Eagles To Franchise Vick, Try To Trade Kolb
Anyone really surprised by the news that the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles will reportedly use the franchise tag on quarterback Michael Vick and try to trade his backup, Kevin Kolb?
Vick could be a free agent if the Eagles don't franchise him, and how could they let him get away after he just put together a Pro Bowl season and took the Eagles to the playoffs.
Vick would earn in the neighborhood of $20 million if he played 2011 under the franchise tag. Amazing that a guy slated to make $20 million doesn't sound thrilled about it.
"You know what? It is what it is," Vick told The Inquirer Sunday after the NFC's lopsided win in the Pro Bowl. "It's great to know they did want to have me around for another year. I'm going to make the most of it, and I'm going to do everything that I'm asked to do, continue to put myself in the position to excel, and help this team win. That's the most important thing - have a better year this year coming up than last year."
Any thoughts on likely landing spots for Kolb? Do you guys see him as a career backup, or is he a legitimate No. 1 quarterback if he lands in the right place?

I think Klob is the next AJ Feeley.
He looked good with the Eagles cuz he’s a good fit there, but how many teams run the Eagles system? If there are any, how many of them have a bunch of speedy little midgets that can run crossing routes so Klob can just Jamie Moyer it out there and they catch it and go wild?
Sad to say there’s a lot of dumb organizations. Also this year’s QB class kinda stinks, so someone will try and get him. Probably for a 2012 first round pick or something like that.
Klob should get nothing more than what the Redskins got for Jason Campbell (4th rounder). I know an Egg fan or two will come on and try and sell us on the cute little offensive player of the week award Klob got twice..but no one cares. Ryan Fitzpatrick was good for 2 weeks in a row, big deal.

This could really be accurate

As an Eagles fan, I’m pretty high on Kolb, but the jury is clearly still out on him.
I think you probably hit the nail on the head here. He’s gonna have value for and will succeed with some teams, and he won’t have value for, and wouldn’t do good in other systems

kolb will be a starter
Where? Who knows. He maybe an avg player but there r some teams out there that would love to have an avg qb that hasn’t peaked yet. I don’t see him getting top dollar but someone will take him.

I'll say the same thing about him that I said about Palmer last week
He’s better than a lot of QBs out there. He may not be a superstar, but he can start for a lot of teams and be an upgrade over what they have now. It’s just a question of what the Eagles want in return. I can’t see anyone giving up a 1st or 2nd round pick for him.

I think he's worth at least a 2nd to the Eagles
if no one offers that, the Eagles keep him and let him go the next year…
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
So they'd rather not get what he's worth
and wait and get nothing for him?
I’d say Klob’s worth a 3rd rounder this year and a conditional pick next year (I’d say a 2nd based on performances). So a backup QB is worth not getting that? Granted with Vick there you’ll probably need a solid backup, but you can always sign one.

I'm not sure how I want it to look
I generally trust our FO…so yeah, I understand the loss of not pulling the trigger on something now and then losing him next year for nothing, but I don’t know what’s worth it…
in reality, this could go several ways that I’d be fine with…I’d be fine even with tagging Vick, and then trading him for a first since I think Kolb is a fine QB and probably has more years in him than Vick…
but we’ll see.
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
agree
IMO the best fit for him..they still have that spread offense out there…so he’ll fit right in..
starter? backup?
I think he’s an avg. starter for a team that likes to spread their offense out… other than that he would be a legit backup
Fire Quin Movement!!
I'd say
traded to ARI, MINN or SF

exactly what I was thinking
Id be suprised if the raiders didnt throw their hat in there too. I am sure Tenn will need a QB here too.
nobody makes me bleed my own blood! - Eli Manning
Cardinals or Vikings
I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t end on one of those two teams. Especially the Vikings which run a west coast type offense.
its almost
the exact same system (unless they make major changes) so he would immediately be better than what they have.
Hmm.. backup that could start traded because the tema has Vick
Sounds awefully Schaubesque to me.
I actually think
he’ll stay with the Eagles another year. The Eagles have to see if Vick can last a whole season any time and whether he was a one season fluke or not.
I’m probably wrong, but hey.

good vick is already 30 and he takes way too many hits…id rather deal with vick for 3 more years than kolb for 12 more
fire quinn/ free plax/get nnamdi
But Wait
Kevin Kolb is so slow, accurate, and a not fast reliable QB. Why would they trade him

Kolb is good enough to start on a number of teams.
I find it hard to believe that the Eagles would consider commiting to Vick without a viable backup. I think Vick has less than 50% chance of playing the whole season wothout serious injury.

VIck
hasn’t played a full season in his whole career. That’s why I think the Eagles don’t trade Kolb unless they get really good value. Our system is hard for a QB to learn, and we’ll definitely need a backup that can play a few games next year
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
Kolb had a couple of good games and a couple of bad ones..
Too early to tell, but the Titans and the Dolphins will be looking..

I heard Bomar will be the starting QB for the Titans and Dolphins next season...
I believe it

Vick
is not happy about the tag because he wanted a long term deal. He has so many people he owes money to as part of his bankruptcy. Until he pays them back, his expenses are managed and he has to live like an average joe
right...and average joe who happens to be the best athlete that has every played any sport...anywhere...anytime...
NOT…
Yes, I said it…NOT…I can’t remember if that was popular in the late 80s or early 90s. Either way…it’s lame now.

Two words: M J

The plan seems more so to franchise him to make sure he's an eagle
then to negotiate with him on a long term deal

Totally disagree. With the tag, he’ll clear $20 million in one season. No way the Eagles want to pay that. They’ll look to get a longterm deal done, but at the same time, they’d be crazy not to tag him and give the rest of the NFL a shot at him.

I'm happy about this
As a Giants fan, I like this move. Yes, I’ll have nightmares about Michael Vick running wild those final 8 minutes for the rest of my life, but I think this is a bad move by the Eagles. Aside from those 8 minutes, Vick’s effectiveness (not to mention health) declined the 2nd half of the season. I suppose I’d be happier if the Eagles signed him to an expensive long-term contract than what looks like a 1-year deal as the franchisee.
I think he either stays another year or goes to San Fran.
I also hope he haunts the Eagles whenever he plays them.

Honestly I'd rather Kolb started than Vick
Vick causes way too many problems for our defense in particular. Kolb runs too but he’s no where near the threat Vick is and Vick throws a better bomb than Kolb. So Vick can escape sacks and throw it over the top of the safeties. No thanks.
