Victor Cruz (Keep ya head up)

Hakeem is going to benefit alot with Cruz on the field.  He has come very big and yet made a few critical mistakes that cost us the game.  The play call, tough to question but if he doesn't slip then that may have been a touchdown or at worst the ball on the 2.  He caught that ball one handed anyways at least until he got hit.  He made two ridiculous plays that gave us the chance to win that game.  Cruz is very young still, in relative terms to the NFL.  He is already making huge plays in the passing game for us.  He is going to have some growing pains.  You wanted him to break out didn't you.  Teams will struggle to cover Hakeem Mario and Cruz if they are on the field at the same time.  Teams will also have to respect Cruz beating them deep or burning them for a big play which opens up the game for Nicks.

Yes I realize he cost us the game here but Victor Cruz has arrived fellas.  If the dude somehow doesn't keep posting these types of games it's because teams are shading a safety on him more and Nicks and Ham are eating up the coverage.

My views on the team:  I live and die with team every Sunday.  Win or lose.  Like Tupac, I always keep my head up.  We still had a chance to win that game at the very end.  We played like shit this past Sunday.  That will happen over the course of a season.  We will lose another game this season with how many tough opponents we have on the schedule.  All hope is not lost.

I ain't mad at cha wang.

Cruz is making rookie mistakes. He has to learn that if he catches the ball short of a first down, sometimes it is best to go down instead of fighting for more yardage. The potential to be a great receiver is there though and with his past performances, I have no doubt that he will only get better. I just hope that the Giants have the money to keep him when and if it comes to that.

I dont think it was Victor Cruz that cost us the game

I would say our defense making Whitehurst and Jackson look like legit NFL QB’s and our OL playing pathetic cost us the game. Cruz slipped, cant blame him for that. He also had a bad fumble I agree, but not for him and Eli we arent even in the game.

With eli and cruz. Someone can’t be blamed for losing a game when they are the reason you had a chance to win. We can point fingers every were, but the team is to blame at the end of any game.

yea it doesn't make sense

Cruz is even more of a bonehead then Manningham ever was, but just as explosive and SUAMBP. Manningham’s a better player…if anything he should be the one we’re saying ‘keep ya head up’ to.

How is he more of a bonehead?

He did have a fumble, but he really has only played in 3 regular season games. How can you say he is more so than Manningham. The one who just gave himself a concussion but not cleanly catching a pass and falling and hitting his head. The guy who still runs a lot of wrong routes? Cruz will still run a wrong route, but has far less time in this offense. I like Ham dont get me wrong, but you cant possibly think that at this point in their careers Cruz is the bigger bonehead.

by Giants56 on Oct 12, 2011 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

you can absolutely say Cruz is more of a bonehead.

he’s done a boneheaded thing in every game he’s played, something that while Ham’s had his moments…it wasn’t every game.

My point is Cruz is only 3 games into his career

Maybe as the season progresses and her gets more reps they stop maybe they dont. It’s a little early in his career to label him anything. Cant say for sure if he is a game changing playmaker or a bonehead.

to follow up on a point i made a few weeks back

Cruz is fortunate to have the Mash squad surrounding him b/c his mistakes can’t keep him off the field.

Barden made a mistake and they inactivated him for 3 straight weeks.

it’s amazing that w/ all the scouting, preperating, etc….that timing and luck play such a huge part in someone’s success in this sport.

one could argue that you make your own luck….

i guess that’s true, but it doesn’t mean the coaches and evaluators don’t make mistakes….and IMO KG and TC did this kid and the NYG a disservice by putting him under the damn microscope like they did.

There's a reason some players do not see the field..

and I assure you it has NOTHING to do with any ONE play. If Barden isn’t getting on the field there’s something they are seeing or not seeing from him that’s keeping him off the field.

Let's take a look at the logic behind this shall we....

they thought enough of him (Barden) to let him play last year week 1.

he dropped a pass that was clearly very high and it went for an INT.

than they inactivated Barden for 3 straight weeks.

Now, how do you have enough confidence in a player to let him play one week and because of 1 drop…you than lose all confidence in said player?

It’s detrimental to development….both of the player, and your team b/c when the did give Barden another chance, he caught 3 passes in one half and looked darn good in doing so.

Do you really think the benching made him come back and play well….or maybe, just maybe they made a mountain outta a mole hill and were too hard on him?

by andiamo708 on Oct 13, 2011 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

and frankly...I don't know how one can openly question the coaches so much

and than turn around and say:

there’s something they are seeing or not seeing from him that’s keeping him off the field.

apparenlty criticizing the coaching when it benefits ones arguement is totally fine….

at the same time supporting them (the coaches) when it suits your arguement is also cool too…

by andiamo708 on Oct 13, 2011 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I just simply stated...

there must be something going on behind the scenes keeping him off the field and not any single play. I didn’t support the move nor did I criticize it. I criticize PF defensive scheme and gave an observation on Barden. See the difference?

I guess

but i interpreted it as “the coaching are keeping him off the field b/c he doesn’t deserve to play”….not some “behind the scene issue”…i.e. injury or KG’s disdain for being asked repeatedly by the media why he couldn’t get him on the field as a rookie after he killed camp.

and me making a comment to remind everyone just how critical they’ve been of Barden was not to say Cruz doesn’t deserve his credit, it’s just a reminder that hey, young player make mistakes and we shouldn’t write them off.

it wasn’t an effort to “cut anyone slack”….like i do our DBs

Manningham took longer to make an impact

and Barden hasn’t made an impact at all. If MM bursted on the scene like Cruz did making plays that flat out have won us games PHI/ARI then he would have been treated the same. It’s like the slack you cut for DBs because of your obsession with DBs. Fans have an obsession with guys that make game changing plays and it looks like there’s no sign of Cruz slowing down. I believe he has jumped MM on the depth chart and if he hasn’t already he will very shortly

P.S I LOVE Mario Manningham this was not me knocking him in any way. Just gave my opinion is to why Cruz seems to get a pass on his mystifying boneheaded plays!

MM and VC both hit the sceen in their second season….

and both made plays once they got on the field.

and both made mistakes once they got on the field….

Mistakes that both of them were allowed to overcome mainly b/c they made plays a split second prior to their mistakes.

HOwever, the way you and the coachign staff sees it, it sounds like making a mistake prior to making a “play” means you can never be given a second chance….which is short sighted as hell.

how do you draft the guy and give him a chance in the first place only to take it away at the drop of a hat?

where’s the sense in that?

people act like Barden dropped 5 passes and fumbled the GW TD.

and I don’t cut anyone slack…I call it how i see it. Yes, I give Cweb a pass on the Lynch run b/c he’s fighting w/ Rice for the 2.2 seconds it took for Lynch to get past him….and I also pointed out how JPP, JWILL, and D. GRant also contributed to that play…which NO ONE wants to acknowledge apparently.

and how many times have I said Cweb played poorly vs. Washington?!?! or said, he took a bad angle on the Wells run.

It was a coming out party for Cruz. We have three guys who can make game changing plays on the field right now at the WR position. That’s a good thing.

Manningham and Barden….just go play in traffic already

it’s a light hearted comment in response to Ghost stu…

what i said above in regards to Cruz benefiting from the injuries around him is still how I feel….

I mean honestly, do you think if Hixon didn’t tear his ACL again (especially after that TD catch) that Cruz would have been out there as much as he was vs. Philly?

I’m just asking honeslty, b/c I don’t think he would have….i think KG and TC woulda have rode Hixon as much as possible.

it’s not a knock at all on Cruz, it’s just a show of support to our existing NYGiant Players….and an effort to point out the deficiencies of this coaching staff when it comes to tunnel vision.

I would love to see Barden come in and contribute. You think I like that Beckum hasn’t caught so much as a cold in NY.

I just tried to give a reason for the love affair with Cruz.. Maybe the fact he’s a local kid plays into it too. I never said I agree with it either.

me too, and I hope that giants fans undertand that you don’t have to come in w/ a bang either to be a success….these young players are gonna make mistakes, but we can’t kill them after 1 mistake! nor can we annoint them after 1 good play. B/c we’ve all seen it w/ Cruz now (he can give it and take it away)….so let’s bear that in mind

I honestly don’t know what DB’s have to do w/ this either but either way….if i’m getting blammed for cutting Barden some slack b/c he dropped 1 pass, than i’ll take that blame….gladly.

when the evidence presents itself...

and until than, i’ll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt.

and it’s not like he’s a chronic injury case….it’s just been 1 injury and at least 2 procedures on the same ankel that we know of.

they hid injuries to Rocky Bernard and Madison Hedgecock and let the fans think what the want, and than a year later it’s “oh yeah, Rocky had an injury that IR’s most guys” and “oh btw, Hedgeock has degenerative back disease”.

I would love Barden to be able to come in and contribute. Alot of people were skeptical about Victor Cruz. They all said let’s see him do it in a regular season game. Well he is producing. He is actually the focal point of our offense right now. Well him and Nicks. Since we can’t run the ball…Cruz has been electric to say the least, yes I did mention he has a had a few mistakes. Ones that he should learn from and get better. I mean the dude gets to catch passes from Eli frickin Manning. Of course he is going to be a stud.

for what it's worth...

I knew exactly where you were coming from w. this post…

I know you weren’t meaning anything negative to barden or MM by this comment other than a show of support to VC.

the fact is, I made a comment in response to Ghost (who really started it btw), but it was light hearted and wasn’t to excuse anyone of giving TOO much credit to Cruz, heck he deserves it. At the same time, he gotta protect the rock better, it happens, he’s a kid.

also, at the same time, let’s be real, Barden gets killed by a lot of people on this board….and MM always gets made fun of for his mistakes and what not….I’m guilty of doing it myself.

Cruz I think flies under the radar in that regard b/c A) like you said he does make plays that off set the mistakes and B) he was an UDFA.

Fans are crazy, if you get drafted in the top 3 rounds that’s it….People are checking for you. media is asking about you. JR says he expects you to “contribute”. It’s not like being an UDFA….who may not even be expected to make the team. So you’re not under the microscope so much.
