EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eli Manning, Justin Tuck and Chase Blackburn were elected by the Giants players Wednesday as the team's captains for the 2010 season.

Manning will represent the offense, Tuck the defense and Blackburn will be the special teams captain.

Hopefully he plays well so he can do the whole lead by example thing. I like leading by example but I think the giants are lacking a more vocal leadership that will light a fire or create a spark.

Tuck, Rolle, Bulluck

as long as they are healthy, one of them SHOULD step up.

Knowing the type of players that Rolle and Bullock

I would expect them to be leaders…regardless of whether or not they have that “C” on their chests or not.

I wanted to beat him to the punch

Not sure where he is,havent seem him today. Unlike me he might actually be doing work.

I could be wrong

but I think that guy is stepping up and making big plays in the national security / intelligence field… so if he’s off doing work that’s probably a good thing

You play to win the game!

better late than never...

….I appreciate the sentiment, boys. Living 9 time zones away from the EST poses some major challenges, especially between the months of September and February.

Re: the job, for now, I’m on the front lines in the battle against illegal immigration. Needless to say, it’s enough to keep me preoccupied and a field in which I must constantly step up and make big plays.

Step up and make big plays?

by Giants56 on Sep 9, 2010 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope

He is the not the Leader type. Won’t ever be. He’s a guy that is going to do his job, low key and thats it.

Maybe Kenny Phillips if he is starting. Maybe Bulluck, maybe Rolle, we will see. But a tiger can’t change his stripes.

Tuck said he would of last year

but being hurt all year, he did not want take a leadership role because he would not be able to back it up on the field. You might be right, he does seem like he is just a player who does his job.

I'm assuming

last season Pierce was defensive captain. Who was ST captain?

I think

it was Feagles. I’m not 100% sure though. I know he was ST captain a few times.

but I could be wrong

Question for the board

We know what we are up against this Sunday….a run first team. there really are no surprised here right? Run left, run right, throw to Steve Smith….

I guess i’m just wondering how much stock opposing teams are putting into that pre season game vs. the Ravens…..ya’ll remember the “no huddle” game.

Is this a wrinkle teams will add when playing the Giants? Are they prepared for this? Will teams look to pick on our LBs while keeping our Pass Rush on it’s toes??? I’m actually very grateful to those Baltimore Ravens for doing that…..

don't know

if the panthers have the type of offense to go “no-huddle” on a regular basis. But I hope that the D has prepared for it in case the panthers do it but more for the offensive teams coming up, especially with the colts next week.
Not looking ahead to that game, they have to go out and win this one first

by The Always Well Dressed... on Sep 9, 2010 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

well maybe I shoulda rephrased....

clearly i don’t expect them to switch to no huddle all game.

but if I’m fewell I’m bracing myself for that….especially on 3rd downs. Heck if I was Carolina and I saw the Giants flat out blowing assignments….especially on the Goal Line…i’d test ’em.

No huddle.

I dont believe the no huddle offense was the problem. It was just being over matched with guy like courtney brown and dj johnson covering boldin. An also i also dont believe carolina has to offense to run a no huddle consistantly.

Man, Blackburn...

you guys remember when his season was in question a couple weeks ago after that injury? And I think he might be playing against the panthers??

Guy is a WARRIOR and embodies everything about being a Giant. Truly an unheralded hero in Big Blue, and possibly a Pro Bowl special teamer. Congrats on being awarded a captain spot Chase, you deserve it big time.

funny you bring up rudy

yahoo got the original film of the “rudy sack” up on line….saying the movie wasn’t totally accurate….REALLY YAHOO?!?! REALLY??? I’m shocked to learn that what I saw in a movie is no the honest truth….

Of course it made it’s way on line b/c Joe Montana brought it up in an interview.

still, pretty cool to watch the actual play….not sure if i would gave Rudy a sack on that one though….definitely .5 Sack.

Montana interview

just read it this morning, I guess thats why I made the Rudy reference, that was on my mind when Blackburn came up. We all know the movie is not 100% true but its great to see.. its a movie. Did not like that Joe said when Rudy was carried off, it was a joke amoung the team, that seemed like a low-blow to me.

Another ND player came out

and said Montana was full of it and the team did not carry Rudy off as any form of joke. The guy said he was pretty disappointed in Montana.

He's probably miffed

that the movie made no mention that he was the QB at the time. I’m sure he thinks they should have wasted some film on his bit of the story.

Good choices

Tuck hopefully is prepared to be that vocal leader that this defense needs, there are multiple leaders on the defensive end. Rolle, Bullock, once they get comfortable, they can aid in checks and confusing the offense. Every team needs a blackburn, guy breaks his back for opportunities and is a great special teams guy. Eli is a given.

by Phillip P on Sep 9, 2010 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

why blackburn

can we give it to someone on the field like bullock

by SLAUGHTERHOUSE on Sep 10, 2010 2:55 AM EDT reply actions

Thanks McLaren I was having a hard time understanding

Wouldn’t have been sure to say that Blackburn made the team. If he is special teams captain, he might be our most important player.
