ESPN Power Rankings Not Kind to the New York Giants
I saw someone posted this in the comments on Ed's post about the community guidelines, and figured I'd give you all an opportunity to (politely) rip the ESPN voters a new one! Remember the rules, but also remember that John Clayton has no idea what he's talking about.

The most hilarious
thing about this is how upset Matt Mosley of ESPN is. He has the Giants going to the Super Bowl, so he can’t believe this ranking. Neither can I. I also don’t care. Let the games start, and we will see what happens.
I think Mosley's confused about the SB...

Do they hand out the Lombardi Trophy for the preseason champion?
These power rankings are as valid as the college preseason rankings, maybe even less. Opinions, opinions, opinions. That is all this is and at this stage in my life I know that things don’’t ever finish as predicted.

Uh oh just announced....Parcells is going to be available.
He’s leaving Miami……back to the Giants for one more glory run?

+1
The Mara /Tisch families will not be dialing up the Tuna unless things go horribly wrong this year. If they find themselves sitting on the rest of those seats that didn’t go this year, then anything is possible.
If the Jets get him...
I would think the Parcells-Ryan combo could support the NJ catering industry for years to come.

I only really brought this up in jest.
I’m not unhappy with Coughlin.
However it might be interesting to contemplate whether we might have had two or three more Super Bowl wins if Bill had gotten the control ownership wouldn’t give him.

Actually that was Parcells and George Young
Neither supported Bellichick and he flamed out in Cleve. Parcells is a good football man, but he hasn’t gotten a ring outside of NY, what makes you think he’d have done it here?
Cleveland has sucked the life out of many coaches.
I remember watching when Belichick coached the Browns. He never stood a chance with that team.

Given the way this team finished the 2009 season, I see no reason that they should be ranked any higher than #19 in a preseason “power ranking.” Of course, I do not expect them to finish at this ranking, but as of right now I don’t see why they should be given the benefit of the doubt. They need to prove to everyone that they are a contender.
I actually like it being ranked this low.
other teams seem to underestimate us.

In 2007 weren't the Giants the underdogs in every post-season game?
That worked out well.
Causation doesn't imply correlation...
World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.
2007 espn power rankings
Preseason: 17
Week 3: 27
I seem to forget how we ended up that season but I have a feeling it was better than 27th.

In 2009
The Giants’ preseason rank was 3rd so I wouln’t let the so called “experts” opinions effect how you feel about the upcoming season.

Underestimated from Day 1!
You’d never think I was a master of the universe now would you?

LOL LOL LOL
Anything else might upset people.
I mean the redskins before? They have a million more things to prove than we do.

On the espn NFL insider special, picked the Giants as the suprise team to challenge for the divsion. I heard he got fired after he said that…. j/k but clayton did laugh at him a lil bit for saying it.. Even on the Giants preview page, all the “experts” say the gmen will rebound but not clayton. Why does he hate the NYG so much?

It's really strange
Beginning of the preseason I’m pretty sure he was high and mighty on us. Now he’s soured. I don’t know what goes through his mind.

Once they saw we cut
Bear and Bomar they dropped us. Mosely must have picked us before the roster cuts….we are doomed

How...........
Are the Redskins ranked higher than us……..let alone higher than anybody else!
yeah that is the most confusing part
the cowboys and the eagles I can understand but the redskins??
Were better than the LOLskins in every possible way except linebackers.
Not even Peyton Manning could drag that POS roster to the playoffs.

If you need a good laugh...
go over to Cat Scratch Reader. Jerome Bettis said the Panthers are the worst team in the NFL and they are “over-reacting” a little bit.

also said the Giants have no chance of making the playoffs yesterday on Sirius NFL… the guy is a … um … well, he’s gosh-darn dim is what I’m trying to say.

saying that because
he is standing by this prediction from last year that Cowher will be the Giant coach, so he needs the team to stink and fire TC

its already been said
but i think its all the writers impatience with the preseason. Coaches are not going to reveal strategies, all they want is to test rookies and young players. I just dont see how preseason can be in indication of the years results. I mean the only thing that really effects the team from preseason are break out new players and injuries. Wins and losses dont matter, poor play from 1st team, doesnt matter. Most first team players arent even in long enough to develop a rhythm. They get to figure out what doesnt work, yaaay.
I agree wins and losses don't matter
but how you team plays does. That’s just my opinion. That’s how coaches decide who makes the team. Its how GMs make decisions on who they’ll claim off waivers. And I"m sure you feel the same way. Think about it like this, if Ramses had put up Cruz’s numbers…Ed would already have a post up asking if he should be starting. But if Ed put that same article up now, we’d be asking if he lost his mind. Why? because of his preseason performance.
yeah but once again, these are young players being evaluated
even if Barden had a breakout preseason he wouldnt replace smith or nicks in the starting lineup. It might give him more reps on sundays but how players play in the regular season defines the depth chart. This applies to most any position.
This is the best
NFL preview analysis of all. It has all the accuracy you need and should be taken as seriously as ESPN.

My favorite
“Strength: Rex Ryan is a coach who leads by example, an approach that has helped the Jets build one of the fattest offensive lines in the league.”
that was great, i liked
Weakness – With the loss of Brian Westbrook, the Eagles have a major hole at starting knee injury and concussion

Every season, ESPN and other sports shows
always pick the giants to be either bad or not make the playoffs……….even during the years the giants won the superbowl, the never pick the giants to win and it’s always an upset win the giants beat some team……..ESPN and other sports shows don’t even pick the giants to make the playoffs when they do win a superbowl…………i think it is funny how the giants have won more championships and still gets disrespected each year and teams like the jets, saints, chargers and other teams get more respect and they just have one or no championships at all………lol
If pre-season rankings meant anything...
the Eagles would have won a Super Bowl and the Cowboys would have won more than 1 playoff game this millennia
the quote by Clayton
“What is it about this division? The Giants, Redskins, Cowboys and Eagles all have injury issues on the offensive line”, it sems just to be the generic response for the NFC East, not a specific reason for the Giants, bad logic. Not a big surprise coming from ESPN

ESPN is a controversy machine
It generates ratings and $$$$
Unless it’s clear analysis (breaking down tape) take their opinions with a grain of salt.
Peter King has us winning the division
And Tuck getting Defensive MVP:
