they got bad tests today, want to get a second opinion tomorrow before pulling that trigger.
But by promoting Cordle, they already know he’s not playing this week.

Maybe the Eagles can sign Stokley too
By the way, through four games Smith has 8 targets with the Eagles. I hope it was worth it, Steve.
Team Ghost: Manningham, Sintim, Beckum, Barden, JPP, Anvil, Ross
yeah bummer for him
had a chance to be a franchise type player, took the quick check and will now be a journeyman of sorts
he'll lucky to ever again find the chemistry he had with Eli
He’s a great receive but just avg in most systems.

Selvish Capers was one of those guys that were thought to be a 2nd-3rd round guy
but plummeted for obviously the right reasons, he hasn’t made it anywhere. He’s a great athlete tho, seems like a solid developmental OT but he’ll probably never amount to anything
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
True, but the Giants have good offensive line coaching...
so if there remains anything worth getting, I suspect we’ll have a shot at getting it, but if Capers bombs with the G-men as well, I think it’s time for him to start looking for a non-football career. Overall I like the pickup, as the guy has upside and it’s not costing us a fortune to see if we can tap into it.
I’m guessing they say goodbye to Brian Williams
Stokely leaving means they feel his quad/kneel won’t heal before the Pharoah returns in 3 weeks…

I'm hoping it's this, and Baas is just out for a few weeks, and Prince is progressing

I'm hoping Baas doesn't miss any time
But they have been eerily quiet regarding his neck.
and IMO Prince doesn’t need to rush back. He’s still got growing pains to go through and if he doesn’t see the field until after the bye then I wouldn’t be upset.

They might as well
since he’s been in the Witness Protection program, hey Brandon, we hardly knew you!

why was Rosenfels put in IR?
He was costing us too much money and instead of waiving him we put him on IR. Then there were some preseason games that he could not play because of strep throat. That’s bad. He seemed like a nice guy and I am not trashing him but why did front office cling on to him then put him on IR?
Let's Go Giants!
Tis a puzzlement
The only thing I could think of was that it was going to take a while to reach an injury settlement because there was a difference of opinion regarding whether it was illness or injury. Or there was some sigining bonus that would be forfeited if he was waived as opposed to put on IR. Or maybe the injury settlement was that he would be kept on the roster for 4 games for the salary plus he accrued more pension service time.
I never know what the legal and cap implications of Waived – Injured status is so I couldn’t get my head around it, but ….obviously….its been bugging me too.

Yeah it had to be some legal stuff
and to let him hit some level so that he does not lose some bonus/pension time.
Let's Go Giants!
Justin Tryon seems like a very good pickup.....
He was on the Colts until last week. On their SB Nation site most said he was either their best cover corner or tied w\ Jeraud Powers. Seems like he would be an ideal nickel back to cover the slot and let Antrel go back to CF and get more picks. He,s smallish but fast and quick with good coverage ability. they prob drop a DB. Reason he was let go is some kind of political infighting between def coordinator, head coach and GM. See the thread and commentary from a week ago and it explains it. Most colt fans wanted him starting let alone released and seems like the DCfelt the same way. Very smart pickup.

Thx.. It seems like a nice little gem JR found.
Kid is a good KR as well.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
Giant LB'z SUCK!!? Mark Herzlich, Greg Jones,Williams,Paysinger...Maybe not..
i'm thinking...
maybe Prince isn’t progressing as fast as they hoped. maybe they’re worried he won’t be worried as soon as they had hoped, and want CB depth.
Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....

I think regardless of how his injury is progressing, Prince is a rookie corner back who literally missed all of training camp, save for one practice. Signing a veteran corner that can contribute immediately is a no-brainer, since Prince’s learning-curve has, in all likely hood, been shifted a year in the wrong direction.
I don't expect
a big contribution this year at this point, unless Ross falters later this season?
He is so far behind the eight ball now…

I hadn’t heard about Tryon until I read this last week. The article makes it sound like this guy is a very capable corner. Let’s hope so.
I thought we already had an extra roster spot....
…or did we pick up someone when Hixon went on IR?

Roster moves
These are the transactions from Sept. 23rd 2011:
Michael Clayton signed.
Ryan Perrilloux practice squad addition.
Domenik Hixon Placed on IR (torn right acl).
Chris Hogan practice squad deletion.

I think Brian Williams is going and Cordle will start for Baas
hopefully, baas is not hurt badly.
Cordle
is not going to start, added to roster for depth, was on the PS!

Maybe they expect Baas to start, but want a practiced C ready in case the stingers act up
Boothe wasn’t bad cept of the one play, he was serviceable
But having Cordle ready is better
It’s already a wrap… might as well not show up tomorrow.

Good news is no Justin Trattou. Although it kinda blows too.
Tuck should be ok.

nothing...it just means that we'll be at full strength at DE soon.
If Tuck’s injury was real bad, I’d think they’d have gone Trattou’s way instead of Tryon.

Have we used our 3rd CB this season??
For this year he gives us a good nickel (if you believe reports out of Indy), if Prince comes back he’s a dime
And if they keep him into next yr it’s insurance for losing someone in FA
Just seems like a solid move to me

Hmmm..Sounds like some good moves...
But my question is whywould anybody get rid of Tryon???…With his stats, who would let him loose?…There’s gotta be something wrong with that guy and it doesn’t seem like it is physical…He must have problems with his noggin…We’ll see..I hope he isn’t a nutcase.

Some tussle
It seems that HC and DC had some issues over him. DC wanted him to play and HC did not want to. Someone posted a link somewhere up here on this page that covers the issue.
Let's Go Giants!
Hey thanks BB...
Looks like we got a good player..Jurys still out but given what that article says I think Tryon was gettting screwed..we’ll see..

You Are welcome
Yes it does look like a good pick. There is an impression that he might have issues with his mouth but I am sure he will be fine for us. Just in case he runs his mouth I did post a blimp pic to him on another page here. LOL.
Let's Go Giants!
They'll just have to make sure he hangs out with Rolle..
They’ll be too busy trying to outdo each other to get any bad dumb press out in public..lol

This does not bode well at all
Bass is either done or out for an extensive amount of time. Would feel better with Kotes and not Booths Beach Ball ass snapping it to Eli. This league is becoming a joke with injuries if you play in 10 games in any given season your lucky, you can’t even take it seriously.
good point
Especially considering the owners were wanting the 18 game schedule. Can you imagine this years Giants team if they had to play 18 regular season games?
Yeah the last two games televised live from re-hab hospitals across the country..
Shit these guys can’t last two games..Where the hell is Jim Mora when you need him..“18 games?..Are you kidding me?..18 games?”..

Fubar you want to comment on the stinger
they make it sound like it’s not that serious, but I heard the guy still can’t turn his neck, I think we should count Bass out of the next game hopefully he didn’t do any disc damage becuase we need him back. Tuck is starting to sound like he may be shut down for a couple of games.

This could be precautionary
Rather than to ride the storm out with the “beach ball”, bring in the youngster and get him up to speed ASAP. This way, you may have more flexibility and buying some time for Baas. As far as i’m concerned, Baas and Tuck should be shut down until after our bye week. Three weeks should be ample enough time for a prognosis?!
Good luck Jim Cordle.
Hope you get the center job for a long time.

Baas
This guy has had some great momentum of late I hate to lose him now.
Silly names
Always liked that name “Selvish Capers” and David Baas is not bad either. All we need now for the ultimate silly offensive line is Richie Incognito and D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and, er, one other guy with a weird name. Can’t think of any others.
